Okay guys its been a Longtime since my last post. I am working on something truly awesome...I know you guys are impatient for more news and models they are coming, believe me. I have had to fork out serious cash for material and tools for this project. It is my most ambitious BEAR CLAW Project thus far and will be the centre piece of my Chapter it's cost £45 in material and £60 in specialist tools.

Okay, so my thunderhawk project is on going, i need a break from this so i have gone back to my characters and honour guard. Here is my Master of recruits dual pistols looks brilliant and his pose is dynamic I will add a further sword across his back for WYSIWYG Games.

My chapter master in AA mk7 armour is like this at the moment, i am following XENITE his tutorials are on green stuff are good so i am going to over lay this cloak with a bear pelt and get rid of all that dark angel rubbish.

My honour guard now 10 strong.

Chief Silvertip 1278th Chaptermaster of the Bear Claws



This is the model

Chief Silvertip is the current Chapter Master and is the longest serving Warrior in the Chapter. At 5 Century’s old he has presided over the chapter for 2 centuries. His companion and bodyguard is URSUS a Great Bear of Manitou which accompanies him on the battlefield. The Spear of Scippio remains his badge of Office and his primary close combat weapon. His Armour is a suit of ancient Armour from the days of the first founding and is believed to have been recovered from the ultramarine chapter and touched by The Great Bear Claw himself. This is combined with the Spear of Scippio make him a formidable foe on any battlefield.
He is usually accompanied by an Honour Guard of 4 of his most veteran Warriors usually selected from the Venerable Claws who aspire to be the Chiefs of the 10 great companies.
Silvertip made a name for himself as a Devastator Sergeant during the pivotal engagement with the Dark Eldar during the infamous Atavan Campaign. As a senior astartes of two centuries experience he was second in command of a devastator squad and when his sergeant was killed by a plasma Gun malfunction, he took over the squad and directed fire for 4 days without interruption against Dark Eldar and Pirate vehicles. He personally credited with 25 vehicle kills with a Lascannon in a single day. This heroic defence against their sworn enemy,the Dark Eldar, elevated him into the sternguard and ultimately to the Chapter Honour Guard.
The previous Chapter Master considered his counsel superior to that of his other Senior Astartes and he was promoted above veteran Sergeants directly to the 9th Company. This tension soon dissipated when all Officers agreed he was of great potential and he served a further 2 centuries until the passing of the old Chapter Master on the battlefield of Xeres battling A Dark Apostle and Silvertip as the most senior astartes was declared the new Chapter Master,

My oversize veteran Terminator mountain bear. He was more of an experiment that i have been working on true-scale marines, i salvaged this character off the back of my bits and spares, true scale marines are awesome but bloody difficult to achieve.



Need to finish the other pauldron and then put a bear pelt on, then detail the haft of the hammer and add some detail on his armour. Plus i need to mount a combat shield/ storm shield somewhere.

Chief Dancing Hawk is the master of Recruits (Or Chief of the Braves as I prefer to call him)

BRAVES (SPACE MARINE SCOUTS)

The ancient ritual of Counting coup is the winning of prestige in battle by the initiates or Braves. An initiate or Brave cannot be taken in as a full Warrior/ Astartes until he has completed his training and committed Count Coup under the eyes of the Chief Dancing Hawk the master of recruits.
The most prestigious acts included touching an enemy warrior, with the hand then escaping unharmed. Counting coup could also involve stealing from the enemy. Risk of injury or death was required to count coup. Coups are recorded by notches in the coup stick, or by feathers in the headdress of a warrior who was rewarded with them for an act of bravery. It is widely known that Bear Claw Braves commit near suicidal feats of bravery to be inducted as a full Warriors Astartes.
Chief Dancing Hawk was renowned for his ability to Count Coup on his enemies and famously stalked a Lictor as a Brave and Counted Coup on the Creature. Chief Silvertip was the Master of the Recruits during this period and was impressed by this Young Recruit and awarded him the right to hold 5 White Eagle Feathers to denote his supreme achievement.
Dancing Hawk formed a strong bond with Veteran Sergeant Telion of the Ultramarines. Telion sought out the young Scout who had bested a Lictor in Stalking on the field of battle. Telion was impressed with the young Marines skills and was seconded to the Chapter to train their braves in advanced ballistic techniques. Dancing Hawk was subsequently inducted into a Tactical Squad as full marine. Telion however had seen a second Brave with great Potential, Running Bear.


My Telion equivalent Veteran Sergeant Running Bear. (yup that it is a traditional North American Hatchet Tomahawk not sure of the proper name would welcome any input? ).

RUNNING BEAR – Senior Sergeant 10th Company
His Skills were legendary and he attempted to Count Coup on a Tyranid Carnifex, but the Creature had adapted to his environment. His attempt failed as the Tyranid leapt on him and cleaved his Arm off. Only the intervention of Sergeant Telion with a Sniper Rifle killed the Tyranid saving Running Bear.
Dancing Hawk, impressed at the Tenacity and gall of the Young Marine decided he would be more useful to remain a Scout for many Years. Running Bear has learned much from his Ultramarine tutor and now is considered his equal, after promotion to full marine Running Bear was discovered to be ill suited for Line Infantry work, he pined constantly to move forward under stealth and found Power Armour to be restrictive and noisy. Eventually at the behest of the Chief of the 3rd Company, Running Bear was sent back as a Squad Leader to the 10th Company. His Abilities have continued to grow and he is now the equal of Telion upon the field of battle.
He is easily distinguished on the field of battle by his Sniper rilfe and bionic left Arm.

The brown is Calthan Brown from the Foundation Paints range, it gives a nice colour and matt finish. I went for alot of Earth tones, bone, suede, black etc as 1. they are not used much and 2. they fit my Chapter character.

I actually wrote all the fluff over a week or two at the start of the project and used that to drive my miniature purchases and conversions.

I always welcome your feed back, it keeps me sane when my eyes are hurting late at night. I get an enormous amount of satisfaction out of this hobby, my favourite bit is bringing a Custom Chapter to battle, they are mine and no one else has anything close to them. It's that personal connection that gives my army a life and character of its own. My thunderhawk is coming along but I have had some structural rigidity issues so I am trying to sort out.

I have to put a shout out to XENITE, i have always wanted to sculpt Greenstuff and with his help and his tutorials I did my 1st ever sculpt on the Bear Cloak of my Chapter master. Now I need to practice, practice & practice. I am afraid I am "deploying" for a long period when i get back in 6 months I am going mad on Mini's so this blog will go quiet. If I can get online whilst away I will... Thank you for everyones support and all the SWAPS and Parts you know who you are!!!

6 months is not that bad i still have another 10 where I am, but I can honestly say that I do like the work you have already completed on your minis so far.

EDIT: By the way, we just call it a tomahawk. In addition to bieng used as weapons they were also used as ceremonial items.

Bad Ass. I love SM armies like this, I was going to do one mounted completely on bikes. . .But that fell through.

Hello, everyone. Still away. Desperate to get home and do some more models, I have paint & models with me. More Scout Bikes, more LSS and more snipers yeah for Cheap Points SM Units! Use them cleverly and you can murder all kinds with scouts, its all about tactics (you know that thing that everyone forgets!).

My big projects when I get back are the following.

1. 2 x 10 Man Tactical Units ( bringing me upto 40 Tacs)
2. 2 x 10 Man Assault Units (bringing me upto 20 Assault marines all magnetised so I can have backpacks or Jumpacks)
3. Another 1 x Devastator Unit.
4. Expand my Sternguard Cadre to 20.
5. Expand my Scouts to 50 initiates.
6. Another 2 x Razorbacks.
7. Another Predator.
8. 3 x Rhinos.
9. Venerable Dread
10. Another Land Raider
11. A third Drop Pod.
12. 3 x Vinicators.
13. Thunderfire Cannon.
14. A Squadron of Land Speeders.

15. A Great big Glass Cabinet with LED downlighters to make them look the business.

In all fairness I have most of the models already. I just need to grab more Armour, its nice when you have a good job it allows you to indulge your hobby.

that is one of the coolest chapters ive ever seen the background styling and all are top notch.my only problem is with the last pic posted where he's raising his rifle it could do with repositiong the rifle imho.

Planning your next army before finishing the current one, that usually leads down the slippery slope of more than one army on the go, certainly in my case.

I have 2 a SW and a Salamanders army already, but doing a rotation of minis helps me while I am overseas with nothing better to do that sit in the sun and sand.

Hi guys got an R&R for 24hrs. HARMS 66 you are quite right, if i get distracted i will never finish this. However i am committed to this, what I am doing though is mixing it up.

I want to do Pre-Heresy Marines, given my chapter fluff it will be an Ultramarine derivative. So I was thinking of buying some FW mk5 - Mk6 Marines to bulk out my Sternguard squads and given them a bit more character, I have always loved the studded Pauldrons.

My commitment to this Project keeps getting stronger as i look back at how far i have come and where i want to be . I am imagining in 2 years time where my skills will be and thats when I will really start the ambitious projects.

Man I really like the color scheme of your army. The models are great. One thing cracked me up though...

This is a nice idea for a chapter, did you ever see the ,deathwing spacehulk rule book , it had loads of native american style pictures. Good work, i think their faces look great , but the guy holding the gun looks like his gun should be slightl more central , not sure how you would achieve that though. still great concept

Yeah, i know what you mean but it didn't look natural the other way round. I imagine he is standing on an Outcrop or piece of terrain and is signalling to another brave (like at the end of Dances with Wolves where the Indian on the Mountain is shouting down to Kevin Costner about how much he loves Dance's with wolves) It is supposed to be more a character pose rather than a battle stance type pose. He needs finishing with more filling and filing and another going over with my paints and some fine detailing. most people don't notice but he has a stalker pattern Bolter on his back!

Neil, I was massively influenced by DEATHWING as a young teenager (Still got the the rule booK) with the introduction of Librarians, Captains and Assault Cannons to Space Hulk. It is where I got my inspiration! After 3rd edition DA started getting all monastic like the Black Templars and the Deathwing connection is almost gone now, with only occassional feathers on models. They really missed a trick I think, also the lack of a Asiatic/ Samurai architype Primarch and Chapter.

I wrote the fluff below ages ago and I really like it. I want a huge hero model, that is vaguely "Unhinged" or "Sociopathic" the model I made at the time is a bit rubbish it doesn't really embody the Native American Indian, Black Eagle or Psychotic edge of this character. So here is the character I have found and that I will convert into my Uber Chaplain.


I am thinking of converting the one on the right, adding an Eagle Backpack and then some detailing, changing the staff for a Crozius adding new arms and Pauldrons it will require a fair bit of conversion etc. But I think it will look different and not the standard Marine with a Skull for a helmet carrying a mace.

The Legend of Black Eagle - Chaplain Black Eagle has won great renown as a skilled and a steadfast Warrior who has proved his worth in holding his ground in the face of insurmountable odds on many occasions. Formerly known as the Brave Grey Eagle, his actions as a Brave were desperate and bloody affairs. During the Atavan Campaign against a Dark Eldar incursion, Grey Eagle was shot down in his Thunderhawk along with 3 Squads of Braves. The Thunderhawk impact killed 9 Braves and 4 Squad leaders, taking command of all the remaining braves he hastily organised an ambush and awaited the Dark Eldar Reconnaissance party sent to scout the Wrecked thunderhawk. The 7 Scouts conducted a successful ambush and neutralised 3 Dark Eldar vehicles, fighting a running battle for over 2 weeks the Scouts dwindled to 4 and eventually 2 Grey Eagle and White Face. Their subsequent escape and return to the chapter with 18 Geneseed canisters was lauded as an incredible feat. Grey Eagle in later campaigns ascended to become a Tactical Warrior of considerable skill, eventually becoming a Sergeant. It was at this point that it was noted that Grey Eagle had exceptionally high casualty numbers within his squad, and yet he would always hold his warriors together taking exceptional risks with his own life. His Warriors would not yield and give ground as they believed Grey Eagle was blessed by the All father. Chief Silvertip often used this to his advantage using his squad to reinforce flagging sections of line. Warriors began to refer to Grey Eagle as “Black Eagle” or “the one who walks in deaths shadow”. Naturally Grey Eagle was promoted into the Sternguard, and in a Canny and wise move requested to be renamed to Black Eagle. At the turning of the tide against Hive Fleet Kraken, Black Eagle Held a Single Bastion of the line with his Squad. Black Eagle gave no ground against the Tyranid Hordes, but ultimately this decision cost the chapter dearly as several Thunderhawks and LandSpeeders were destroyed trying to rescue the Squad. Black Eagle insisted that he required no rescue and should have continued to fight. Chief Silvertip became ever more concerned about the tactical sense of using Black Eagle especially with regard to morale and the rapidly reducing numbers in the Sternguard Company. Infact the opposite was true, the Sternguard squads believed Black Eagle was the ultimate embodiment of their art, the holding of the line against insurmountable odds heedless of the risk of death. In a wise and brilliant decision, Chief Silvertip decreed Black Eagle to be indoctrinated into the Chaplaincy. This move safeguarded against the unhealthy veneration of death that was developing in the sternguard squads and yet still allowed Black Eagle to be an Inspiration in the line of battle and have the initiative and autonomy to exercise independent command. It remains a closely guarded secret as Chief Silvertip was concerned that if this decision ever became common knowledge it would be construed as an insult to Black Eagles Honour and the Morale and cohesion of his Chapter would break apart. Black Eagle remains the most dangerous Warrior within the Chapter, his battlefield prowess, ability to inspire and give stirring Sermons puts him well beyond his peers.

Okay much News, lots of projects so here we go with the 1st Major Update for quite a while....

1. I'm back after 6months away, but I have not been idle (but being away from my miniatures was a pain, i took several projects away with me and achieved a little bit of success).

2. I took my wife immediately on Holiday for 2 weeks to my parents place in Greece (yes i am a lucky sod!). I took my paints and a load of mini's as they have a nice Terrace and the pure sunlight and warm conditions made for hours of wonderfully relaxing painting whilst topping up my tan and having the odd Beer!






A nice inspiring View into the Olive Grove, in southern Greece. This Area was ancient Sparta and I was pondering on Hoplites and Alexander the Great it's quite a Country despite it's appalling economy but I digress.

The Main aim was to paint my Characters and Improve the standards of my painting, and to really master the fine detail (as well as repaint some of my early models). Those of you who have been following my Journey have seen my development, well now I've finally got the hang of highlighting so stand by to see my latest models.....

















This is my Avatar 80% complete need to do the fine detail but you can see what I have tried to achieve.

As you can see my Quality of painting, steadiness of my hand, my courage to go for highlighting and also more difficult detail has all improved massively. I did 35 Models over 14 Days and since I have got back I have focused on vehicles but will upload those before and after and pictures when I have finished them.

Further to all this I am continuing my Crusade to Improve Dakka Articles and my Thunderhawk continues apace. I have another 2 weeks leave so watch this space next week as I am to complete alot of models in the next 7 days. Further to all this, i am repainting the detail on alot of my early models so a New ARMY PROFILE will be my summer project in July/ Aug time.
