Cool old stuff man. GW might have gotten technically better since the old days, but I don't know that their character and charm has improved. Definitely had less bling and relied less on "EVERYTHING BIGGER" than they do now

Envious of people who can paint diamonds. Anytime I attempt that I end up with some non-euclidian horror show.

Nice old school marines there.

Rogue Trader Gelt's three bodyguards...

Castor, a Chardosian warrior with a perchant for taking the heads of his enemies, a trait from his feral world that still holds strong.
Kane, a hard bitten mercenary from the Tigran system, known for his use of a Flamer over other weapons.
Brutus, a Renegade Adeptus Astartes, seeking to redeem his soul in service to an agent of the Imperium... or at least that's what he says...

Your work rate makes me look bad!

But loving the work. I've got flamer guy on my to do list, but might be a while before I get to him.

Your blog is my motivation for getting all my RT/2nd ed models finished, so thanks for keeping me going!

Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts

My Blog - mostly 40k, some HeroQuest

Nice work again, P. I've got those guys, and plans for the two non-renegade ones. If I manage to get to it before I die, anyway. Yours certainly look great!

Cheers guys... Sadly lots more to come!

I find the Rogue Trader stuff takes far longer... With fantasy you can often paint 10 or 20 models at a time as units retain a degree of uniformity, but with a lot of the RT stuff, the character and variety means its mainly single figure work.

I suspect the Marine detachment and Imperial Army will be quicker as they have an overall scheme, but the unit of merc will take a while... Thankfully its highly enjoyable seeing these old fellas come to life.

But back to Undead tonight... ten figures left for the unit and I want to get them done so I can move onto the cavalry and the carrion...

Just looked through your whole thread, it is super inspiring, keep up the great work! I have been assembling some old metal dwarves that I am very excited to work on, and your dwarf army is awesome. Just what I am hoping I can pull off (on a way smaller scale).

The first finished unit...

"Of all the units in the Arch-Necromancer Sulieman's army, the armoured skeleton ranks of the unit led by Castor the Undying proved among the most disciplined and useful. These were no ordinary animated undead, if ordinary is a term that can ever really be used to describe such creatures as those of the undead. The skeletons forms in this unit were all former warriors and soldiers, many from the living units within Sulieman's army. Even beyond death they retained the martial discipline and prowess of their living form, and the unit acted in a manner for more 'alive' than the shuffling, automatons of the rest of the armies dead soldiery. This made them even more terrifying to the observer if that was possible. They acted in the manner they had in life - they held their banner aloft, the sargeants dressed the ranks, their weapons clean and belts hung with grisly trophies. They moved and fought with a deadly manner, more akin to experienced and professional soldiers than the animated dead. Often in battle, these armoured bone warriors fought in the centre of the army, side by side with the ever decreasing living units of Sulieman's personal guard, who themselves knew that death would merely see them move a few paces to the side, and joining the ranks of the unit next to them..."

The unit is seen here led by Castor the Undying and with the Half-Orc chaotic Necromancer, Silas Creek, in their ranks.

Music to my eyes. They look superb.

Those marines look great too. Very gnarly. And you've really done the business on the inquisitor, he looks better than 99% of that figure I've seen painted over the years

I have those old model somewhere, must paint em sometime.
