Here's my proof pic, unfashionably late.

I took the pic a week or two ago, and have basecoated the moniature now, but I only just got round to uploading the proof. I was originally going to try a more ambitious paint job on a different miniature, a Malifaux one, but I decided to change as I didn't have time to do what I wanted with it, and I don't think I have the skill anyway. Maybe another month.

This guy is the Necromancer from Zombicide: Black Plague.

Edit - Two points occur to me. Firstly, I should probably have edited the image to cut out all that foreground table! Secondly, there's a bit of an easter egg in the background.

Next WIP: I am experimenting with bold colors... what could possibly go wrong!!! While the orange is mostly a base coat... (only the bottom left of the robe is shaded as a test)... I think it might not be working out as well as in my mind's eye.

Suggestions and feedback welcome!

@keezus

I think it looks really good. What color are you going to do for that other chunk of robe that is as of yet unpainted? The difference between that color and the current base coat might make the orange more pleasing? I've had a few models that have done that to me

@red_ink_cat: I am currently thinking about a pale blue or a pale pink. Not sure. This is all uncharted territory for me.

Hm... I might go with the blue. The pink would likely look rather similar to the orange, and depending on all of the tones you used for her skin, the orange and blue might balance better. Since they are opposite on the color wheel, it should give both of them a calmer appearance and not cause the warmer tones to really stick out on the model.

That said, purple might balance better. That would give you a direct triadic color scheme. It will likely make the colors seem more vibrant, even though they are very solidly pastel (and it looks awesome). They do recommend to keep one color as covering more space with a triadic scheme, so the three do not fight for attention as much.

Hopefully I am kind of helping...

@red_ink_cat: That does help! I've been using the analagous setting on the Adobe color wheel online thingie... changing it to triad gives some different ideas... Will try some stuff and post the results.

A Protoss colony world

Well, I've now finished the first Black Legion Sorcerer for my Cyclopian Cabal, but unfortunately that's gonna have to do it for my entry this month since I'm going on vacation in a couple of days and will be gone for the rest of the month. Still, at least I've gotten something done, right? Here's my final entry pics:

I feel like the model turned out reasonably well. My freehand is still not up to scratch, hence the very simplified Chaos logo on the shoulder pad (never had much luck with the decals on those curved surfaces). I hope you guys like him!

It certainly looks like we've got a pretty magical month for entries, as even the unfinished ones have me excited to see how they turn out! As for next month, I've already got an idea for a theme: Something Strange in the Neighborhood-preferably looking for unusual miniatures of some type. Seems like it would go well with October and Halloween and everything.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Cards on the table, I probably can't finish mine on time...
I got signed off with stress related everything, about ten days ago. Eating and washing is about my skill set right now.
Here's hoping there's an appropriate topic for "arm length dragon" in the future.

I'll be okay. Think I've been gearing up to crash for a while, just glad I caught it myself before it happened.
Rushing that dragon and not feeling it would be criminal.

Hang in there BC. If you can’t make it by the end of the month, keep chipping away at it when you can. Painting is one of my primary forms of stress relief personally.

I know we all work at different paces, but a lot of your entries, while awesome, seem very ambitious for a contest only a month long. Love the work you do though.

In all honesty... Most things when I paint them only take 2-3 days.. I just some days (like now) don't get the enthusiasm. For any painting.
My last entry was about 8-10hrs, but I took 3 weeks to do it because I couldn't face sitting with it. :s
I could do that dragon one day and the base the next... But brain points out all the other things I "should" be doing and I shut down.

That's a neat conversion/sculpt, looking forward to seeing it painted!

Anyone got theme ideas for next month? I was considering just taking the Halloween theme that was one of the most popular last year, but we did do monsters and such quite recently. Perhaps something focusing on the more spooky side of it? What do we reckon?

What about "Special Forces"? Something nice and broad that pretty much anyone would have an entry for, especially seeing as due to the popularity of deathwatch, and the new kill team release, people probably have quite a few new elite troops to paint.

I want to suggest...probably something involving fire or something?...mostly because I want to shoehorn in a good excuse to work on the fancy forgeworld salamanders stuff I just got ...although I think we had some kind of "fire" theme not make it through the pole a couple of times already fairly recently, so I doubt it

I've heard the term "dreadtober" bouncing around a few times lately...not really sure where that started or what it's about, aside from painting a dreadnought-type model in october...but I'd be cool with that, I've got either a FW salamanders contemptor, or a deff dread, or some killa kanz...

otherwise, I can't really think of any decent themes that I have projects for honestly...but the whole "spooky/horror/creepy/halloween" theme works I guess...I mean, halloween's not really a thing for me here in Australia, but hey, it's an excuse for me to take a little break from orks and paint some nurgle goodness ....oh...OH yes...that theme will do me nicely actually....I just remembered about something I've got in the mail at the moment!

"The enemy within” With GSC on deck, it could be a good time to worry about the threat from within. Although technically they aren’t mutants.

“Winter is Coming” Could either be literal, with snow and the like, or more thematic with the reference to GoT, where winter is not just a season, but when the ancient evils awake to invade the civilized world.

Buttery - really sorry to hear about that. I hope you get over your stress-related everything soon and are back fighting fit soon. Stress is a horrible thing, and painting should be a form of stress relief, as Nevelon said. If it's adding to your stress, then it's probably best to just take a bit of a step back. We'll still be here when you're ready to join us again.

Regarding next month, I like the idea of a Halloween theme. You don't have to make it monsters - the theme could be something like "Aaaaaaaargh! Paint something scary." Or it could be horror-based.

hmm...the general "halloween" theme also lends itself to a nigh-limitless array of daft conversions in the name of "halloween costumes"

I agree with the spooky/creepy/scary kind of theme.

Would give me an excuse to finish the black death (as in the plague) grim reaper model I have floating about... Although since he's already half painted, he would not count. Maybe an old WHFB Chaos Knight... or maybe I'll just have to dig around my bin of DnD figures.

As for pretty names for a Halloween-y theme... "Haunter of the Outer Dark" ... um... I need to go consult my Lovecraft anthologies... I'm not very creative at the moment...
