ouch...now a cold...get better soon...is it still wintertime in your area? we only have rainy and windy days here... no snow at all...which is of course quite a blow for the kids...

and...

well now i have mini envy^^

tried to use the revell stuff...for glueing bitz of plasticcard together...didn´t hold together that well...can be pulled off...does the testors glue rather melt of just glue in the sense of superglue sticks togeter and can be snapped off?

the trick is to cover all the joining surfaces, any plastic glue will actually melt the two plastic surfaces together. Use enough glue and then clean off what excess spooges out, or make a bead of it like a weld. It will snap off until it cures properly, but it is workable and tight within a few minutes, so you can move on at a normal pace.

What's special about testors? Is it in fact quicker than other plastic cement?

Like ds said, all plastic glues have to be used in the same way:
Apply neither too little nor too much glue to both parts and let it start softening the surface for a moment before pressing them together.
Some types of plastic card have a finish/recipe that is a little more resilient to the solvent, in which case you should either slightly sand off the surfaces or let the glue work it a little longer before putting it together.
Now give it a couple of minutes to settle and your good to go.

I think that the Citadel is too thin and slow, even the thin glue is too thin. The testors tube glue meets the "stays where I put it" test and the "No cramps in the fingers holding it til it's done" test. Also, when done curing, any missed drops, smears, bits that ooze out or F'ups are, IMO, easier to file/sand off. So, when I put on a rivet, the glue oozes out, I can wait for it to cure before taking a fine file and cleaning up around it. I try not to get too much glue on the parts and fail miserably so anything that makes it easeir to clean up is fine by me.

Yeah what Baiyuan said, or use CLAMPS.
I agree, when GW first released their plastic glue, it kicked ass, except it was too expensive, and the bottles seemed to be only half full. And like all things that GW has ever done well, they then changed the formula for no apparent reason and ruined it, it became thin and just fell apart. Now it is expensive and worthless all in one.

Naa, apparently I've been running a fever all day, my head has been foggy, medicine made me waste most of the day sleeping it off. I'm just sort of spaced out looking at things atm. I woke up earlier, and had such a vivid dream: that I had bought a very small airplane about 6 years ago, and parked it in a barn. When I woke up, it took me awhile to realize that it never really happened, and I really hadn't just forgotten about owning an airplane. WTF?

ohoh... i wouldn´t even want to speculate on that weird and twisted dream to onterpret it´s meaning... as storag... he is the resident psycho doc here...

well...when you do need sleep, then you sleep...no point in going against ones body...

also...when i am feverish...i tend to have either dreams about thick and suddenly thin figures or about falling off things...so i guess it all goes with the illness...^^

I think the dream about buying the airplane, flying it, and parking it in a barn was a dream I had years ago when I was sick, but then forgot about. Then today's dream about it completed some strange circuit in my brain somewhere.

Thanks Jake, the more I look at it, the more I think the same. I'd need to do a cleaner job though, make a few more prototypes first. They are really easy to build.

Dam just got home from work quick conversation with the misses (that was interesting but I love her) First of hope you feel better mate nothing like a stinker of a cold as for the dream might be a bad mix of the medication and sniffing that dam glue lol.

Now I have found the revell glue (blue) to work perfectly fine on plasticard with no real issues may be some holding time or clamping can be needed but on the hold I found it to work quite effectively.

I think the mane issue is administering the right quantity required for the job and in the correct way.

Dreams have no sense to them I find random with no purpose who ever can decipher them is more messed up than the dreams themselves ……...

that made me lol...seems like you are together for a loooong time...^^

well i will certainly experiment some more with the revell glue...all because... it is the one i have at hand atm... so it has to be^^

i didn´t clamp the stuff or sand before and i aplied the glue one side... so this all might be a bunch of mistakes here... next installment will be to overcome these then...

no, you shouldn't need to sand bare plastic, at least not the stuff I sent you. Maybe the translucent stuff (rectangle tube=vickers MG body- hint, hint) a sanding would scuff it to give the glue more purchase, but I never do that. You would think that Revell would sell a glue that actually works on their stuff eh?

but i like experimenting... and the plasticcard doesnt shed tears no matter how badly i treat it...see...instant win^^

from what i have understood of a guy from the hardware store... polystyrene is one thing up front first... poly...you never know what kind of mixture you might have in your paws... so i think i will have to do a second round with just your stuff to erase all doubts... dunno where i got my own batch... i got it before dakka days... so... any bets are off...

Maybe it has oil or some residue from making it, try washing it with tepid water and dish soap?

It has been a longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg time all ready or at least it seams so but no she is a keeper plus she takes me to forge world open day in march for my birthday and buys me stuff and even stands in the cue for 2 hours while I have a look around so she is a gooden really plus she let me have the spare room for my model room all mine.

I have really no complaints on the Revell glue I swear by it for sticking plasticard I think you may need to hold it for a while but thats all, I did have some plasticard once that seemed rather over shiny and was a real pig to stick so I had to sand the surface just to get it to stick but that was the only one I had that problem with.

@ dsteingass Do you get your plasticard really cheap ? it's just you sent some to Viktor I would have thought that would have been costly with shipping and weight costs ? If you don't mind me asking do you know any good suppliers of embossed plasticard its just a bugger to find over here.

I keep wanting to go to the states just to go to WalMart I know it sad but every time you see conversions or scratch builds and you ask where did you get that from it's always WalMart and it was dead cheap and I bought 8 or 10 of them.

You do have some handy stores over there for this kind of hobby we have Asda now owned by WalMart but we get nothing like your stores and the price is no where near the same.

Plain Sheet Plasticard, I get in bulk from www.iplasticsupply.com in California. A far as the embossed kind, no we are stuck gettign that from either Evergreen or Plastruct, and never cheaply. Wal Mart is ok, but it's not really the hobby mecca you might be thinking, for sale signs are the only plasticard to be found there, and really not too cheaply.

Naa, that stuff all fit into an envelope and shipped to him pretty cheaply.

well i guess the carepackage was just a freindly gesture... i wouldn´t want to estimate the postage fee... i sent due to a trade some stuff to a friend over to the US and it was quite expensive...then again i sent some heads to shaso as a friendly gesture too... i guess what goes around comes around...

embossed card must be available somehwre near you... i know i got a sheat of that stuff as a babysitting payment... did babysitting for a friend and she gave it to me when we both went some...wait for it...shopping in a craftshop...they had lots of other stuff there too... i guess it just comes down to better know your neighberhood/city...
