So, do teleport homers need to be modeled? I know that weapons must be modeled, psychic powers don't, and that grenades are currently under debate.

What about non-weapon wargear?

I realize that in friendly games, whatever goes; I'm asking re tournaments etc where people can be sticklers.

Cheers,

S

well a teleport homer can be any size really, can be a size of a dime too a coffee can, all it is , Is a beacon that they can fix on and bean down. OR you can buy a few starter sets and use that massive porter in there??

Not for nothin' but it probably would be a good idea to model a gizmo probe hanging off of the infiltrating vet scout sarge or whatever. I think StarGate is absolutely right in that the thing could be in any pouch or integrated into the uniform, but I have found that giving the opposing player something to visually see helps for good game thingy points (otherwise known as sportsmanship).

Gathering the Informations.

When I toyed with a Marine force, I just used the Teleport Homer included in the Terminator boxed set; modelled it right on the base like the Sergeant had already deployed it and was covering the area. Didn't seem to cause too much trouble thankfully.

I find the problem very simple to solve in many ways

The simplest being to drill a small hole in the backpack/whatever and putting a small guitar wire antenna in it sticking out.

The antennas from the cadian plastic vox casters are cool too.

Since nobody really uses auspex, the auspex device makes a good homer as well.

Generally all wargear is WYSIWYG except for grenades. If you can think of a cool way to model it, do it- as said antennae are the easiest method.

The vet sarge in my Bike unit will be carrying a teleport homer so I plan to model the one from the terminator box onto his bike.

Up your nose with a rubber hose.

For a whopping $0.99 you can get one of these and stick on your base:

Also, who is to say it's not stuffed away in a large pouch or similar? I personally don't care if something isn't exactly WYSIWYG, so long as you tell me what's what (ie: this chainsword is really a power sword or this guy with a power fist actually just has a CCW because it's batteries ran out or whatever) AND you don't "oh yeah, by the way all these guys have jump packs" mid game after moving them as infantry or similar shady crap. In short, I think it's ok if your figs aren't WYSIWYG so long as you don't abuse it.

That said, to avoid any pissy puffy heads freaking out when some minute peice of wargear is left off (like a frag grenade), I have festooned my figures with extra pouches, frag grenades, ccws, holstered pistols, widgets, gadgets, antennae and other such whiz bang doo-dads so I can be as flexible as possible without having to have twenty different figs to rep one Spase Mahruine character.

I always pictured an Auspex-like thing, maybe with some extra bits on it (more wires or something)

The Hammer

If you bought the Battle for Macragge box, it came with four force field pylons for one of the kiddie missions in the small colour pamphlet. One of those on a 25mm base and NOONE can accuse you of failing to represent a teleport homer.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

I alway pictures a teleport homer too be the size of a dime or penny( so you can drop it some place and then have your termies pop in) If you have INfriltrators I can see some scouts lugging around that hunking device and being sleathly about it.

FYI guys: That bit I posted above is the teleport homer that comes with the Terminator set. If your opponents are sticklers, the GW design may be the way to go now that they actually have a bit for it.

BWBits also has the slightly different one (paired with the plasma core for $1.99) that comes with the Battle for Macragge set (rather than proxy with one of the fence pylons):

I though that was a engine core ( some thing like a meltabomb thingy)

I would not be bothered as long as I was told that the guy had a teleport homer, Like Nyarly said, as long as I am told in the beggining as opposed to mid game I am fine. the one on the left lloks ggod for a teleport homer.

If anyone needs any teleport homers that came with the termie boxes, I have 20 of them (bought lots of termies....)

give me a PM if you need any. You can have them for free, just give me a buck for shipping.

I couldn't help it.  I lol'd.

Twice.

It's been a long day for me.

To address the previous comment about modelling psychic powers... technically using the RAW, you can use a standard SM trooper for your librarian if he only has a bolter.  But if you were to suddenly say, "Oh, by the way this is a librarian.  I'm taking my psychic test now to mind blast you." or something, you'd probably not get a second game from me anytime soon.

Most people consider WYSIWYG mandatory as a simple courtesy to your opponents so you really should do as much as you can.  I mean, if you're there to screw him over you probably need a different hobby anyway.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Teleport homers are needed for Terminators, each terminator box constains one, so there shouldnt be a problem unless you are using Chaos termies, or have old termies. The teleport homer marker is intended to be placed on a small base and deployed. So you could just have the marker seperate from the model carrying it and place it down and take it up again as needed.

The answer for chaos teleport homers is simple, make a blank marker cover it with thatever basing material you are using and carve or paint a chaos symbol on it. Though it could as well be an amulet.

The pieces in eluisive 71's post are a plasma core (could be used as a demo charge) and a marker beacon (a bit like a teleport homer for thunderhawks). I would be inclined to use the latter as the power unit for the field pylons. Save those, there are now rules for them and they can be taken as defensive options. They are useful too and worth it for the points, especially against assault armies. Better to use the Macragge pieces than buy forgeworld kits.

Yeah, I've got Chaos termies. I like the BfM ones, I may have to get a few. Then nurgle them up.

I was thinking of getting some of those pylons to use as 'Cameleoline Field Generators' for my IG units, since it would be tedious to model removeable cloaks or somesuch.

I guess it's time to visit BWB before they go out of business!

I have had a little thought about the teleport homers and how they work.

Methinks they could be used like spotting rounds for indirect fire artillery. The character with 'teleport homers' actually just has a satellite uplink in his headset comms. What he does is call down the teleport homer from the strike cruiser, observe where it appears and then adjust the strike to call down the terminators in a safe and useful location.

Just take the plastic one that comes on the Terminator sprue, paint the light on top bright blue, and stick a K-mart logo on it somewhere.
