Bruticus wrote:Certainly sounds like it would, probably depends on what special/heavy weapons the gangs have more than anything.

IIRC he got wounded by plasmagun on he, lasgun, frag grenade, plasmapistol on le, heavy stubber multiple times, flamer, shotgun. Except the high energy plasmagun, all weapons with low strength.

I would probably take BS over nearly any skill on most gangers, and definitely on my heavy! A BS6 heavy is crazy, it's a real game changer, might be worth it to upgrade his gun although the humble heavy stubber is my favourite heavy weapon.

True, especially with a shooty delaque gang (are there others?), but I'd really like some skillz from the special heavy categorie, but my heavies keep on having stat increases instead. Nanus has BS6 and two attacks, but no skills at all. Scloppus has BS5, toughness 4, 2 wounds and the walking fire skill, that allows him to spread sustained fire over 6" instead of 4". BS5 was a game changer/breaker already, I need more powerful opponents.
I agree with you on the heavy stubbers, I've got two of them and they rule. Once gangers get more resilient and my ammo rolls get improved by the right skills and equip, I'll swap one for a heavy bolter or a autocannon. Unless of course I get lucky AND rich and roll up a multilaser or assault cannon.

My last income I got ( x10)+35... So when do we get to see the new gang members?

Soon, I hope, my plan is to use my current juve models for my new juves and grant the more experienced juves/gangers better equipment and new miniatures.

My god, those are the two great heavies. My Goliath heavy stubber used to have bs3, str 4, and nonsense like Body Slam. When he got an OBW as well I deliberately got the bastard killed because he was no better than a fresh heavy despite having about 10 upgrades and was just using up my rating. Mind you I once had a ganger who got maximum initiative and nothing else. I cursed his useless name until one day he tied in combat with a Spyrer and won on initiative, hilarious.

You must use a modified rare trade chart to include those weapons right? I made my own but still don't have any assault cannons in it.

It's not even painted yet. Maybe I take it to a GD some day and after it got gold you can start haggling.

Initiative is not that bad. I love shootouts and there it's golden. Same for grabbing ledges.
The reason why my heavies are so good is the fact that we've got a house rule: When you get a stat increase you don't have to roll for say BS or WS, you can choose which of those two you want. I know it's very powerful, but I just can't stand the foolishness of having a heavy gaining experience in combat firing his heavy machine gun and he comes out as a melee-pro. Like you say, those mechanics make you think about your gangrating and killing that useless fugger, just to be more efficient. Plus you often enough end up with LD/Ini and then it's really not that powerful.^^

You must use a modified rare trade chart to include those weapons right? I made my own but still don't have any assault cannons in it.

I made an tremendous effort in rewriting most of the rules of the game. I didn't touch the core game mechanics too much, except some small things like allowing players to bottle out voluntarily after reaching their bottle value, as a form of tactical retreat. (Should I feel the rules/rule changes are being abused I'll alter them accordingly or punish the player )
Most effort went into rewriting all of the skills, the serious injury chart and the trading post. I've digged through piles of house rules and additional weapons, comparing, adjusting and combining until I had a wide and interesting selection of equipment, that seemed fair, but worthwhile. The hardest part was allocating all the equip to suitable groups and coming up with a rare trade table that makes sense and doesn't let you roll up the most powerful items every game. We're still testing, but so far I'm happy with it.
It works like this: Roll 2D6-> 2= cc weapon, 3= protective gear, 4= grenades, 5= ammunition, 6= gunsights, 7-8= survival gear, 9= body enhancements, 10= miscellaneous, 11= weapon upgrades, 12= ranged weapons.
So survival gear like grapnel, medikit, grav chute, infra goggles etc are the most common type of equipment, rare weapons are the rarest and the rest is evened out.

Oh and by the way, did you see the Notnorm Delaque models? They are a little cruder than the Heresy ones but maybe some potential?

Yeah, I ordered a set of the weapons, they are very cool, especially the las weapons (I think my next ganger will carry one of those). The miniatures on the other hand look interesting, but don't have the right style for my gang. Plus girl delaques may be cool, but I'm trying to weave a very subtle homoerotic wibe into my "latin speaking secret brotherhood", at least for my leader. In my battle report written from the leaders perspective as reports to his employer, I'm always making sure that he comes across paranoid and avid for power, but also a little to fond of some of his boys.

Update:
I took some time today to build the framework for our gaming table. It was a lot of work and it all went very well up to the final step.
The tripple cross forming the support for the 16 modular tiles (12"x12") was finished and I had just built the actual frame for it. But when I put the cross into the frame (the final fething step!) it was much to small!
What do we learn from such crap? Go through your calculations again, before getting to work! Don't trust your numbers.

So the actual mistake I made was this one:
122cm-3x3,5cm=101,5
101,5/4=~25,4cm
So I sawed 12 elements of 25,4cm and used them to connect the three cross beams (each 3,5cm wide), which sums up to 112cm when it actually should have been 122cm. That means even if I add something to make the cross connect with the frame, the supports will be an inch out of place, so that the scenery tiles will not be held in place properly.

First thing tomorrow will be disassembling the whole cross, cutting new connectors and reassembling afterwards. Which means I have done most of the work twice.

I'll try to find some serenity in painting now, so let's hope it goes well, or I'll bash that little banner jerk into the wall.

I do. Painting black leather boots, what could be more soothing than applying a million shades of grey...
No really it's fun. And I have decided to paint him bottom up now. So far I've painted a little here and a little there (which is ok to get the impression of how the colors go together), but when I encountered problems, like I'm not sure about the next step, I switched.
Which is highly demotivating... so bottom up it is.

The boots turned out great, but a little to subtle. Somehow the coat of matt varnish (painted on with brush, very thin layer) took away much of the highlight. I'll have to add another couple of highlights tonight.
I hope after making the boots proper grimy the highlight still show.

Update:
After yesterday's vexing reverse I'm finally done with the framework for my modular gaming table.

Mind you, this just the core, that will hold the modules together. I might add a casing that is more appealing to the eye at a later time, but for now I'm quite undemanding as long as we can play on it.
Like I said before it can hold 16 tiles of basic landscape each 12"x12", which allows for a lot of different setups, even without adding buildings to the mix.

That is exactly how I made my table's support substructure, able to take 1x1 tiles if I wanted to, but then I laid Grass mat on one side of a 4x4 board and made texture paint for concrete on the other side for most standard gaming.

will the different "tiles" be slotted inside these squares? if so that is a truly interesting idea... i bet this could even be adjusted to make if in a way foldable for better storage then... i will keep that in mind for the future...great idea mate!

I'm not sure I get your meaning Vik, but the tiles sit on top of the construction, not inside. Storage was indeed a main concern here. I mean probably got enough space for larger modules, but I'd really rather see my scenery securely stored in a locker, than collecting dust on some shelve.
The other factor is combination and layout. 3x3 modules allow for many combinations, but the center can only be one of your modules, no flexibility. With 4x4 the center consists of different 4 elements.

@Dave: Using one 4X4 board is the most convenient thing to do, but I something else in mind. I want the floor modules to already feature some basic elevations, with ramps, ladders and walls. If everything turns out as imagined, we'll be able to decide whether we want a plateau in the center, higher ground around the table edges or channels/walls to seperate the terrain.
The other advantage of 12x12" is that we can put our zone mortalis terrain on it anytime and do indoor gangfighting.

I personally do not, but one of my buddies got pretty much everything FW ever made, including zone mortalis and I'm sure he'll let me use it, maybe even store it for him.
Yes, it is very cool, but with a grain of salt. It's all slightly warped. I think he checked with FW and they said it's normal. And since there is no chance of straightening a 4cm thick block of resin using the hot water method, you're pretty much stuck with warped walls, uneven floorboards and doors that won't open properly. On the blastdoors they even made a mistake during construction, the teeth at the bottom of the doors are not alligned with the recesses in the ground and I'm not talking a few millimeters here.
Still it's a real beauty and if you put some (more) work into it, it's great.

Do you think anyone would be interested in "Zone Mortalis "compatible" sections?

Sure, but considering how few will buy the ZM, it can't be too many. Why did you ask?

Well, because I have been thinking, if the general population won't be able to afford the ZM, and it is popular with players, then it stands to reason that there is a market for the same style of panel-based terrain/dungeon, I could easily steal the basic dimensions and fashion my own tiles and cast them perhaps?

Of course you could and there is little to no competition... no wait there is http://www.hirstarts.com/molds/moldssci.html for example.
Still could be a market, because I assume yours will be fantastic and most people wouldn't know what to do with them, if you drown in hirst bricks.
But when you drive by in your new Ferrari and spent the fortune you made with your ZM ripoff, just remember where it all started and at least send a set.

I saw you mention this elsewhere - it's a cool idea. When ZM came out I kicked myself because it is the perfect way to start a Necro board - if I was starting again I would use some of it for sure (like Neil101 has). My idea would be to make compatible sections that fit on top of the ZM bits - like gantries that go along the top of the walls for example. I was really looking forward to seeing what extra tiles Forgeworld would put out, but nothing so far, perhaps it is not selling well enough for them to support it. I guess this is the only risk with your plan - it's hard to know how many people have bought it but you have to assume not that many. There is definitely a gap in the market for a ZM alternative though, I'm thinking large sci-fi baseboards (could be laser etched MDF) with wall sections that slot into them. I've seen spaceship corridors and whatnot done by a few other companies but none of them are especially good, though there are a few decent options. Hard to make a full board out of though.

This is a long-term plan of course, and it would have to be cheaper than the FW stuff as well...

I just talked to the guy who's got the ZM. He said he's just using it as an inspiration while building his own system, because ZM is too messed up and he's trying to find a fool to buy it from him. Pity I would have liked free usage of it...

So if quality and price are right, people will buy it. But it's not just a matter of interest in your product, I mean how big can the demand be? It's still a niche market, even though it's not exactly the smallest. If you advertise it to be "the gak" for 40k as well, there should be enough of a market. We specialist gamers are a strange and rare people, there isn't enough of us to make you rich beyond belief.

Dave, RW got a point there. The high prices of the OOP bulkheads and the relatively low effort to make some masters for casting are two massive pros. Not saying I don't want you to build a whole system around it. I mean you could have somebody cast your ingenious self-made vintage necro buildings . Just like the paperboard buildings, wall per wall, plus your own bulkheads. I'd buy a BUNCH!

Dave, RW got a point there. The high prices of the OOP bulkheads and the relatively low effort to make some masters for casting are two massive pros...I'd buy a BUNCH!
I'd 2nd that, I've even bought cheapo copies of Outlanders before just to get the bulkheads coz its been about the same price as them on their own?!
