Hi,

By the end of June, I will put in an order for 250 British pounds of Death Korps.  I should be able to get the rulebook (imperial armour 5) soon but still.  To have a small playable force, what would oyu reccomend I start with.  I was just going to order some cool models I like to begin with but I am opened to suggestions.

Thank you

Wells, hmmm...

You can never go wrong with blast templates. I suggest:

Vanquisher- pulls double duty. Nice large template or good AP shells.
Demolisher- You have to expect the enemy to get close. This is a nice deterent to that.

Remember that in both cases those tanks don't have side sponsons.

Heavy Mortars are a nice way to punish the hoard armies and is a good way to fill up an elite slot. Also VERY resonably priced at 50pts each. I highly suggest 3.

Do you want an AC, or an Infantry list?

Well, I would go with infantry because I just love the models and it will look great as a showcase army, not to say that I will not have some armor, I am pretty sure I will order a Macharius and eventually a Baneblade for them. But I'll wait to see if a plastic version is released first.

Death Corp can't be a AC. They are mainly an infantry force. They are also restricted on what tanks they can get.

That's only if you use the siege list.

IA 5 is a beautiful book ,but you can get more use out of your money if you use the regular guard list. The Siege list only has Infantry Platoons for troops in the FOC. That's most of your money right there. Plus Hardened Fighters and Die-Hards are added into every unit. Yikes! A naked HSO is just shy of 100pts alone.

Yeah but they can stick 12 Heavy Mortars with Infernus Shells on the table for 600+/- points.

With that kind've firepower you don't need other units to win games... just force your opponent's army off the table.

Actually, it's cheaper to use heavy mortars with a regular army. There are two sets of stats in the book for HMs. The DK ones are 5 points more expensive and allow to field 4 per elite choice (12 total). They also can fire independent of each other, but the different shells have a cost. The Infernus shells cost the same as improved comms for each gun.

The regular guard entry have the HM cheaper and there is no extra cost on the different shells. But you only get three per choice (9 total) and they fire together.

840 pts vs 405 pts

The order is done, I should get it this week. I ordered:

Imperial Armour 4
Imperial Armour 5
Command Squad
Advancing Squad
Firing Squad
Cavalry (5 horses)
Heavy Mortars with Crew (3)

I guess that's a good start. I'll post again when I do my second order.
