Just thought you guys might want to know that BL has Dan Abnett writing the 7th book (?) in the HH series. It's called Legion. No news. But I thought I heard he a rumour that he was going to write the 1st and last book in the series. I thought there were going to 9 in total?

PS Flight of the Eisenstein is still the best, after Horus Rising.

It's about the Alpha Legion. It's not the last in the series. It is the 7th...the 5th is Fulgrim, and the 6th is about the Dark Angels.

That's all we know. I agree that Eisenstein was the second best after Horus Rising. The 2nd and 3rd were almost unreadable. Eisenstein was a nice surprise.

I also heard that there is going to be only 9 books in the series.

Can you D.I.G. it?

I think that the legion specific books take place in the same era, but are out of time sequence so they are not part of the 9 Horus Heresy books but rather books set during the HH but focusing on specific legions. Make sense (cause I'm lost)?

Really? Flight of the Eisenstein is a decent read? I just assumed that Swallow, a Star Trek Voyager scriptwriter, would write one of the worst books, like, ever. Should I pick it up?

Flight was pretty good. Then again, I had just finished one of C.S. Goto's "novels"... I'd call toilet paper with crayon literature after reading that abortion.

I think they're will be as many as it takes to tell the story. I predict it will go until Chaos is vanquished at Earth and falls back into the eye of terror

eisenstein was not quite as well written as some of the others, but I think had the most engrossing story of the bunch

FotE was interesting but I thought the end was rather tepid. And the inevitable fight against Plague Marines on the spacecraft was a bit boring.

I did actually like the first half of the book quite a lot and wished that there was perhaps a bit more at the end involving the politics of Terra and some insight into how the Lords of Terra reacted to the news of Horus' rebellion.

It was more tightly scripted than books 2 and 3 and I think that his TV experience shows here.

Excellent. Orkboss sent me a copy but I never got round to reading it because I expected it to be more of the previous crap.

Good to know Abnett is stepping in.

I don't agree that most of the books have been that bad in the series.

I've enjoyed them all, although some more than others.

I do prefer Dan Abnetts books though compared to other BL authors.

I got the first but didn't bother with the others (especially not any of McNiel's - that man is a disgrace, as is Marc Gascoine for, amongst other things, paying him. I think they are lovers). I was pleased for a second to see that FotE was rated well, but then I saw it's by the guy who wrote those disgustingly bad BA books and I vomited a little.

I talked with Graham at Atlanta GD about how many more novels would be in the series and he essentially said that there is no fixed stopping point. There was some general framework of how the first few novels would flow and then it was up to individual authors to propose storylines that were reviewed and given a Go/No-Go decision. As long as the public keeps interested and authors keep coming up with ideas, the series will continue.

I've enjoyed them all, especially Horus Rising and FotE. I haven't read the BA books, but they seem to be holding the HH books to a higher standard.

The Flight of the Eisenstein was very enjoyable after the fiasco of the last two (I mean c'mon, there's dreads running around and they're calling them Ancient this and Ancient that?)

I recommend to anyone. Garro is a great character and yes, while they do fight plague marines when they flee into the warp, the events leading up to and after are very, very good.

Great to hear that Abnett is returning, and to the Alphas no less! It was a very smart decision to have him go first too, so that he could actually set up some characters before the other writers took their HURR! sticks to beat out some action and kill said characters away.

On my part, I've enjoyed all of the books thus far, and actually thought Flight was the weakest. I was happy with Dorn, but otherwise most of the characters were very meh. I think Galaxy was my 'favorite,' but in the sense that I have a strong imagination so got a lot more out of the action sequences than the author put down. Last stand of the loyalists on Istvaan and all that.

I thought Galaxy In Flames was crap.  Horus has this great devious masterplan and then nothing goes right.  But at the end he's just like, "It's ok - that's what I wanted to happen!  Sort of.  Bwahahaha!!"  And the virus bombing part was just daft: "The virus is coming!!!  It's airborne and destroys all living cells on contact!!  Everyone duck and cover!!  Quick, hide under that rock!  Phew, that was close!"

Galaxy In Flames is like a novelization of the Pacific War in which the US fleet manages to escape destruction at Pearl Harbor by sailing out to sea just as the bombs start dropping, then locates and attacks the Japanese fleet, and then manages to sink half of their aircraft carriers before going down in a blaze of glory.  Oh noes!  How will the Japanese be stopped now?!

Damn.
I really enjoyed Horus Rising (I read it on holidays) and I was meaning to pick up the rest. I thought they were all gonna be written by Abnett. They're really bad then?
(I have really high standards, I hate almost all Black Library books except First and Only and possibly Necropolis. Maybe. If I'm feeling generous)

Pish 'dababaddon, Horus ceased being a totally awesome & super-smart guy when he was voodoo'd-up, then he just became a d***. Which is too bad, because I liked the Big H in the first book(s) ...

On the virus, I was kinda amazed that such an Ultimate Weapon would basically always leave survivors who hid in sealed bunkers (aren't most?) with descent heat protection (again, don't most?). What was moronic was that the loyalist marines held out for months without running out of ammo - though they were close the whole time!! - or ever mentioning how or what they ate. Could have been inner-suit rations or something, or that Astartes don't need to eat, but since good ol' Ben Counter doesn't say I'm guessing cannibalism, progenitor and all >

I'm now clearly waiting for the Emperor to reveal that he's been gone because he's making up some nukes to supliment his Ultimate Weapon arsenal.

Sealed bunkers?  No need for that.  Loken and his crew survived by hiding in a the basement.

Maybe the virus was scared of the dark?

(Virus bombs seem silly to me. The method of dispersal would have to be really delicate or you'd destroy the virus, which would mean limited range which would require multiple payloads which would lead to large areas being untouched due to accidents, defense lasers and such. Surely just firebombing the crap out of a planet with ship mounted plasma cannons would work much better?)
