Quick IG question (I’m a new player so forgive me if this sounds incredibly naïve)

what’s best with IG – one PHQ with plenty of squads, or more PHQs for more leadership with fewer squads in each platoon?  I want to go troop heavy (say 7-8 squads altogether) – what are the pro’s / cons of having these in 2 platoons of 4&4 squads, or maybe making 3 or even four platoons with more PHQs to bolster leadership? I’m using my PHQs as dedicated leadership sources anyway, I just wondered – in tactical terms, is it worth the points cost of taking a naked (or almost naked) PHQ to bolster your line, or are you better off spending the points on another shooty squad but having more static lines and less officers?

Apologies for the ignorance, all guidance appreciated.

Well, everybody plays differently, but I almost never take more than two squads per Platoon unless I need to make them fit. the LD8, Iron Discipline, and extra heavy/special weapons make them one of the best squads available to the IG, and there's no reason not to max out on them.

Most people keep the HQ naked w/ a standard, but arm their JO's. I prefer missile/plasma/plasma, this gives good anti-meq shooting, but doesn't have a lascannon so most oppoents don't see it as much of a threat.

I tend to always take 2 platoons. It's rare that I take 3. My usual setup is two 45-man platoons. A core of 90 infantry is hard to break. 822 points, leaving me 1028 points for the fun stuff and my CHQ.

I agree completely, but I do sometimes go with 6-8 squads on 3-4 PHQs in order to have 2 dropping suicide PHQs. The squads that don't drop just get plugged within the non dropping bubbles.

I like 2 platoons with 4 squads. I use the CS for counter assault, and have other counter assault throughout the army as well.
