@Neve Hahaha I surprised myself - hopefully will be doing some MORE squads soon! The blue is a bit flatter and brighter, which has is pros and cons. But you're right, the colour difference is pretty insignificant, so it's a bit of a non-issue.
@Azalle cheers as always my friend.

Hey everyone!
I went out on a mission today to get the materials to build a lightbox, and after some preliminary experimentation i'm pleased with these early results. Tell me what you think! I definitely feel as though I have solved my photography problem in this new flat. Always room for improvement but this feels like a big jump up.

OK, so you went from “awesome” to “awesome”. My Cool-o-meter is pegged. You were already at the top of the chart, I literally can’t perceive any better looking Ultramarines. I’m sure there are improvements there, but frankly my brain can’t process them.

Except the Tau. The new lighting shows all the flaws in your work. Abandon the filthy xenos project.

It might be interesting to take a new lightbox photo and make a composite pic with an old one, so you can do a direct comparison.I did it with my foot captain, showing the difference a lightbox/real camera makes on the same model.

Big improvement!

All I'd suggest now (I might have mentioned it before, sorry for nagging if I did!) is getting a smooth background in there to hide the corner. Even a sheet of grey/black card would do, it just evens out the light and reflections so you're viewing the whole model against the same neutral background.

Light box looks good - but para seems to know his stuff - love seeing your work!

Neve, this seems like a good idea, i'll have to get around to trying that

@Para the background is a curved sheet like you mentioned. The guide I used recommended elevating the miniatures so I propped them on a box, which is what the line is. I'll remove it and experiment a bit!

@IGtR cheers, that he does. I'll be taking it into consideration. I appreciate the feedback!

Just doing some tests for compression of images as it's really horrible. There doesn't seem to be a way for me to reduce it though :(

Aha, yes, I see the box now. Elevating the mini is a good shout certainly, as it lets the light get in underneath it.

@Para I took these photos with it off and agree, I like the plain setup quite a lot. It's annoying though that my phone camera sits higher than eye level of my miniatures, but i'll sort something out to work around that.

With the new edition and advancement of the 40k lore, my alt-universe black templar mindset of having no librarians went out the window, and i've started working on one. I got an overwhelming urge to do up a neat libby so I figured, especially since they're a 40k element that I neglect a lot, that I should get one in. In terms of miniatures i'm not far away from a full company actually, so I should see what I can do to make that a reality

Anyway, here are some WIP shots!

@babouin Thank you! Cheers for tuning in.

@Valkyrie years of practice, careful brush prep and patience

Also, I realised that I never really uploaded a finished image of my sternguard squad that came together over time a while ago (i'm having too much fun with my lightbox and threw in a tac-squad fun shot, I apologise ).

@Dynas thank you! Yes, I shudder to think of the material that occupies the first half of this blog. All of my stuff is still brush painted - i'm not a huge proponent of the airbrush -- not yet at least...

@complex57 thank you very much! Its taken years of fine tuning to get my hand to stay steady

@San76 Very kind! Thanks as always.

Hey everyone! Had a hectic few days at uni recently, but got a good couple hours in and finished off my first librarian! I'm actually quite chuffed with how it came out. Since there was a darker blue already for the librarian I figured I'd go for a brassier bronze-gold as well - both of which colours are contrasted a bit by the original Ultramarine heraldry on his left shoulder. Anyway, keen for you guys' thoughts! I have a few projects on the horizon for what's next but i'm still waiting on a few bits shipments

Looks good. A bit more muted then your normal work, but that’s not a bad thing. The non-ultra tone of the blue might be throwing me off. Or the brass. Sort of like a mirror universe Ultramarine.
