Yeah, apartments are always tight and confined. A house will be nice after so many years of apartment dwelling. And more space for me to work in. I also have new pics of the T-61A5 coming out next!

Been there. Unless your getting something pretty big you will be amazed at how fast a house will fill up.

Got the wife to let me dig into the tank. Time allowing I might get it done this weekend, if not by xmas for sure...so pics next week sometime.

Amazing! how did you get her to allow that? I thought she was going for the whole X-mas thing? Anyway, enjoy the kit I had fun with it.

BTW, the house planned is a old 1915 built one with nearly 4k feet of space.

space will get as easyly used as money gets spent...you get used to live with less but when you get a raise of either you will shortly spent and use it as a whole...no chance of saving up...in my expierience at least...

Interesting how it can happen. My room is a mess, but I will be cleaning it out soon as I am planning the move.
BUT enough talk of moves and space filled.

I have the pics for the T-61A5 I took in a similar vein to the Aku.

Cruising into town.

nice mud effects on his skirt...but may i ask if you have washed the bigger surfaces already? i would think for now not so...and i would recommend adding a bit of wash to the details there too...

LOL! I washed all of it in Devland Mud wash for the general all around dirty effect, but the camera does not show as well as in person.

Thanks, I learned that some dabbing of Graveyard Earth or other "earthy" colors will make it look like that bit that just will not come clean, the road wheels are also dirtied that way as well. My SM vehicles are also as dirtied along with my other finished IG tanks.

we had the discussion...artificial light does some nasty tricks on your models...whenever i want to show off something important i try to to get daylight for my minis. in our living room, the place where i usually do all the stuff and the pics i have a bigger window that leads to our balcony. the light is sometimes pretty good so i get lots of good shadows on my models then and thus can show of some effects i want to protray...

Now to try the gloss varnish for the extra greasy look! Thanks for that input Vik!

Sort of...Id say i put a good 5 hours or so into it over the weekend. I saved time by making some of the moving parts fixed...its just gonna sit on the shelf and look nice, dont need swiveling guns and rolling wheels and such.

Here it is. I decided to go semi realistic on it. Gray paint to go with the land battleship look of the tank. Also went for the clean but weather look...like a battle vet ready for the next campaign.

I didnt use the 3rd track under the center, but I may add it later. Also left the track paddles off of the bottom...thought it looked weird with them on, like it was tip toeing. They would sink into the ground and not be visible anyways.

to be honest it doesn´t look finished to me enough... i saw the exhaust weathering and it does look really good. tehre i´d lkie to know how you did that. the rest of the model doesnt look convincingly used...specially the tracks doesn´t look realistic. there should be more mud and dirt involved and also rust...lots of it. for my taste its rather clean looking...the grey color looks good though but one thing about the tracks bothers me too. why again didn´t you glue the whole tracks on? in the underside there seems to be none?
don´t get me wrong i don´t want to belittle your work, i have yet to do a tank of my own, but i think you love your model all the more if you give it a bit of more time to mature it^^...

I wanted it to look relatively clean. Its got a bit of weathering to the paint. As far as the dirt...Ive never been all that good at doing dirt lol. The tracks do need a bit more weathering though. The exhaust is just a drybrushing.

Its actually got tracks all the way around, the paddles are on top of the track belt. I left the bottom paddles off for one reason...under the weight of the tank they would sink into the ground and you wouldnt see them. With them on it looked too high, like the tank was floating.

Well, apparently I was not feeling up to getting out to the shop today, so no new pics for the oiling as yet. Sorry guys.

Hmmm, looking at the new Aku, I can spot the "weathering" at the plates and all. I know the thing looks like it is floating, but I would recommend a way to fill the gaps I see near the bottom with cut down trad plates where the piece will make it look more like it is sinking in.

I had thought of going that route, but was not wishing to leave the track join exposed.

Ya gotta do the helping tread, tanks that heavy need them!

I have found plenty of footage of old crazy looking oddball tanks for inspiration here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsYodyWCttg&NR=1

Many linked footage to old footage, and others that still work today due to loving care of the old metal beasts.

Oh yeah, definitely rivet heaven that one. Once welding became more popular, along with casting, tanks took on the more modern "smooth" look we are familiar with today.

Also, those old era tanks certainly had plenty of guns to go around!

yep they do look a bit like a shooty hedgehog^^

and i would think the rivets given their amount on the surface and the thickness on it served also another purpose...i could imagine nowadays they might actually work as a kind of passive armore...like deflecting shells?

Rivets on a tank are extremely dangerous. When an armor plate takes a hit it flexes, this has been known to break rivets, sending half of it bouncing around inside the tank like a bullet. Many crew members on early tanks were wounded/killed by ricocheting rivets.

LOL! I had thought of little tanks as proxy sentinels. Someone else made very Russian light tank like minis for such a purpose over at Bootcamp, the Imperial Guard fan-site

As promised, I coated the metal bits with 'ardcoat to get that shiny oil look, and this is what happened. The front forks seem to defy looking shiny
[/img]

Periscope shaft, w/o flash, caught my Germanian Guard friend in the pic.
[/img]

And here, with the flash. I think that this may have caught the shiny effect, but you guys can judge for yourself all.

Weathering is almost done.

Landships, wild concept, it may not have worked back in the day, but look at most 50+ton MBT's these days and they almost qualify. The big problem is transportation, not so in the 41st millenium with cargo lifters big enough to drop dozens of these beasts or a titan even!

BTW, Vik, I was able to zoom in on the pic, and the periscope shaft was even looking ground and pitted! like it has seen many movements unto it's self

I will have to write up a history of the Akuyaku-1 GO, or in my fluff,,,the T-440.

definatly do so, will be fun to read...and be sure to let us see some day some crewmembers of your tanks...i not so much see the models as playthings for 40k but more of a rpg toy so i imagine all the minis needed and will try to add them for my army even if they might not see a game^^

so this is my time to say: merry christmas man and have yourself a peacful holiday...in germany we celebrate on the 24th in the eveniung and my kids will be pretty wound up^^

cheers mate, vik
