Well if you know anything about colors, a dark green and a light pink are contrasting colors. So they will help stand out both colors!

Thanks all.
Yep, green generally works well with purple and pink, although pink is not a color that is easy to put on "soldiers" models. But orks can wear anything and still look cool, you know. ^^
I hope tentacle pink will look good when dipped, I've never tried this already.

That's nice, I love this comment. But believe me, I sometimes paint crap too.

Nobody could !
It's forbidden to don't like my miniatures, anyway.

Casey's Law wrote:Beautiful! What varnish do you use?

I use spray matt varnish for acrylics by pebeo. It's made for canvas painting normally, but it works perfectly on little plastic soldiers.
What I love with this varnish is that it is really really matt.

It's this one :

looking good! since its forbidden to dislike them i guess i will just have to like them

about the varnish, i think matte painters varnish is one of the best canned solutions. but since i got my airbrush i like vallejo's matte varnish a lot! with an airbrush that goes on as smooth as a babies butt

You're welcome Casey's soul !
And thanks Djinsk. I don't have an airbrush, but I heard that vallejo's matte varnish is pretty good. I should try this someday.

I need a nob for an upcoming game next week-end, so I started painted an old miniature from 2nd Edition. It was a special character that will be a perfect nob with power claw.
Of course it's only a WIP photo :

And also, I had one question in a painting topic about dipping. I copy the answer here since it might interest someone :

Grundz wrote:Minus: what are you using? my minwax walnut gives MUCH stronger effect than whatever you are using, I'm actually pretty shocked at the results you are getting

I use a wood stain I bought in a supermarket. It's the shop's brand "Carrefour" and the color is "Chêne rustique" (rustic oak in English). I don't know if this will help non french people though. But it's a simple stain that should be available in any country, under a name or another. It's a dark color, the product looks almost black but is a strong brown.
I dip the orks entirely in the pot, and then use a salad spinner to remove all the excess stain. So the dip remains mainly in the recess and only leaves a thin layer on the rest of the mini.

Some pictures of the process :
- Base coats :

- Dip the models :

- They look like that after their "bath" ^^ :

Doesn't look good at this stage, hu !

- Use the power of the spinner :

The models inside were not dipped, I used them to show how I lay my minis into the spinner.

After that you let dry for at least 48 hours, you finish the base and put some mat varnish. And you're done.

And a pix of the stain I use :

Your dipping technique is very interesting, i haven't heard that before. Hopefully i'll get the chance to try it out one day.

Not sure why you're getting no responses to your posts Minus... there's some nice work here. The hydra is excellent and I really like the effect you've gotten on the SAG. Specifically the rusty metal look on the gun and the spheres. Keep it up! What technique are you using to do the rust?

I like the stormboys and the retro counts-as-pk-nob a lot, but that hydra really beats them to the "best mini on this page" prize. It looks stunning, kudos!

Hi Gisplitta. I have to admit that I don't have as much time as I would like to spend on Dakka these days. Since I don't comment much on other people's topics, I unterstand why only few comment here. But those who do are wonderfull, btw. ^_^
I hope to have more time to discuss in other painters threads soon.

Gitsplitta wrote: What technique are you using to do the rust?

I use a very simple and fast technic for this. I have taken pix of the process during painting my SAG, I'll make a tutorial to explain it. Might interest someone.

Thanks Merlin ! I know how much you love orkses, so I understand that you like my war hydra really really much.

My SAG is completed. I already love it.

Ah yes, I have committed an error that *I* rail against often... asking for something that's already in the blog if I'd read more carefully. Mea culpa!

Just love the work you did on those old meganobs. I have a group of them myself that I really love & am just experimenting with on the table. Great old minis those! Your SAG has so much character... well done!

Thank you both !

@ Gitsplitta : no no, the tutorial itself was not posted in this thread yet. I'll post it only now !

How to achieve a pretty quick and - I hope so - convincing rust ? Let me explain how I proceed :

I always start painting on black undercoat, question of habits. To get a good effect I'll need several shades of brown, an orange of course, and a "silver" color. The colors I use are scorched brown, bestial brown, snakebite leather, blazing orange and boltgun metal.
These colors are not restrictive, you could replace the bestial brown wich is an orange brown with calthan brown for instance, or snakebite with another ocre color like Tausept ocre. You see ?

- I start with painting everything but the recesses in scorched brown.
- I then take an old brush with a f**ked up point to tap on the surfaces I want to rust with diluted bestial brown. This creates random spots of lighter brown all over the scorched brown.
- I proceed the same way with snakebite leather, but I restrain the areas to let the previous colors appear.
- Same with orange.

At this point, you should have a satisfying rust. Now, all we have to do is to reveal the metal under the rust. For this I use boltgun metal that I apply on all area wich I think would be subject to friction on a real object, like angles and edges, and also on random places as soon as it looks good.
You're done. The multiplication of the layers gives a textured effect. But each step is really fast.

Step by Step :

Exemples of the final result :
Depending on how much you insist on each color, you can get a more orange or a more dark rust. You can also use washes (devlan mud, wood stain) if you want.

Hope this helps ! If you have any question let me know !

Hello Dakka !

I'm preparing my armies for some 6th Ed. tests, we've planned 1000pts games with some friends. It is a good opportunity for me to paint models I've not painted yet.

This is still in WIP, but I'm currently painting my Land Speeder Typhoon :

The speeder itself is almost done, next big step is intensive highlights on all edges (I hate that step, takes soooo long ^^ ). Afterwards I'll have to paint the pilot and gunner.
