What a weekend, I had a blast as always at WargamesCon. I got to play a ton of really challenging games against great opponents, I couldn't have thought of a better way to send out 5th edition. Congratulations to Alan for edging me out for best overall, He played flawlessly all weekend and still had 5 more points than me when the smoke cleared even though I managed to win our game 25-5. No one else could get a single point on him!? Really!? Comon guys theres only 180 orks on the table!!

The event was really well run as always, thank you to the tournament organizers and the judging staff.

BRING ON 6th EDITION!

CKO wrote:I came in 5th, 3 of the top 5 were necron players. (Take that Grey Knights)

Did Ben know that you cant use Anrykar special rule if you are embarked in a Command Barge? It doesnt really matter as he and Allan both dominated the field.

Yeah don't worry I know. Anrakyr either walked around with tomb spyders or cruised in a nightscythe. On the weekend he claimed a manticore, a storm raven, and a raider with his tachyon arrow.

Oh and no I was not using anything like "wraithwing", I'm not a big fan of one dimensional armies. Instead I was rocking...NIGHTSCYTHES! Which honestly won me all my hardest games. Favorite night scythe moment was against Alan. For the mission we each had to kill the other guys HQ. I screwed up and left my lord in charge range of the nob bikers, and they drove over and killed him. He falls over breifly, makes his reanimation roll, moves 6, hops in a nightscythe, and boom I'm garunteed to draw that objective because even if the scythe goes down he will just walk on and hide in a corner! (i was going second)

You can check out blood of kittens for my exact list.

I watched half of your last game. It is good that you have such a good command of the rules, because your opponent didn't. I hope that it was because he was playing a new army for the American ETC team, but he had a very poor grasp of the rules (I am bad with rules myself, but that was awful).

I have to reiterate the same as Blackmoor here, your rules knowledge was very solid. But sadly Joe's was very very poor and was making it painful to watch. Along with the over measuring several times early with ravens..razors..DC..Just a rough game to watch, I am personally extremely surprised he made it to table 1 for round 7. ( Not meant to be bashing Joe or his army)
Just simply from viewing that game, I cannot imagine how he ended there. Otherwise, well played game Ben, I also find your necron list quite effective and out of the ordinary, well done.

One query though, how did your game with Alan go? I am sure the NS's ability to pump out wounds truly helped alot along with an ample supply of scarabs were the most important things in your list. Any change your barge was able to snipe out the nobz? and did the lightning fields ever come into effect?

You can actually watch all the table 1 games on the heroic 28's ustream page. My game with Alan was round 6:

Game Six objectives were:

Pick an opponent HQ and kill it while keeping yours alive
5 Objectives
Capture and Control: bottom left and top right objective (from camera view) counted as the capture and control objective.

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-heroic-28s-40k-live

It was an extremely close, awesome game. And yes, lightning fields were AWESOME!! Won me a key combat, and were so scary alan never wanted to charge that unit with his nobs. The tesla destructors were, as always, amazing weapons, and night scythes were just excellent units. In fact, the reserve rule allowed me to tie the kill the HQ mission.

Wargamescon was a blast, really fun. Had a great time, saw friends and played nothing but fun, very challenging games. The mighty, mighty footdar finished up 5th strong, going 4-0-1. I dropped in the finals when I drew the same ig player two games in a row. I just didn't want to play ig 4 times in the same event. My opponent was a great guy, I just didn't want to do it! Haha, jwolf was nice enough to step in and play ringer for me and I was able to watch the last games. Awesome to see all the "bad" armies doing so well! Well done to Alan and Ben, and just goes to show: players win tournaments, not lists.

Thanks to the bols crew for putting on the event.

I believe they were the only two to get a tie in their game and based on battle points they were paired against each other.

That still is pretty lame. You can bump them to the next closest people based on any other factor. Playing the same person twice at an event like that (in a row!) is just uncool.

Sorry Petra but it’s the top 16 tables. They are paired pure swiss and by that element they would be forced to play each other mainly due to how they scored. The difference was quite far between others and if we did that would start changing and skewing systems if you take Swiss to its pure element. We will try to switch them around if the point difference isn't far but sometimes you can't

Now for the lower bracket which is run like a traditional GT we switched people all the time in the lower bracket. The top though is excluded because at its essence it’s a competitive event.

I wasn't mad about it at all, I wasn't in the hunt to win as my army doesn't smash people. I was undefeated, but all my victories were small. Alan and his Orks got max points in almost every battle! Haha, by game 5 my 100 battle points didn't even come close to his 150! hahah, and I was hung over as hell so I opted to just watch.

Would you mind posting the overall scores for the tourney? I've not had much luck contacting via the email address.

@Derkwann: (heheh) Would any other competitive event do the same? Seems kind of strange.

Actually I walked up and offered to switch Reecius and his opponent, and would have done it right then (I have no respect for the rules, privilege of being the boss), but someone wanted to take a nap to prepare for an evening of introducing the young ladies to his own magnificence. Had a great game with Reecius' opponent Carl, and maintained my unbeaten tournament play streak with Tau.

.
I appreciated that on the second day they split the lower end of the field off for a 2nd day RT style event. Getting a clean slate and starting over was nice, by doing that though the top bracket simply must accept that some wonky things like this may occur. No one had a problem with it so I don't see why you're making a big deal out of it. Ultimately other competitive events, to the best of my knowledge, don't give the lower end of the field a chance to start over with a clean slate day 2 and the chance for more prizes. So you're trying to compare apples to oranges which is hardly fair.

While the latter half of that quote is not entirely true, it's a fair statement in general to say once an event's format is set, you need to follow it to ensure fairness and everything else. The competitors weren't upset over it (Reece had a headache / etc., and didn't want to play guard again ... nothing about his opponent), and the format / points called for it. One of those situations here where the nonparticipants care more than those who understood the format and were fine w/ it being followed.

Oh, I completely cop to me being more concerned about it than the actual participants. It is simply a matter of me not wanting to play the same person twice.

I'll take it as a 'Yes, other events would do this as well.' though and let it go.

Woah, ease up on the troll button. I had an honest question about the way playing a player twice worked and then made a joke because you horribly misspelled my name. There's no beef here.

I ike the fact they split the tournament, I miss the championship round by 15 points, only one lost to a GK player. Played in the RTT and took Best General, even though I had more points then the Overall Champ, (yeap tie beaker sucks.....BP+painting) I still had a great time, but I was hoping take revenge in my only lost, did not get to play against him. Once again great tournament, see ya next year and some of ya'll at the ATC

Sounds like a legitimate question to me. At any GT I go to, I have the expectation that I will not play the same opponent twice. I don't think he was blasting you for doing it, but that it intrigued him.
It also is a possibility for next year, will there be any changes to prevent this from happening?
