I do sometimes, but then... meh. Darkrai and Deoxys ftw!

I used to pair a Tyranitar with Earthquake with a Flygon (whose ability was Levitate).

Carnage would ensue.

Time for me to make a non-Pokémon-related post (GASP)

I've played a 3DS XL. Bizarrely, the resolution of the screens seems better, more detailed. Maybe this was their plan all along. There was a demo one at the local(ish) Gamestation, and I took a look. It's smoother than the current one, more in line with today's smartphones. I like the blocky charms of my Aqua Blue 3DS, but it looks like a slick piece of kit.

Fun Quiz: What does DS stand for?

Spoiler:
Actually, it's not Dual Screen. It's Developer's System, relating to the fact that the handheld was intended to be easy to develop software for.

Well back to Pokemon I guess. Should probably get its own thread at this rate.

Started up white then looked at the team I had come up with somehow... Anyway I have a Gardevoir and I was wondering if psychic or psyshock was a better choice. It also has energy ball, wish and calm mind.

Either, there's very little difference, to be honest

Hmm. Shock seems to do less damage at times, but I guess with energy ball I could keep it to cover both physical and special. Now back to trying to figure out how to make petal dance Lilligant work better...

That's why I'm building it that way in the first place. Move sets are about as close as I get to competitive.

So far have petal dance, quiver dance, sleep powder and dream eater. The last two are more or less the main problem. Her move set is kind of limited so it needs something not grass to fit in there at least, but then it's probably going to have to be hidden power (which for this one was tested to be bug if I remember correctly). Sort of have that missing something feeling about it. More or less my first grass since back in g/s/c I think. Hated all the starters so traded it out for the Petilil and went with that as the main so far.

I might swap Quiver Dance for Teeter Dance.

That's likely the best moveset, you've got some grassy damage, the ability to put people to sleep and confuse them, and drain health. Coverage isn't great, and it's screwed against Houndoom. But you can Teeter dance dance to confuse it, then switch out.

Teeter Dance has been working out somewhat. Put them to sleep then on the expected last turn I use it so they wake up confused about it all.

Though QD had a nice boost to it I guess.

As for the rest of my team. I always seem to be firmly in UU/RU.
Took a bit to get one together that I liked, but I think I've more or less got it now. I still don't worry too much about IVs and EVs or even natures that much. But, I do put a little effort into it still. I just more or less go with ones I like and avoiding Blastoise for the first time since R/B/Y. Need a change I guess. Not all of them even have set items yet.

Dragonair - Evolite, Brave - Shed Skin - Dragon Dance, Outrage, Rest, Waterfall
Milotic - Leftovers, Modest - Marvel Scale - Scald, Ice Beam, Recover, Dragon Tail
Lilligant - Serious - Own Tempo - Petal Dance, Teeter Dance, Sleep Powder, Dream Eater
Skarmory - Hasty - Sturdy - Steel Wing, Roost, Fly, Spikes
Gardevoir - Sassy - Synchronize - Psyshock, Wish, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast
Chandelure - Calm - Flame Body - Shadow Ball, Energy Ball, Flamethrower, Curse

Some of them like the Skarmory are a little confused as well. The spikes seem to work but I am unsure of Fly, may switch it out for Aerial Ace or something. I'm also unsure of the wish on the Gardevoir. As for the Flamethrower, I've just always liked it more than Fire Blast due to the accuracy and the fact that it seems to always miss when I use it.

My teams were all optimized for double battles, I was very annoyed when I realized that you cannot take duplicate Pokémon in online battles...

Aggron; Rock Head, Quick Claw, Head Smash, Dragon Claw, Avalanche, I think Grass Knot
Vaporeon: Water Absorb, Rocky Helmet, Acid Armour, Baton Pass, Double Team, Aqua Ring
Jolteon: Volt Absorb, Zap Plate, Discharge, Pin Missile, Double Kick, Double Team
Jolteon: Volt Absorb, Insect Plate, Discharge, Pin Missile, Toxic, Double Team
Ludicolo: Rain Dish, Shell Bell, Leech Seed, Giga Drain, Ice Beam, Double Team
Ludicolo: Rain Dish, Leftovers, Leech Seed, Rain Dance, Water Pulse, Protect

As a team, it doesn't work too well, but it gets the job done most of the time...

Hadn't really thought of doubles. I guess I'd just swap out some things or something.

Have a few supports in reserve like Blissey, Wobuffet and Wish Vaporeon. Probably just use Blissey and add Heal Pulse or something. Not sure what to swap out for it though, but it would make a nice wall for either team. Maybe Skamory since it seems to be my main wall so far and out of the whole team seems the least put together.

For Skarm, I would do Brave bird over Steel Wing, Whirlwind over Fly, and change the Nature to Impish.

Gardevoir, I would do Psyshock, Signal Beam, Focus Blast and Trick. and give her a Choice Scarf and trace.

With Chandelure, I would go with flash fire, so you cold switch him into fire attacks. Substitute Fire Blast, Shadow Ball and Energy Ball is what I run on my Chandelure. Because they will be switch to their chandelure counter when he comes in, might as well get a sub up so they can't OHKO it.

Any other good alternative fliers? Took a while to come to Skarmory seeing as there didn't appear to be much variety with them. They also felt mandatory due to fly helping with transport, but when it comes to battle I guess it wouldn't hurt to just leave them in the box all together and go with something else?

I've been somewhat tempted to run an ice type for a while, but every time I've come to try to place it in a team they've just been shadowed by whatever water type I pick; which usually comes first. So far I've got Froslass and Glaceon in mind. The other thing stopping me is how common fire and fighting are to me, considering I battle my brother the most and those are the types he likes most. Not to mention sadly the role an ice type can fit in seems to be filled by just putting an Ice Beam or two in the team.

Close Combat?

Choice Band.

Brave Bird, Close Combat, Double Edge and U-turn with a choice band is pretty sick.

Now if everything absolutely, positively, must fething die(and you have good prediction skills). You could do Choice Band Haxorus with Mold Breaker.

Outrage Earthquake, Brick break, and Dual Chop coming off an absurd 648 attack? damn near OHKOs any Wall in OU. The only thing that really messes him up is his trollishly low Base Speed of 97 and he's got a bit of a glass jaw. Skarm is his only real counter. Because Skarm can come in on Outrage, live and then heal it off with roost.

IMO, All HM moves suck now. Before Scald existed, Surf was pretty sweet, but Dat 30% burn chance.....

if you need something for Flying around, I would catch a Woobat and teach it fly.

I guess Surf still has somewhat of a place, like in 4's doubles team up there but of course fitting in with the no duplicates restriction. So it hits and heals at the same time. But the amount of times I've seen Scald's burn proc when they have the tiniest sliver of health left, only for the burn damage to take it away. Not to mention my Milotic seems to enjoy their reduced attack.

Strength is useful at times, simply because it's a powerful normal-type move with 100% accuracy

Also, does anyone have a Squirtle with it's hidden ability? I could really do with one of the buggers.

Not really. Normal attacks.....Normally sucks on any pokemon that doesn't get STAB from them. And then only if their movepool sucks so much that you don't have good coverage.

Return is better than Strength, because it has a Attack power of 102 with max friendship.

The only time I can think of another Normal move that would be worth using, it would be Giga Impact on Slaking(he's not doing anything next turn anyways, might as well make a slaking sized hole in the enemy team.) or Tribeam on Porygon. Maybe Double Edge on Staraptor.

True, but exceptional for coverage. With only two resisting types and one type immune, Normal will put a dent in any of the other 14 types- and moves like Strength, with their high accuracy and decent power are always a good choice AFAIK.

Or Bodyslam on Snorlax. But then again, Snorlax. But then again, 4th and 5th gen weren't too kind to the big lug.

As he said, Return is objectively better than Strength, and even then, Normal's typing is not impressive at all. There are many attack types out there that are resisted by 3 or less defensive types, while also having very powerful strengths.
Unless the normal attack gives you a special ability or STAB on an already powerful move (Strength is not a powerful move), you're almost always better off taking Ice, Fighting, or Earth in almost every circumstance.
