Daft question, but the models are pretty devoid of Legion markings so you could paint them as two entirely seperate Legions from the WB and UM and still play the actual game?

Yes, yes they are. Only legion markings in the box are the decals.

My box is said to be delivered today ...hopefully they drop it off at a neighbor while I am at work ...

Are the tactical cards legion specific or Loyal vs Traitor this allowing other legions to be represented by the original box contents?

No a biggie but if you painted the minis as Ravens/Wolves/ANOther and had Ultramarine cards I can see that grating some people.

Both Legions have their own decks of themed command cards.

From the gameplay video, there were definitely two different styles on show (the Ultras seems to have cards revolving around command and morale, while the WB were based on forbidden tech or warp trickery to avoid damage or do extra damage), but I saw nothing absolutely specific. The Chaos cards seem like they'd work for any Legion actively worshipping Chaos, while the Loyalist cards seem to work as a nice alternative to that without being specific. Things like planting a standard (morale boost), vox communication (extra Action Point) and such could really apply to anyone.

Looks like firgeworld will be updating their heresy weapons to have the right hand attached to make them compatible

To be fair to GW and the board game designers, the whacky boards are pretty neat, and with four sets, I can cover most of a regular game table!

*Sigh*, I gave in and ordered a copy myself. It's not like I need more marines, but the actual gameplay looks fun, and I want the dreadnought.

Wish they could have found room on the sprues for a nuncio-vox head and backpack.

FLGS didn't get in the Skitarii maniple that I wanted, so I had to fight of the urge to get a third Calth box instead. I'll hold off until I paint up my Ultramarines first. Will need 3 more packs of UM upgrade sprues though.

Is GW actively trying to grow the community?

I didn't see anything obvious when I passed mine today,

wonder if it's limited to some stores only as a test of how well it might work if rolled out (of it it's an option available to managers but taken off their bottom line so not all are going to do it)?

That looks like a pretty good idea.

They did something similar in the UK in the past, about six ish years ago back when I still worked for them.

So can I retroactively demand £30 from GW from about 5 years ago when I got several friends to buy AOBR... And somewhat ironically ended up with buying/trading for the Space Marine half from 2 out of 3 of them!

Can anyone with the set tell me what the largest force the WB require for any given mission in the book? I am looking to paint my set as one force when I get it, but I'm considering picking up a small opposition force for the board game itself, what would I need for that to cover the WB side?

I wonder if James Hewitt is having any influence in this recent attempt to grow/engage/pander to the community?

There is an extra mission in white dwarf 94 which requires the above plus 'reinforcements from a second box.

I don't know how involved he is with the rules side of things, but there are definitely elements of Deadzone on how this game is designed. The hex-based movement, the Action Points (not DZ-specific, of course, but they are there), rolling successes vs successes and such definitely called it to mind, to me at least. The game itself does look pretty fun, actually.

Well, I have a CSM Lord, Chaplain and Helbrute with nothing to do (and Word Bearers, no less), so all I need is a couple of CSM squads... Coolio, might have to do that at some point.

Can't wait for my local GW to open up today!
