Well if he's only seen two episodes, I would hazard a guess it's the first two episodes, which are arguably the weakest pair of episodes to get you hooked on the show as they're just trying to introduce the mane characters and their base personalities. Give it a couple more for the fun to really start.

First off... Yes, I've only seen the first two episodes, as its generally better to start in the beginning with most things. Second, Chowder said the same thing over Skype last night as I was watching them... The first two episodes are the weakest (which scares me because they were decent episodes, and I fear for my sanity as I watch more).

They follow a different structure than the others. Instead of being self contained episodes the first two are a series. Personally I liked the first two, they're sort of what got me to watch the rest of them.

Oh indeed. I'm in no way saying the first two episodes are at all Bad. They're just not as good as the "normal" episodes.
And I take no credit for the pun. The primary characters are standardly referred to as the Mane 6.

There is surprisingly almost no ponies for Hordes, only Warmachine. I say almost, but I can't actually recall seeing Any off hand, though I'm sure it has to have been done Somewhere.
