I can see the white dwarf highlights for the ard boys tourney now. And on this table mikky mcdougals unprimered held together with a rubberband land raider is contesting the quarter against what apears to be 5 3 color genestealers, 2 primered, and one unprimered missing its right arm set. The unpainted models I am ok with, but some of the models werent even put together! Next ard boyz tourney I am entering my 2,500 point guard infantry army. They sell a bucket of plastic army men 100 for 5 bucks. Too bad there taller than the average terminator, guess I wont be able to get many cover saves.

My only issue with Ard Boyz is that there is no painting requirement for the tournament. I am not saying that painting should be scored, but rather that all armies that make it to the 3rd tournament must be painted to acceptable standards (3 color scheme, no unprimed or unassembled models), or they will be ineligible to win 1st 2nd or 3rd.

Wait wasent the whole point of the ard boys tourney so that people who cant paint well had a tournament where they could compete for a real chance at winning at the end of the day, instead of cheating and paying someone 1000 dollars to paint there army and claiming they did it themselves? Although I agree with unasembeled models not being allowed. That is just stupid.

I'm really secretly super successful in unverifiable ways. Frequently I win entire GW tournaments (and sometimes the tournaments of other, nearby, unrelated sports by accident) under other people's names and hack the internet to show images of other armies rather than my own. Sadly, you've never heard of me because a vast conspiracy of the jealous and inept robs me of my soft scores. I never complain about this because I'm too mature and humble.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Nice models, I always look forward to the GeeDub coverage for the nice pics of cool stuff

Props to James Woodcock's bright Nids (those are ripper swarms!) and Matt McClanahan's superb Impy Fists. Love the consistency of helmets, and helmeted scouts are quite cool.

It only takes playing one tool to wreck your sports score.

Brad took Eldrad, Y'riel. 2x5 Rangers, 3x5 Harlies, and 3 Falcons.

So some might have graded him on pure sportsmanship, and because he is a nice guy, gave him good marks. Others might had read the sportsmanship sheet and thought that the game was not much fun to play and scored him accordingly.

3 fav opponent votes can also be representative of the relative sportsmanship of those players' other opponents.

Four 8s plus a single 2 would be 34. If Blackmoor says he's a nice guy, I'm sure he is, but the score is too low to write off as one guy chipmunking him.

I am not saying that painting should be scored, but rather there should be a requirement that you come to the tournament with fully assembled WYSISYG models, that have some paint on them (no unprimed parts).

The only score that should matter is battle, but there should be no excuse to comming to a tournament with unprimed 1/2 assembled models.

If GW says you don't have to paint for the 'Ard Boyz, then why would you have to paint for the 'Ard Boyz?

Publicity. Aside from those of us in the know about the sorts of prizes involved, do you think seeing a bunch of unpainted models in the coverage (or possibly even WD) will entice others to go?

But yeah, GW didn't care about that so we shouldn't either. Less competition right? :-P

I think they got plenty of publicity. Just looking at the amount of threads here and around the internet, and at the local shops, I'd say they got a pretty big turnout nationwide, with no coverage and unpainted models.

Seriously, the 'Ard Boyz is the all battle points tourney. Worrying about anything else makes it not 'Ard Boyz.

Local shops vary and is anecdotal evidence at best. The internet makes unpopular things seem popular - you'd think Ron Paul and Obama are the leading U.S. presidential candidates if you believed the internet.

Certainly cant blame those who took unpainted armies to 'Ardboyz, those were the rules and jumping up to 2500 pts is a lot of extra painting. Still If they do it again next year ( and I really hope they do since I'm getting back into the hobby partly because of them ) I would hope that they institute a minimum painting requirment, no scores, just make an effort. If your painting is aweful, so be it, but at least try.

A big part of the fun for me of playing at a tourney is to get away from painting the great unwashed hoards of flat white and solid black armies that rule the tables at your average FLGS. Everyone has to practice and friendly games almost allways involve a half finished project or two, but if Im paying for a tourney I at least want to play against painted armies.

That said, I would not hesitate to sighn up for the next 'Ard Boyz even if there is no painting requirement. The attraction of a battle points only tourney is just to great.

And the internet makes popular things seem unpopular. There is going to be a group of players that prefers to seeing painted minis. There are going to be a group that does not care. I along with the rest of our group (6+) had a lot of fun with the 'ard Boyz. It was great not having to worry about whether or not all of our stuff is painted. Finally a system where we do what we love the most - playing the game. Do we want this for all events. No. That said though - having one tournament series with this philosophy is great.
