At the Rosdale Air Traffic on saturday December 2nd. The battle consisted of 8 players 4 on the evil side which consisted of World Eaters Chaos Space Marines, 2 Bad Moons ork Clans, and a vast Nurgle army. The other 4 players on the good side contained an Eldar, Black Templars, Blood Angels, the Imperial Fists first company, and a small contingent of Necrons. Oh yeah the good side also had a warhound and a warlord titan. The evil side had a Chaos Baneblade, and 3 Brass Scorpions of Khorne.

The good side won the roll for first turn and the warlord, combined with the blood angels battle line opened fire on the orks slaughtering over half of the orks, while the warlords two shoulder mounted weapons destroyed two of the three Brass scorpions. Both destroyed scorpions suffered apocolyptic explosions, which destroyed the majority of the plague marines, and the berzerkers. The remainder of the good forces advanced into firing positions for the following turn. The evil first turn started with every model that wasnt entangled surging towards the good battle line and the baneblade opened up with a main cannon shot that destroyed two of three black templar land raiders, however the remainder of the evil shooting phase accomplished little.

The second turn for the good team started with the decision to save the reserves for the third turn. The only movement consisted of the black templars advancing towards the chaos forces. The shooting phase started with the warlord killing the baneblade and the rest of the orks were massacred by the eldar and blood angels. The evil turn 2 saw all 5 greater daemons coming into play through a warp gate along with two large units of lesser daemons, the rest of the evil sides reinforcements consisted of 2 units of ten terminators with a chaos lord and abbadon the despoiler. The movement and shooting phases were relatively uneventful. The assault phase consisted of the remaining brass scorpion assaulting the blood angel line and even though it was destroyed. Between the initial assault and the apocolyptic explosion of the scorpion several tanks and a lot of infantry were destroyed.

The third good turn commenced with 6 venerable dreadnoughts and over 50 terminators teleporting or drop podding into the midst of the few remaining evil forces and commenced firing. This deadly turn of shooting followed up with a few minor assaults finished off the evil forces. Resulting in a massacre victory for the good team.

Pictures will follow as soon as I find my digital camera. If anyone knows of a battle that has taken place with a points value higher than 52,000 please notify me. But until then I shall claim to have played in the largest pickup game of Warhammer 40K ever.

Heya, I played the BA in this game.

Figuring everything out took from about 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, we also were waiting on 1 or 2 players who got sidetracked because of weather etc... the game itself was something like 4-6 hours, I lost track exactly. I feel we were pretty quick about setup and balance because most people knew what they had or were quick about figuring it out.

Even though it was a great game the evil side did have some bad luck with multiple entanglements and nuclear brass scorpions destroying large amounts of surrounding infantry or preventing said infantry from closing the gap and assaulting where they would have excelled. I personally would love to do it again, maybe I will convince one of the ork players to proxy a great gargant...

I am just happy that my warhound lived after 6 oblitorators and 2 IG meltagun units deepstriked within his void shield radius. The brass scorpion that made it to my lines was less fun, took out a full scout squad half a tac squad and popped my crusader even after I backed it up...

Capt K... I almost cried when I saw that thing to.

On an aside to that, I played in my first game the other day involving a Warlord titan. All I can say, is that the model is about 3000pts under what it should cost. It showed up in an 9,000 per side game, and probably alone accounted for 5,000pts of kills. Broken doesn't begin to describe the Warlord.

And just so no one can say that I'm a sore loser, I was on the winning side of that engagement.

lol that looked like a kid dumped his toy box and a war started! lol Iv seen battles like that before, and it drives me insane, but its good to know that yall had fun, thats all that matters. And as for the titan..you could have put a midget on the table and got the same effect...lol sweet game

When was it cool to not be a Marine?

Im not quite sure what you mean Redmond. Aside from the Warlord every single model there was a GW product, all of the toys in the backround are from the store that we played this game in. A lot of time and hard work was put into those models and the group and myself are insulted by your analogy of the game.

I think what he ment was it was a cluster of pewter and plastic. I am arogant and ignorant because I cannot play a game without a model being painted on the table and my gaming group is very much like that. I may cheat at painting by spraying it black and dry brushing everything and paint details on it but my first impression was very much so what redmond said at least prime them black and paint a base color on them or something. Hes not saying you used plastic toy's at a toy store but just the amount of debree (A lot of models)/cluster on the table. There are some incredible conversions there I love the Brass Scorpian conversions they are great and I see some awesome FW stuff including Vanquishers. I love Vanquishers.

I would think you would be more upset with the comment towards the titan then anything else. Just remember opinions are like buttholes everyone has one and they all stink and please dont take peoples thoughts personally. Hes just saying what I described above although it might be something you don't want to hear hes just stating his opinion. I myself was disapointed such a mega battle wasn't all painted.

You bring up and good point. I guess I was to quick with my harsh words. We just have a very lax gaming group, and the best part is about half of them were gone. That means that the next battle will be even bigger!

Some people are really into the painting and modelling aspect of the hobby.

Others are less so. When I buy something I build it quickly so I can do what I really enjoy - play a strategy wargame with it. Painting I do in my free time whenever I get around to it, because I'm nitpicky and it's incredibly time-consuming and I have other hobbies.

I have a lot of painted models and a lot more unpainted models. If you have to have your models painted to play, fine. If you won't join a battle with unpainted models on the board - well, that's also fine. We'd reduce the points total of the game, count you out, and have fun ourselves. No skin off our backs.

It might be the way you wrote it up, but I get the feeling it was several hours setting up then first turn decided the battle.

No it really was only a half an hour set up. It was simply frantic, with eight players setting up at the same time as well as ignoring the usual, I placed a model now you get to place a model, it really moved along quickly. Unfortunaly because we only used a half an hour to set up there were many stupid placement errors. And yes the first turn did decide the game, like most games of 40K

Looks like it was a heck of a battle. Glad it didn't take days to do, like a 40k game would have at that scale. Thanks for the pics! I'm prone to using models in a less than paint stance myself, good to see I'm not the only one. Some can't stand it, but to each his own. I've got other things I'd rather be doing than painting up my minis to the nh detail, lik playing the game.
