So we all know that GW is preparing to release new schexy bikers for the orks, but what to do with the old tiny not so great looking bikes in your collection? Well I turned mine into deff koptas! I realize it can be hard to envision it without pictures on how I did it, but basically I replaced the upper body of the gorkamorka ork with a newer one, and cut the wrists and repositioned them to hold the handles and gave em leather bracers to hide the cut made out of green stuff. I cut the rediculously long guns down to the sides, and gave the open front a rectangular armor shield made from plasticard, with a cut out to see thru. Next I hid the front wheel majority with a steam shovel plow made again from plasticard, but leaving enough to show so it looks like when it comes in for a landing it uses its old tracks and wheel still. I then mounted on the side of the plow rokkits I bits ordered from the killa kans set. And the boss poles I never used in the rear of the bike had the top symbol cut off, green stuff added to the top of the mast to look like a mini coke can in shape (mount for the helicopter blades) cut some blades from plasticard, and glued the cut symbol from the bosspole on the top to hide the glue/green stuff. The poles are a perfect height for the blades, just low enough so that if the boy stood up in his seat he would lose his head. I added a rotor fin on the end and drilled a hole in the bottom of the bike for a flying base. It even travels easy, as its a smaller cut down bike, and the helicopter blades and base are not glued on, but fit perfectly when set up.

I hope this inspires some people to make use of there older models. Heck I was looking at the actual ork deff kopta, and I think its funny- these new ones look better than the actual deff koptas and definatley look better as converted koptas then they ever did as bikes. My plasticard isnt flat, but has grooves in the shape of squares. When added onto the bike they make perfectly shaped checkers to paint black and white. Very orkey!

interesting idea, may try it with some leftover old bikes i have, but personally I'd remove the wheel and tracks entirely to make it look less 'bikey'. And instead of the 'helicopter' look, another possibility would be to add some ant-grav engines and go for the jetbike look

At one point I was considering converting old bikes to snowmobiles (still 'counts as' bikes) for a arctic-themed army, sinply by replacing the front wheels with a big ski - the back track looks quite snow-mobile-ish without any conversion. Will wait until i see the new sprues before seeing whether they are better or worse for such an idea.

Hmm, must get around to ripping the weedy riders off my old squad of 5 bikes and converting some more modern-sized riders. Or maybe it would be simpler just to start over again with the new bike models...

I thought about taking the wheel off myself, but then again the copter parts arent glued on, so if I feel like it I can still use them as bikes. And they look so much better now than the did previously. The plasticard checkered armor plates really added alot to the 15? year old model. Updated drivers dont hurt either.

Pics? I'd love a visual...

yeah having 15 bikes it makes me think hard about making a new set of 15 bikes.. but since I need 5 trukks anyway I see 5 battleforces in my future (to bulk up the boyz as well)

months of fun work ahead

like your ideas though!
