hey guys,
anyone out there know of a way to prime styrofoam without melting it. I was thinking maybe an airbrush? But I'm not sure that would work either.

Paint (completely) with thinned PVA / white glue, or cover with gesso.
Note that you may require multiple layers of PVA / gesso to get full coverage.

I've just used house paint in the past. Works for insulation foam and regular styrofoam. You have to definitely cover it completely though.

Gotta use latex, or at least non-aerosol. It's the chemicals in the propellant that eats styrofoam.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

For spray on primer over styrofoam the Rust-Oleum brand "Painter's Touch" works pretty good for me. If you really concentrate on one area it will eventually melt the foam but as long as you go light over it once, then again to finish it works well.
