Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

Ok, Iv done some snoopin around on FW, and I just looked through the entire line of DKK models...and I was in shock and awe! For some reason Iv been totally amazed of the WWI trench warfare, and how much life in a war like that must be worse than death, and then I saw these models, and they reminded me exactly of what I think a WWI army would look like. I just imagined these models firing their weapons as explosion, death, and destruction happened all around as rain fell from the sky, turning the trenches into mud lines...then I snapped to reality...and remembered that some forgeworld models that Iv bought in the past havent always been the best, with flaws on them too often...so would this dream army of mine be worth the money, if the models Im going to get arent going to be satisfactory? Anyone have any experiance with some of FW newer models or even the DKK models?

THe DKK models are absolutely amazing! The models themselves are resin so they require a little cleaning of the flash but that is it. The detail is unparalled in plastic and metal. You should definitel buy them

I only have Death Korp troops at the moment and I have to agree they look absolutely brilliant.
When mine arrived a couple of the lasguns were deformed with parts missing (through molding) and several of the arms had to be cut down in places to make them fit the bodies. One other thing to be aware of is the unbelievably brittle nature of resin. I've already snapped off a bayonet and several others looked suspect after a sneeze hitting them.
As for worth it: If you want the quality look that not an awful lot of people have, then yes. In terms of the cost of the models, then I would have to say no.

DKoK armies look great. They do have all the problems that come with resin though.
The down side of them is that they might be the most expensive army to collect in 40k. You have to pay $64 for one infantry squad, and as a guard army you have to have a lot of them. Then it's $100 for 5 rough riders, and $76 for 3 Heavy weapon teams.
Forget e-bay for a good deal on them either. DKoK normally sell for above retail.

They're practically useless when you're using them for an actual IG army. I'm contemplating using them or Elysians as firewarrior replacements, and I'll only have to buy a squad or two of them at most.
Oh, and make sure you can actually paint well if you buy them. Seeing crappy painted Krieg makes Santa cry.

lol well that stinks (the cost wise). I guess its been awhile since I last saw the money exchange rate, and to see $64 for an infantry squad?! Thats making my stomach hurt...but I do agree, the models are absolutely the best IG Iv ever seen, and I fell in love with the damn things, but dang man, $76 for 3 HW teams? Sheesh...

If you want, just buy a squad and paint it up and call it done.
If you MUST have an army, work more hours buy the
army and paint it up.
I mean, if you love the look and don't mind the price, then
buy it. Buying resin sculpts would prevent me from buying
stuff I would actually finish painting and game with, so I
decided against any FW infantry. I might change my mind
if I become rich or something.

Practically. They cost way too much as an entire army and you'll be carting them off in boatloads just like other guardsmen.

Well, in my situation, Im making combat pay as we speak, and Ill have 13 months left in the MC, so Ill be getting enough money to buy an army of DKK...itll be expensive dont get me wrong, but no other IG figures Iv seen have made me so dang happy... theres just something about them...maybe its the circle wheels that remind me so much of WWI, cause I could get the same idea by using Steel Legion...but on GW.com...I cant find Steel Legion infantry boxes....what gives?

Redmond--If you want to do a DKoK army, you can always go the Grenadier/Stormtrooper route. That'll let you take 3 Stormtrooper units as core, and 3 as Elites, along with if you decide to, use Heavy Weapons Platoons as Heavy Support choices. Cuts down the number of models dramatically.
But on the other hand, it makes the army a much more precise scalpel style army compared to the normal sledgehammer that is the Guard. If you have your IG book overseas with you, try fiddling with that. If not, PM me and I'll make you a list.
Steel Legion are in the classic/direct exclusive range, or at least they should be.

That's why you do as much reinforcing as possible--Pinning, use cyanoacrylic glues, sometimes even use green stuff as part of the inner seals with the glue.

Well, I was lookin for the SL models on GW, and the only ones I could find were the heavy weapons teams...which really sucks. And one other thing, is there anything that you can spray over a model to help reinforce it? Maybe hairspray or something? I know I know, hairspray bad idea, but you never know....

I bought a single squad of DKoK Grenadiers, and yes they are nice....another drawback from using resin, other than the flimsy nature of the material, is size! They are a tad bit smaller than normal ( cadian ) IG! This isn't a big deal if you only field DKoK, but if you mix and match it might look a littel off!
If you want my opinion, by all means get a squad for display! But avoid spending hordes of cash on DKoK as a playing army, I know USMC personnel are supposed to be hard as nails, but this WILL bring a tear to your eyes when they inevitably break!
I belive FW stuff is made for the display collector rather than the gamer, price and material choice lead to these thoughts.

@ Delephont- lol I know what you mean, with spending all that model and then something breaks...for normal IG, Id just replace it, or fix it if possible, but Id hate to do it too many times if I got the DKK army...its a pitty too, I wouldve bought a crap load of those models if they werent so easy to break. I was actually thinking what you said, even before I read your reply, to just by models, and make displays, paint them up the best I can, and enter them in painting contests. Its a shame there are hardly any GW model shows close to Dallas.

They are absolutely badass, but I'd advise against buying them. FW's resin stuff is SO fragile I can't see anyway you could really regularly transport these to a store and play a game without a good portion of your guys being destroyed. Big, solid pieces from FW are more durable, but really FW stuff is more of a show-piece than a playable model.

Well, actually it depends...
The Cadian respirator/veteran kits are incredibly sturdy. The special weapons are wonderful, and the Sabre platforms are excellent.
But when you get into the ALL resin figures themselves--the more pieces they have, the fragiler they are. The Krieg look to be fairly solid and sturdy, but I haven't gotten any to give a review on.

I knew a guy when I was overseas spent 4k on Tau so dont feel so bad. I spent like 400$ on FW as I said in my other post just to customize my veichles a little to fit in with my old models because they are almost the same and 800$ on normal figs/tanks when I got back just because I 'could' while still taking care of the wife and buying a new truck and making my payments. Its about even for SL vs DKoK, if you wanted to save some cash then I would deffinately go with a Mechanized angle. That way like most special armies you can really cut down on the expense. Like was said you'll be lookin for 60 models probley 360$ then another 200-300$ on customizing then another 250$ on Chimeras/Russ's or whatever floats your boat. 1000$ for a really cool looking army is deffinately worth it. If not I mean the most you'll need is 150 models really in a 1500-2000 point army. So still over 1200$ possibly a little more or less. That is STILL not bad at ALL for a awesome looking army. I just got back from overseas 2 months ago. So stay safe. And gaming is a great tool to keep your mind straight overseas. Combat pay is nice almost a extra 1000$ a month so deffinately to treat yourself with something nice when you get back. Just be aware FW really doesn't have the greatest customer support and sends things in multiple shipments at least thats been my experiance thus far.
So far I have no complaints about my Forgeworld resin models at all. They are great. No real problems other then on the arms having to cut them down with wire clippers/exacto knife and some other minor things.

lol Yeah, I noticed Steel Legion is a bit expensive which drives me crazy...but yeah, DKK is going to be a bit pricey, but like you were saying Wolverine, spending a chunk of change on an army wont be so bad. I too have a wife, with a truck and soon to have a harley, and I think $1000 or so on an army wont be so bad, thats if I plan to play the game for a while. The only think I dont want to happen, is the models to break so often. I mean, I have some resin models at home from FW, and the only reason why they ever broke or chipped or something, was because I was pissed (and I was really young). Other than that, I cant get away from DKK, so I think I might be in it for the long run. Mechanized doesnt sound so bad....about how many tanks/troops are in a mechanized army of say about...1850-2000 points?

What he said. If you wanted to take a short cut and maybe get some more boom for your buck dont need a second platoon just a armored fist. If you want just look at the 1750 list I have posted and add a 10 man Veteran Squad with Chimera with 3 Plasma Guns and 1 Lascannon while upgrading the Heavy Bolter/Flamer in the last platoon to Lascannon/Plasma Gun that would get you to 2000.
