Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

I heard a rumour for this and a possible 3500 pt limit. Apparently something in the newest white dwarf?

If that’s the case, I will definitely not play. That’s just absurd, 2500 was too unwieldy, let alone more points!

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism." -Hermann Goering (high ranking Nazi)

It's a very, very different game at those point levels. It's then all about expensive characters and monsters and the things that counter them. At 3500 there's no question I'd field Karl Franz on a dragon, a war alter, 3 stanks, and 5 cannons. whatever else I field is kind of irrelevant.

Ogre players can bust out those slaughtermasters! Or just a dozen rhinox riders and call it done

That said, I wonder if the turnout would be as enormous for such a thing. Special characters and general dirtiness ftw!

With the elf dragon kit out, is there any wonder it's set at 3500?

I don't know about Fantasy, but I've noticed in 40k that when you start adding more points like that (usually over 2k) some armies really start to pull away in power. Mostly Imperial. It would be cool though to see all those models in a huge fantasy game though.

I agree that a 3.5K WFB event would be stupid. Besides the imbalance issues (and there would be huge ones at that size) I don't think you could even get most players to get done a game in any kind of time limit at that size. Woof.

That being said, I didn't see anything about it in my quick skim of this month's white dwarf. Could anyone in the know post the quote?

Our store owner got an email about this. 3500 points looks like the way of it.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

How do you all think Beastmen would do at that points-level? I've never played above 2250 with them. Maybe a Slaanesh Shoggoth, chariot horde, 2x bestigor and lots of basic herds? Or magic-heavy and purely herds?

Your advice would be appreciated, as I've not touched the current edition. I dropped fantasy hard when Acheesio nerfed all skirmish armies in one fell swoop, but this could be motivating.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Seems pretty fething stupid to me, if it's even true.

I hope the 'winner' beats out the other 10 guys that beat their way through the other 5 idiots across the country gonna run 3500 points of fantasy.

feth. Talk about needing a lobotomy, no way you'd get me to play that. Esp if it's prizes are more fantasy!

/sigh

How many games can you fit in a day at that level?

I have recently played 3 games at the 4000 point level. Just for fun, because we have all the cool toys that never get used.

The games take a lot longer for some reason. Honestly, by the time you are through with one, you are tired and worn out and don't look forward to a second.

At 4000 points, you'd think you could take everything you want. But you can't. And that doesn't seem right.

It is great fun to throw in a couple of nasty Special Characters that don't normally get table-time.

I faced VC in each game. I had Karl Franz on a griffin, a Stank, and Arch-lector on the Walter, Kurt Helborg, two level two wizards and two warrior priests. 3 units of ten knights, 29 flagellants, 2 units of 24 swordsmen with detachments of 9 halberdiers, 6 pistoliers, a mortar, and a Helstorm. He had a bunch of necromancers and lots of units of skeletons, zombies, and wolves, and some Grave Guard. Oh, and two stupid-big units of Black Knights.

Game one- He gives up at the bottom of turn two, when I crumble the last of his Black Knights, then kill his general.
Game two- I run same list, he tweaks his a bit. And gives up at the bottom of turn two, after I crumble the last of his Black Knights and kill his general.
Game three- same lists as game two, but new VC player who has been watching and wants to try his hand. We had to call the game at the bottom of turn three, because we both had to work the next day, but it was still undecided. Helborg & the Reiksguard were completely surrounded by most of the undead army, but hadn't lost a combat yet (or indeed, failed an armor save) {go, horses!}, and the attacking hordes were about to get charged up the butt by flagellants, the Walter, some pistoliers, and Karl. I was really sad to leave that one unfinished.

I've since been challenged by a Skaven player for a 4000 pointer, and for that one, yes, Karl Franz will get his dragon out, there will be 2 stanks (because I only have 2 models) and 2 units of Rhinox Rider DoW if I can fit them in, and lots of cannon, and my core will be only knights. Because I really, reallly hate skaven. Also, the skaven player is very good, so I will take all the psychological crutches I want.

Play in a tournament at this level? Oh, hell no.

This was my first though also. With High Elves I'd take Teclis, prince on a star dragon, a dragon mage, 5 DOW cannons and whatever else I felt like. I expect most people who want to win will come to the same conclusion.
