are a crying shame:

I paid 7.50 euros for

30 small round bases with hole fpr metal models (as if I didn't have enough of those. I need the ones without the hole damnit!)
5 40mm round bases
and 2 (TWO!) extra large bases.

I also took a look in the fantasy packes which has standart bases without hole and a few swarm and caverlarie bases. no huge monsterbases.

just thought you guys should know.

Go to litko aerosystems - http://www.litkoaero.com/

you can get 100 x 60mm round bases on 3mm plywood for $ 15.

GW just lost my business. I used to buy a lot of the 60mm large bases at 15 for $ 5 for terrain projects. Now I get 2?!!! in a bag. No thanks

Give it a few days, and I will be selling GW bases at Wookie Hole.

www.wookiehole.com

Due to the nature of the site, I tend to get a fair few bases so I will be selling them at a much better rate.

Cheers,

Just to be fair, the 60mm bases you used to get in the 15-pack were leftover bases from one of their specialist games, not the bases with a bevel like the slotta-bases.

You weren't able to buy them easily at all before, and to bitz-order them cost something like $2.50 each.

I agree completely about needing non-slotta-bases and getting slotta bases in the pack (I've got to have a thousand extra slotta bases taking up space around, but not one single extra non-slotta).

Yeah, that's one good thing. Before this, I thought you had to order some big model from Forgeworld to get the beveled 60mm bases.

I wanted to rebase my regular crisis suits to match the size of the big bases so I just stuck a bunch of flat 60mm bases together. Oh well.

Anung: You had to pay 7.50 Euros? It's only $8 in the states.

Not to stand up for GW, because I think this base pack is moronic, but if you just glue a slip of paper over the hole on a slottabase, you can't tell after it's had flock or sand put on it.

Heck, just use tape.

Well, I glue weights into the bases of all my plastic models, so that they're a little more stable, and while tape over the slot takes care of the gap for appearances, I cannot fit my weights into the base because of the slot structure. So, I'd still rather that they pack these sets with slotless bases.

I tried to pick up a pack of those 'titan bases' when GW stopped selling them. I won't be buying a pack of these, well done GW.

I was discussing this with a buddy a few weeks ago. A bunch of crap; it would be different if this were a complement to being able to buy a bag of one single type base. GW is trying to make more money with this, but I think it's only going to piss people. off more.

Alternatives to GW bases:

Litko (already mentioned)
GF9: specifically the econo base range
For round tech bases, Champ Industries
Or do what a lot of grognards do: washers. you can get 3/4" or 1" washers (20-25mm) pretty easily, and they end up costing a couple of pennies each at the most. Also, when you need new bases, you just run down to the hardware store/DIY store. I haven't used washers yet, just because I'm drowning in plastic bases right now, but there will come a time when that's the route to go...

As to covering up slottas: as learned from the Brushthralls, I use a piece of masking tape. Use a sanding stick (an emory board works fine and is cheap too) to rough up the base top, put a piece of tape over the slot, rub down (heh) and proceed. Once you put the model down, base and flock it, no one will ever tell. I based 27 Sash & Saber ACW figs on slotta bases I had lying around that way.
