Any of you interested in this stuff? My original plan was
to check out Iron Kingdoms, but maybe I'd want both and
compare stories and mechanics, etc.

The questions part of the website uses a weird font that
capitalizes every freakin' word in a sentence, so it's a little
bit aggravating.

Playing as an Inquisitor's retinue seems very fun.

Yeah Malfred-That Capitals Stuff Is Really Annoying.

As a Gm with about 25 years of pure geekiness-this looks like a must. I really enjoyed WFR in the late 80's, and we dabbled a little into trying it with then RT (or 1st Ed) where the book was rich with 'background'. I will never say the Fl*ff word. Ever.

So yeah, with easy access with figs, terrain, it would be a blast.

I think we worked out our rulebooks for Palladium cost $200.00 all up, and we played(a group of 5-13) with them for about 6 years. Now that's value for money, folks!

How was the Fantasy Roleplay when they released it? Was
it just a rehash?

I recently got my Dark Herecy rulebook, looks interesting.

Sadly if you dont have a rulebook now ods are you wont be able to get one, aparently Black Industries is closing down and thus despite selling out all their core rulebooks from all common roleplay sources in just a few weeks (look for it in large online book shops that are not known for selling such literature, thats where I got mine) there is as of yet no word if there is going to be a reprint.

The game is based on the new WHFRPG rules but have quite a few alterations in them, most seem good.

The WHFRPG rules are very different from the old rpg, they kept some of the more core concepts such as careers and revamped the rest.

Both games are D10 based wich is good (in all honesty I think GW should switch their tabletop games to D10 too, gives for more diversity).

The Dark Heresy book lets you play a party of Inquisitorial henchmen, think daemon hunters, the creers have been streamlined so there are only 8 main categories to choose from but each one has atleast two distinctly different paths to advance thorugh.

You can play Adept, Arbitrator, Assassin, Cleric, Guardsman, Imperial Psyker, Scum or Tech Priest.

I have thus far not tried out the rules but I am going over them in the hope of playing sometime not too far into the future.

The idea was that Black Industries would relese two more core rulebooks with alternate focuses, I hope thise will sometime in the future come out but with GW you know not to hold your breath, the ones hinted were Rouge Trader and Adeptus Astartes.

As this book deals with Daemon hunters the rules covers humans, daemons and beasts, they havent even stated out orks or spacemarines but then why would they

Anyhow, 3 more books will be coming out before Black industries close down and two are rules compendiums so hopefully I wont have to make upp too many rules on my own.
I will however be getting the Inquisitor rulebook as an aid.

I ran a test game in a sort of pulp horror action theme. Bunch of gaurdsmen (1 Scum with a flamer, 1 sanctioned Psyker, 1 Arbiter Military Police, 2 Guardsmen)
We even did the random character generation, which the lads enjoyed as a quick and easy alternative to D'n'D character creation or the like. It took us under 15 minutes to make the characters.
I simplified the combat, only using hit locations for crits and averaging armour over the character in total. That's because I like fluid and cinematic combat as opposed to super detailed. with this sort of system combat was a breeze to work out. The lads were fighting a genestealer cult, and just multiplying stats by 10 is a pretty easy rough port from 40K. (Obviously some extra traits and stuff are cool too, and WP = (LDX10)/2).
We ran 8 distinct combats and none of them dragged on or became boring. Considering I'm generally opposed to combat heavy RPGs, finding them tedious and repetative, this is high praise. We got the game wrapped up in 2 and a half hours too, which is lighting fast. So as far as action goes, this game is well suited to it, and has enough depth, flavour and potential for intrigue to make social interaction very useful.
I plan on writing a few more once offs, and when I have more free time, running a campaign for Ordo Xenos.
Have to say, very impressed, and dissapointed there won't be more.

Black Industries will be releasing Dark heresy Products untill September 2008.

February
DH Core Rule Book
DH Charecter Folio
DH Game Master Screen

March
DH Purge The Unclean - Campaign/Adnventure supplement

June
DH inquisitors Handbook - Supplement Advanced Player Carrers

September
DH Disciple Of The Dark Gods - Supplement - bad dudes

Talked about stuff
Calixis Sector - They are taking fan submissions to detail out the planets of the Calixis Sector, which I imagine will be turned out into a supplement

The 200 - They have mentioned that some of 200 inquisitors in the Calixis Sector will be detailed out in an upcoming supplement. Could be in the same book as the planets.

Space Marines - Aside from a Marine NPC in Purge The Unclean, no Marine material is planned. I think marines could be handled simply by starting the stats at 30+2d10 and using the information on all the marine implants from the 2nd edition rulebooks. The only challenge I see is figuring out how power armor should work. Rest assured if someone else doens't do this shortly, I'll post Space Marine rules myself, after Purge The Unlcean is released.

Vehicles- Vehicle rules are available for free on the BI site.

Yep, it all looks very good but you must also know that Black Industries are sleighted to close down.

This sadly meens that if their decition stands then the books listed as fourthcomming at their site will come out and after that someone will have to manage to get the licence or no more official stuff.

Sad really, I was looking forward to the Rouge Trader book.

Check out the lovely news history:

25/January/2008 - Dark Heresy Sold Out
We were planning to tell people that the Dark Heresy core rulebook was on sale today, however on the strength of preorders alone we have sold out of the books.

As a result you will not be able to buy Dark Heresy from our Online Store, please contact your local bookshops or gaming stores to see if they have a copy for you.

and then!

28/January/2008 - Black Industries Announcement
Black Industries regret to announce that Dark Heresy: Disciples of the Dark Gods out in September will be the final product to be released from Black Industries.

Kevin Rountree General Manager of BL Publishing said ‘As a result of the continued and impressive success of our core novels business, which we have built around 40K and Warhammer, we have decided to focus all of our efforts on growing this part of our business. Black Industries has seen fantastic success, most recently with Talisman and Dark Heresy. This change does not take away from that achievement rather it allows BL Publishing to focus on producing the best novels we can. This is a purely commercial decision and will enable us to carry on the huge growth that we have recently been experiencing with our novels’

For the time being Black Industries will continue to post articles in support of the products on their official website, which is a fantastic resource for scenarios and gaming tools for GM’s and players alike.

Yeah I picked up a copy of the rulebook and so far I'm impressed. Its a shame its sold out, but it can still be found in some stores and then of course there is always the interwebz... I'm really looking forward to the rest of the books that they plan on publishing. Oh and don't miss out on the vehicle rule supplement that they posted on their website along with a mini adventure!

The fact that they won't be printing any new material after September doesn't diminisht he fact the game is quite playable as is, and should appeal to anyone was a fan of INQUISITOR.

In fact, I would go far as to say this is what INQUISITOR should have been in the first place.

I would sugest that anyone wanting to play Dark Heresy go to the specialist games section of GW's site and get the Inquisitor rules.

True those rules are not readilly compatable however you will find alot of nice ideas in there as well as a better understanding of the difference between a normal human and a space marine.

According to the News and Rumors forum

Fantasy Flight Games will be taking over all 40K related games, including the RPG.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/208148.page

Soo it looks like BI will produce DH untill September and then FFG will take over DH.

We might even get our Rouge Trader and Space Marine RPG's now

That is very good news.

The only question is does anyone know anything about fantasy flight games?

Do they do good work?

I am a tad worried, seems they do alot of RPG's for the D20 system, lets hope they keep Dark Heresy out of that swamp.

Fantasy Flight Games does some great work.

I've never purhcased any of their D20 stuff, but they make the Descent(think D&D), DOOM, and World Of Warcraft boardgames. All of which are high production quality, fun to play, and come with tons of well sculpted 28mm scale miniatures.

Well if you wanted to asure me that they are good then you just named two game names that give no such reasurement.

D&D and World of Warcraft.
Nither is a favorite of mine, one is for powergamers and the other is just dull.

Okay then, simply don't buy ANY of the new 40K Stuff put out by Fantasy Flight Games then.

If the two most wildy successfull Fantasy setting games franchises in the world don't appeal to you, you must evidently have unique tastes that go against what most people think is good

Made in se
Regular Dakkanaut

Well as far as I know D&D never really did have a single setting, true it is very successfull but that has more to do with its rules than the world, I am not a fan of the D20 rules and if that makes me unique then so be it (I like caviar, crayfish and stout too).

As for the warcraft setting, to be honest I dont really know much about it, its a computer game setting with little or no depth in my opinion.

The warhammer setting started out similarilly but has evolved thanx to GW's tight control of it to become one of the most interesting fantasy worlds available to play in.

My hope here is that GW keep an equally tight grip on the 40k world now that it moves into the RPG domain. Likewise I hope they keep the FRPG in line as well.

You are however right, if they turn Dark Heresy or WHFRPG into a D20 game I will not buy it but I hope they will not do that.

On a final note, the US Budwiser beer is undoubtedly one of the more successful beer brands in the world, that however speaks nothing of its quality as you would have to pay me to drink it

With the gaming world as it is now, I have no clue
where things come from. But I do know that I bought
the Twilight Imperium game with a Fantasy Flight Games
label on it, and it was good.
