A few hours ago, when i was in a local (german) GW-store, the redshirts recieved an e-mail with a new official Ork-FAQ.
When i looked at it, I saw that it clearly states that the PK on a shoota-nob is NOT possible.
Same is true for S&C on a Shoota-Nob.
I was shocked.
If this is really true (for me it is, as i saw it with my own eyes), there have to be done some edits concerning
Theoryhammer 40k.
Maybe Trukks are going to be more popular again.
But the main questions are:

1. What to do with the tons of painted Shootas?
2. Is the footslogging horde still competetive?
3. If so, will it consist of S&C-boys?
4. Has anyone else seen the document mentioned above?

This is all very confusing for me, 'cause it came so unexpected.
Please share your thoughts about this.

That PK issue really surprises me....

Any chance of a link or anything?

I don't see why you thought the Slugga and Choppa Nob in a mob of Shootas was possible, although it's interesting to see GW renege on the possibility of Power Klawed Nobs in Shoota Mobs. I reckon, given the recent discussions on the Internet, that this was disallowed because the consensus was homogenizing on "competitive builds" and other blarney even quicker than usual.

Here's some of my answers:

1. Play with them. Shootas don't get any worse because you're not wasting points on Power Klaws. You don't even have to field a Nob!

2. Yes, but then you have to be a capable player and not rely on your army to play itself.

3. Sure, no doubt the zeitgeist will turn and we'll be back to the good old days where the received wisdom was Slugga Boyz up the Ying-Yang and Orks were perceived as a "weak" or "lower-tier" army, and those of us with armies of Shoota Boyz will get back to winning games more easily because we can once again underhandedly use people's prejudices against them.

4. Nope. Pretty interested to see it. Especially interested in seeing an English version.

Offhand, if you see a Magician saw a lady in half with your own eyes, is it really true that he did that? And what does "true for you" mean? Is that like true regardless of facts or reality? Usually that's "false". Just wondering.

Thats the problem with it.
It arrived just before closing time.
So i have to wait for tomorrow to be able to distribute it. (Its now 11:30pm here in GER)
If i can get my hands on a printed version (likely to happen), i'll let you know.

Sorry for the lot of confusion 'round here

Edit:@ Nurglitch:
"True for me" means that i believe it because i saw the document attached to an e-mail coming from the german GW-HQ.
I wrote "for me" because you don't have to believe me. Obvisiosly you don't have any reason for it, as i cannot prove anything I'm saying.
But let me straighten out one thing:
I am not posting here to go like "Har Har, i know some insider stuff that you don't know, I'm better than you!"
I only want to inform you about (possible) new developtments concerning the recent rule-debates.
It is understandable that you are suspicious and maybe, who knows, it turns out to be a german HQ-staff member's going lone hand .
Time will tell.

But please, feel free to post your ideas of what would happen if this turns out to be future of the 'Dex.

I would be very happy to see an FAQ for the Orks. I believe it would be a very decent thing for GW to do to actually address any issues the codex has EARLY ON.

Time will tell if we get one here in the States.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

The only reason we came up with a competitive build so quickly is most of us have been referencing the leaked version for about six months.

Honestly I feel that this is how GW should do it's play-testing. Come up with something pretty close to finished and let out the bare bone rules. scan the internet and adjust accordingly

All out of witty one-liners.

If GW put out a FAQ period I'd be ecstatic. It might mean that they aren't treating their customers like 2 dollar whores anymore......

Actually it does make shoota boyz worse. All it takes to tie up your 30 strong unit and wipe em out/make em useless for the rest of the game is a dedicated marine assault squad or terminator squad. With no str 8 power klaw when a wraithlord gets in meelee there, or any number of dreadnaught type units, that unit is lost. It wont even get a chance to run for it until 20+ of the orks have been killed. The klaw is absolutely vital to ork units, otherwise its a certain win for some units vs the boyz. There is a reason tau firewarriors are considered weak despite there great range and superior guns. The reason is any type of decent meelee they get in its an auto loss.

I sure hope you can keep those PK nobs... I've got plenty of brand-spankin new Shoota Boys that'll be crying themselves to sleep if they lose their heavy-hitter.

EDIT: On another note, it would be awfully cruel for them to force players to convert a Nob with a shoota (assuming you'd still want one in the mob), especially after they just started including the Nob in the plastic set; the Nob in the plastic box gets a PK or a Choppa, and the metal box has twin-linked shootas at best.

Laf. No such FAQ exists.

The stupidity of such a move is beyond comprehension.

I just called the german HQ. That's what came out:
The guy said that the FAQ was available in Germany only and it only effected "translation errors" in the German dex.
It would be uploaded during the next week.
The English codex would be flawless and there was nothing to get wrong in there.

Great! So what Bull is this again?!
Am i not able to play the PK now only because I'm german?
I knew i should have bought the English version!

By the way, does anyone of you know the e-mail account of Jervis Johnson? It is said he published it in the WDs regulary.
Maybe we could mail him. If enough people do, they'll at least recognize that there is an issue....

I wouldn't worry too much. The author of the codex (Phil Kelly) played a Shoota Mob with a Powerklaw Nob in the inaugural WD battle report, so if they are going to make a FAQ ruling I would wager it would be to allow such a combination to exist.

Jervis is on a mountaintop communing with the thunder god. He isn't taking emails from players, hasn't in a long long time.

Thus the disconnect between what the players like and what shows up.

Phil Kelly is at the pub if you want to talk to him.

If you really want his attention, write a letter, a real paper letter. They tend to pay more attention to that.

I would agree with you if they werent willing to overlook rules to pimp there new army releases in the WD battle reports. Like say how the chaos army release battle report, chaos ignored pinning twice.

Agreed. One of my aquaintances on the B&C wrote Jervis a letter recently and got a nice and informative response. Whatever your opinions are about Jervis's design philosophy, he's a nice guy and likes to talk shop.

Same discussion on wargamerau where this was posted by a very well connected dude.

"Heres the answer from Phil Kelly when asked by one of the testers.

The intent - nobs in shoota mobs can have power klaws.

RAW - oops, unlucky Boyz

Its being referred to Alessio for the FAQ and either they will side with intent or RAW

have to wait and see. personally i hope they go for intent but its not up to me."

cheers

This brings in fact a little hope...
Thanks for all your answers.

The only thing that bothers me is that I am bound to wait until Alessio wakes up( ) and publishes an FAQ
before i can assemble my Boyz.

But the entire discussion here as originally supposed to share thoughts about what would happen if that turned out to be real.
So, please keep it comming:
-Would S&C-Boys be able to replace the Shootas?
-How would they do that?

Meh, it doesn't change things very much. I'd certainly prefer to have that Nob in there, but I'll still field 30 Shootas regardless. I'll just have to paint one extra Shootaboy for the mob I'm working on now.

With a Nob, 3 Big Shootas, 3 Rokkits, and 27 Boyz, that's 34 models in one run. You win GW!

So it is not official!
