I'm currently working on building a bunch of leman russ' for my armoured company army and I am going with the side skirt option as I am a fan of the side skirts during WWII. Below are 2 examples i've created in plastic card. Before i went hogwild I drew the score marks to make the sideskirts into panels and where I plan on putting bolts with a sharpie.

Partial skirt

Full skirt

if you have any opinion on which looks better, or alternative skirt styles or methods please let me know! I have 6 total tanks to do up like this so I am very interested in frontloading all the planning instead of getting 2 or 3 tanks in and getting a better idea on what to do.

Somewhere in south-central England.

No.2 looks neater but it conceals the already existing details of the wheel suspension. So I can't decide.

I think you should line up the panel marks and rivets with the frame structure that is already there on the top of the track arches.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

The first design is slightly better, because you preserve some of the original detailing for view.

i reckon the first one but it'd need some work done on it,
maybe make it so its spaced from the actual hull like the real Shurtzen was,
and raised a bit so it wouldn't rip its amour of if the ground was not precisely flat

Those are just plasticard mocks i've laid next to the model before I go all out and glue the model together. As you stated they where rased from the ground a bit so they didn't snag on things and would be spaced instead of laying flat against the tank tread.
