What do you ork players think of the zzap guns battery? I haven't gotten a chance to use them in a game, so I just want to know how effective they've been for anyone who has. It looks like they lost their auto hit and their 2d6 armor penetration. I just wonder if it is worth it to spend 90 points on 'em. I was thinking about taking 4 more warbikes with that 90 points.

Even with improved range, the fact you can fry your own guys makes them inferior to kannons. Average 2d6 roll is 7, kannons are str 8 and less points. However I have found lobbas highly useful thus far, for the points cost anyway.

The Kannons are cheaper and more reliable. I wouldn't take the Zzaps unless
A. There is a gun to your head
B. You love the models

Not that you asked, but you probobly should think about dropping the bikes too.

All out of witty one-liners.

I faced a battery of them today, and they managed to kill off a few Dev Marines in a forest, then did nothing and were eventually wiped out.

The fact that they bring AP2 to the table is appealing. One of them manage to wound a Terminator in my game, but he made his 5+ save. They also bring a decent potential to knock out vehicles, and they auto shake, but the only vehicles in my list were Land Speeders.

I don't think they're as good as Kannons, at least not in proportion to the extra point cost, but they're decent.

They're more threatening to vehicles, with the possibility of higher strength and the auto-shake, than kannons, but more expensive and less reliable. I have two batteries of kannons, but I think I'll be getting a battery or two of lobbas since I've done well proxying them (and since they're more effective barrage weapons than kannons now).

The reliability was always an issue for me. I always stayed away from them.

you have to remember that the most common str for zzap guns statistically is 10 think about it, on 11 or 12 you remove a gretchin, but it still shoots and that means 3 chances to roll str 10 not to mention 9 and 8 still arent THAT bad for even taking down armor14.

Kannons can consistently shoot str 8 yes, but orks NEED something to mess up termies and AP2 is the only way to do that since the slugga rule is gone.

umm, i think thats it. 36" range is awesome, admittedly not as good as the lobbas but still pretty decent.

my advice is just throw extra gretchin on the zzap gunz, along with some ammo runts they are deadly

Da' orks were made ta fight 'n' win!

Your chances of getting a 10 are 1 in 6, but that doesn't change the fact that your average strength is less then 7 and your average armor pen is less then 10.5 (because if you get 11 or 12 strength it is slightly wasted so your average is lowered)

But what I wonder is, can you roll strength before you roll to hit? It says "when it is fired" you roll strength not when it hits. That means you can save the ammo runts to only reroll the high strength shots, that could help them a bit... hmm. It's only a 1 in 12 chance to lose a crew anyways.
