My Librarian charged a decked out flyrant and scored a wound. He passed his perils of the warp test and sucked the soul out of that abomination. But then it made his 6+ invulnerable save and decided that my application for insta-death would be rejected. My Librarian then got crabclawed to death. I'm not saying that I would have won the game, but this was turn 5 and the Zilla List was at my lines. It's always fun when someone makes that ridiculous save. Anyone else have ridiculous invul stories?

Not an invunerable save, but I once had two fanatics smash into my opponents saurus cavarly. They caused 4 wounds, and he made 4 6+ saves.
We were both in shock. But not as shocked as my night goblins when they held against the charge...

It's a bit of a 'big fish' tale, but I did once witness a guy marching a squad of vets to try to get into hth with the enemy (which also happened to be guard).
The squad gets hit with a battle cannon, and only the sgt lives. Then he gets hit with a second shot that scatters into him, and the guy rolls a one to wound. Then he rapid fired by a whole squad of lasguns and makes all of his saves but one, then makes his bionics save. Then he charges into hth with a plain jane squad of guardsmen in cover, who promptly score one hit, one wound, and kill him before he swings.
So he survived 2 battlecannons and 20 or so lascannon shots, to die to a rifle stock to the face.

How about "Honk for orks making their regular save." One I would have to honk for was Armor Platez in the previous ork dex (it seemed to work more often than it should have). Any way, another story along these lines, I had a friend with a lone IG sarg (passed his moral check) with Las pistol who rolled a 6 to hit against a Demon Prince with one wound left, a 6 to wound, and then saw the sucker fail his save! It was rediculous, we figured he then put his pistol back in the holster and said, "well now that's over with."

When I was still new and used Kroot incorrectly, I used to upgrade their armor to 6+ with the shaper. Using a squad of ~10 guys and a couple of gun drones from a devilfish, I killed an 8-man squad of assault marines charging into cover. Saved ~5 wounds as well.
But nowadays I'm wiser and those poor bastards get no armor from the quartermaster.

Hmmm, mine is the other side of the coin.
5 Assault Terminators(1st time fielded-EVER) DS near a guard squad of 10 Inf. They RF thier lasguns. I suffer 4 wounds. I rolled 1,1,1,2. 3 Termies die. The last two, end up being shot in the face by the last two Guard surviving from the squad, after they scattered thier own Basilisk shot onto themselves.
Scores as follows-
Guard killed-5 Ass Termies, 8 Guardsmen.
Termies killed -0.
6+, yeah, one in a million baby...........

I was using the store marine list vs my friends Lysander Wing. Fortunately, the store list had 2 vindicators. I managed to take out all but one of his homers with 3 tornadoes, and bunkered up with the rest. I managed to keep both alive when he teleported down. So now he was stuck with 20 terminators (old base size) that all fit neatly under a pie plate. The first vindicator shot scattered 6" and failed the lone partial. The second went 3" off target, hitting 8 guys. I rolled 4 ones to wound. He made all of his invunerable saves.
After that I pretty much got manhandled for the rest of the game.

Once when playing 3rd Ed against Milsteg, I was playing IG with Grey Knight support against his USF Eldar. Deep struck a Grand Master into my lines, where they shot up some guardians, and then the retinue was shot away by massed Eldar fire.
Now the Grand Master was all on his own, and was then shot at by 4 bright lances. All 4 hit (a miracle for him!), 4 wound, and I made 4 4+ inv. saves to survive instant death. It was awesome, and he subsequently started chewing into the Avatar's retinue shortly after.

Since we are sharing the magnanimous big fish tales,
I once had a lone plebian sister of battle kill two assasins in CC.
Three player game, and they both charge a squad of sisters
(one guy had an eversor, one had a callidus)
Killed all the sisters except one.
She slaughters both in an amazing array of dice roles in 4 rounds.
I promptly took her off of the battle field intending on giving her special paint in honor of her great deeds.
Instead, the Holy =][= had had other plans in mind...
Without ceremony, she was dipped alive into bronze and made into a statue
so that her virtue would forever be honored in the city where my armies perpetually fight.
It doesnt pay to be a hero. Just ask Sister Agnes what heroism gets you.
She would tell you if she could get the pigeon crap off of her lips long enough to talk.

I used to play against a blood angels chappy that always took bionics along with every other piece of wargear (artificer, terminator honours, master crafted, jump pack, etc, ...) this was the oldrules where bionics worked like WBB and it came back in their next turn. Maybe. So if it survives your turn you don't don't if it's back until the next turn. Not fun.

Mine's a 2- sort of story.
It was the end of my shooting phase, Two guardsmen being chased off the table by two assault termis. The IG rapid fired, 4 hits, 3 wounds, 2 dead termis.
I did a victoey lap of the table. It'd taken 1k points worth of shooty bits (including 2 battle cannon rounds) to drop the first 3 dudes (after they DS) and 750 pts worth of shooting the next round didn't scratch the remainders ... but 12 pts worth of reminants killing 2 termis ... priceless.

Craziest for me was back in 3rd ed. (a while ago) i had a game as my DE vs. my friends speed freeks army. It boiled down to by 6th turn it was my archon v. his warboss w/ one wound in a trukk. He was just going to speed around and avoid me for the moral victory but on his turn he got too close to me and i took advantage.
To the best of my memory it went something like this:
Pumped my archon w/ drugs i think i took +1 str., the 12" assault and +1 A
Fleeted (needed a 6 to get into assault with the trukk) - 6
Trukk moved like 20"(needed 6's to hit) - rolled 1 6
6 to glance - BOOM
Boss is wounded on the disembark and dies! My buddy wasnt even mad because the image of my little archon backhanding the trukk and crusheing the mighty warboss was to priceless.

Once I had a lone Marine with a meltagun from a tactical squad roaming free. There is an enemy Master and Librarian joined from the remnants of a command squad. Marine fires meltagun and caps Librarian. Master then stumbles through difficult terrain and fails to assault lone Marine. Next turn Marine caps Master as well. Not a 6+ but still funny as hell... hurrrrr!

My first game of 40k in a long time - back in the begining of 4th ed.
I had my BT facing my friends 'nilla marines.
My assault squad in turn five had only my chaplain left my oponent gunned his LS tornado towards him but was out of range/los.
My following turn the chaplain jumps straight at the speeder gets into bolt pistol range and shoots.
He hits. Now needing a 6 to glance. A 6 is rolled.
Then to finish it I rolled a 6 on the glancing table.
We still talk about that to this day.
Alternatively My BT dreadnaught, who was venerable for the day, held an entire nid assault for 3-4 turns. The dice that day were unbelievable.
We now call him Brother Olorin - sad LOTR reference I know.

First turn he shot at my Crud with his Basilisk, Ordinance 6... all gone. Shoots my Assault squad with rattlings... pins. Turn 2 Basilisk shot on the Assault squad, gone. Heavy weapons the rest of my 5 man squad. 2 turns and I was completely wiped off the board...

I guess this isnt really a story about 6+ saves but it might fit in here. I had a 4 man squad of GK termies charge a 20 man squad conscrpits with commisar gaunt. First attack 4 only 4 conscripts died and commisar gaunt killed 2 termies. Next turn i kill 4 more and he kills BOTH TERMIES!!! . I couldnt do anything but laugh about it he caused 2 wounds and i rolled 2 1s. It was the bottom of the 6th turn and i had nothing to exact revenge with so the conscrpits went on living knowing they just killed 4 GKTs and bragging to everyone they could.

Also not quite a 6+ save story but still pretty funny.
I destroyed a 1250p army of SW with an ork warboss and 5nobz in mega-armor. Everything was mounted in rhinos and every time a rhino was destroyed half the marines would end up dying.

Back in the day…either just before or just after the release of 2nd edition, I was playing with a friend and he charged a tyranid warrior (hand to hand monster in those days) into my last remaining dire avenger. The avenger loses combat takes 4 hits, 3 of which wound so he has to make 3 saves at -2…so he needs to roll three 6’s to live… and he did. That held the line long enough for the banshees to get there and take care of the tyranid. It was glorious and thus began the legend of “The Lone Avenger”.

My story of the multiple nightmare
I was playing a 1500 point Harlequin army of death experiment with 3 ten harly units plus support led by an Autarch. Because I did not read the deployment rules carefully on a CoD scenario I found that I could only deploy my troops in the 1st turn with everything else on reserves. The DA player I was playing against got to go 1st and proceed to beat the hell out of my 2 storm guardians inside a building with a veritable storm of fire and assualted the survivors leaving him in control of the scenario objective.
I could still contest his victory if one of the Harlys squads reached the building or if my HW squads wiped out the HQ squad inside the building, "come on I´m eldar and my autarch is supposed to win battles on the 11th hour" roll for the first squad , second squad ,third squad , DR squad at that point I concided the game it was clear that my Harlyes were from Orange County Craftworld and were not going to dirty their brand new Armaniel jackets helping a bunch of [ParisHilton]not very cool[/ParisHilton] guardians.
Of course as my Seers have already predicted this outcome only sent uncool people to the city.

At a mega battle, playing IG, just got all my infantry up to date and on the line, this was almost seven or eight years ago. Space Marine army asks me to do the infantry sheild with my dog faces, so I do. We start stomping forward and the Chaos player starts deep striking in his forces just ahead of mine. The area behind the lane of advance was clogged with units that just reserved onto the field, so he had to drop in front. Each DS rolled forward into my Guard, killing 1200pts worth of Chaos obliterators, assault marines, and plenty others. Player next to him says "I'll get this one for ya," and drop 2300pts of Dark Eldar and Chaos in front of my line. They roll back onto my Guard, killing them all. Along comes an Ork Bomba plane, guy declared his approach path then wandered off before I got my chance to fire at him (was very unhappy) so I didn't get to defend (should have called him on it, too bad). First bomb rolls behind my lines onto the Marines. Drops over thirty bombs on the poor buggers and obliterates half the force (1200pts or so), but misses all of my Guard.
The Chaos line, which had been locked in combat with Marines and Eldar for this duration, finally wade up to my lines and all those good boys died, 1000pts worth, though they took 800pts with them in the fray. For the rest of the game I plunked away with my armor and Heavy Weapons. So, 1000pts of Guard for 4300pts of Chaos and Dark Eldar. Good times, promoted many soldiers that day from regular Sergeants and troopers to Veterans.

My command squad in my old Imperial Guard army was basically a collection of incredible tales. Witness the lone autocannon soldier that kills a Dark Eldar Archon with a shadowfield from across the board on turn one. The Heroic Senior Officer killing a pair of tooled up Tyranid Warriors, consolidating into the Hive Tyrant, and killing him as well, all with a master-crafted power sword.
Best, however, was one of their last against a Chaos warband. The squad getting forced out of their transport on turn one, running an insane gauntlet of heavy weapons fire, before everybody but the HSO is killed by bolter fire. Frying a Chaos Marine with his Plasma Pistol, he hits the squad like a thunderbolt, cuts down three more marines, saves two wounds on his carapace armour and the Champion's power fist on his refractor field before cutting down two more next turn, running them down and acting as a heroic speed bump for the pair of Khornate nutjob squads behinds them. Two turns later when my Rough Riders hit the squad, the HSO is sill alive, with one wound left and roughly two dozen kills to his credit from when he first got stuck in on turn three. Between his carapace armour and refractor field I'm fairly sure he saved upwards of ten wounds.
Recently, the luck streak continued when a lone rocket launcher marine killed a deep striking Monolith on the first turn of our Apocalypse game, forcing the Necron army to deploy 24" farther back in their zone and buying us time. A 4 followed by a 6 following by a 6. Sheer brilliance. Makes up for my inability to pass leadership checks.
