Anyone got any advice for better set ups/usage of Chaos Raptors.

Atm I'm using a 10 man squad to back up my Prince(s)(Either both Nurgle or Slaanesh/Nurgle) with 2 Meltaguns or Flamers and mark of Slaanesh, And an AC with twin Lightning claws. But I am finding that the Raptors do sweet feth all 90% of the time.

Any setups/tactics to use them better would be appreciated. Or alternatives to using them,Where would be best to spend the points.

In my Night Lord days i would take multiple smaller units. I think i would max it at 7 or so and give my AC demonic str. (old book, not sure if you can anymore) and have the unit basic with 2 CCW. If i was going tank hunting i would min/max a unit with maybe 6 and all meltas. Smaller units made it easier to maneuver and i always made my points back with change. With raptors you just need to have a set goal on whats gonna die, cause if you stick to it and aren't slowed it will.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Just use them for pure offensive, and if they get shot they get shot. Best way to use them defensively is as a forward unit tying up squads in close combat so they can't fire their weapons.

If you want to protect your princes maybe use their speed to pick their fights?

10 man squad is pretty versatile, but it's also enough points w/ the TL LC that you want to get it in combat as quickly as possible. If you want defense for your princes maybe infiltrating chosen or something in a Rhino with bolters?

Yeah,I'm thinking I'm just misusing my entire Winged Princes and Raptors group. They have a tendency to meet the best of the best of my enemies CC and get annihilated.

I've not had much luck with chosen(again probably not using em right) but might try a TS squad in a rhino driven up beside the mass airbourne assault.

Consider dropping Lightning Claws and Icon of Slaanesh for Icon of Nurgle. And don't use them to attack things like MC's.

Well, I could run some numbers for you to help you decide, but according to popular opinion, math doesn't make any difference in 40k, so why bother. So instead, I'll recount a completely unverifiable, anecdotal piece of evidence to leverage my position.

One time, I had 8 Berzerkers charge some blood claws, and all the blood claws were killed. Another time, a squad of Grey Knight Terminators charged my berzerkers in cover, and my Berzerkers killed them all. Another time, my berzerkers got shot before they could reach the enemy, and another time they won me 100 bucks because a guy didn't believe I painted them myself, and he bet against me.
See how helpful that was?

I use mine with m DP and IOK, I use 8 with 2*melta, they're best picking their own fights, or tank hunting, it depends on m mood

I loathed the old raptors, waaaay too points-sinky for my tastes. But in general assault marines bug me, so many points in a unit with T4 3+ save ...

All the same might run a 5-man raptor unit in the future, because my other FOC slots are full mostly
Was thinking about:

5 Raptors - IoCU, 2 meltaguns, AC w/ meltabombs = 150

The caveat is that they exist to forward drop a greater demon, then split off and hunt some tank. In lists with no GD I'd probably give the AC a power weapon or fist for some combat tickle, or leave as is for a tidy 150 points of tank doom.

I like the idea of Raptors as Greater Daemon drop offs. The GD isn't fast on his hoofs anymore, so he needs someone to drop him off.

Also nice to have 150 point squads that are a threat- your enemy has to shoot them, but you don't really mind if they get shot up.
Cool...
Might try something like this with my Chaos.

Tried some replacing of the Raptors with a squad in a Rhino to support my Daemon Princes. Have to say very impressed.
The squad didn't last too long(Not a major problem) and the rhino kept my Princes shot free for a turn. Next turned roared over the rhino and one annihilated a squad of genestealers(Slaaneshi Prince,Survived the rending) while the other (Nurgle Prince) nuked a Zoanthrope.
Though I could have used them better next turn(Shoulda pulled them out of LOS and moved the rhino to intercept shots from the dakkafex and dakka-tyrant) but over all good fun.

Really must try the GD deployment raptors too.

So how did the Rhino protect your Demon Prince?

Just curious.

They're both size 3. The vehicle can block line of sight.

Hehe. No it can't.

It can only block LOS if you can't actually SEE the demon prince.

Unless this is not the current GW demon prince, they can see you over the rhino and shoot you.

Just fyi. I will gladly provide rules references if needed.
