Hi there,

Anyone try using the new High Elf dragon wings for a winged hive tyrant conversion? Are they too weedy? Someone at the flgs told me they were too big but I'm guessing he meant wingspan cause they seem a little on the thin side. Maybe someone with the new dragon could pipe in with advice?

I'd like some plastic wings that are posed full spread, not like the slightly folded old dragon wings (not metal options like baalrog or bloodthirster wings). Are their any other options, maybe even toys or non-gw?

Thanks in advance!

I am also thinking of doing this. The only other choice is the common use of Balrog wings. the Balrog wings are more pointed forward, as in "about to hover" position.

Unfortunately, I haven't found just the wings on either GWs site, ebay, or any of the common bits sellers yet. I'm not sure I want to pay $45 for wings, though I suppose I could sell the rest on ebay, or make a chinese style dragon (no wings).

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

my brother made a hive tyrant from a carnosaur, nazghul wings(LOTR), the old tyrant crest (from head) and some scything talons, looked pretty cool.

I wanted a bug-like feel for my winged hive tyrant, and after some searching found the split wings of the "Seraph of Everblight", a Hordes mini. I clipped and filed off the middle "vents" on the tyrant's back and fit the wings on there, works pretty well!

I use the Balrog wings in combination with the overseer bug from mongoose plus one carnifex head. Maybe I'll get a Tyrant head if bitsorder isn't totally screwed.

Balrog wings are plastic FYI. They were metal.

I like it although it gives me the urge to go watch Grade C Japanese monster movies movies.

Actually those wings look better on the tyrant than many of the other conversions I have seen so far. Good find.

I really like the seraph wings on that tyrant, what an inspired idea. I was trying to avoid metal wings but I may go that route instead. Thanks for the idea.

Hmm I did not realize the balrog was a plastic kit. Are they sold seperate? I think I may stick with the seraph wings but i like the idea of a lighter and easily modified set of wings.

Yeah, they are sold separate. Even with the new bitz ordering.

They look pretty good. I even think the nazghul wings are the same ones.

yeah, even the metal balrog was supplied with plastic wings.

The original-original unreleased balrog had metal wings (as shown in the instructions for the first released one), this proved too difficult to put together so they moved to plastic. GW store managers were given an unreleased one that christmas (2001) and common or garden staff were given the regular one.
