... posted by Neal at the WarStore on The Miniatures Page:
Just got the word this morning
After a very successful period of producing miniatures for our award winning game A Call to Arms Mongoose Publishing is announcing today that we will cease production of this range of models with effect from March 31st 2008.
The increasing costs associated with this range means that the production of miniatures is no longer commercially viable at this time.
<snip>
We will not be discontinuing production or distribution of the rulebooks and the game will continue to be supported in Signs & Portents and by our demo team members.
The snip is my own, a sentence or two about a special offer for distributors to get a last chance buy.
I wish I had the spare capital to buy the molds, I really think this line could have been something.
Neal
Seems like their decision to use the larger sculpts instead of the Fleet Action scale has come back to haunt them.

Why am I not surprised by this ??
Sorry Mongoose, I quit.
Too many broken promises and abandoned games. They may be great with the RPGs but I enjoy miniatures games. After the Starship Troopers, Battlelefield Evolution and B-5 fiascos, I'm done.
I only take abuse from my mistress GW !!

They should go to Fleet Action scale. And make them in plastic. I would be all over that.

Well, looks like with VAS I am on the sure side with Mongoose. No minis to discontinue there....

So, when do we take bets on when the company either
a. folds or
b. goes back to producing supplements for D&D exclusively?
(by the way, since WOTC/Hasbro just started the push for 4th ed., and recalled most of the D20 licenses, do we think Mongoose will survive at all?).

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |

Yep, they should have stayed with fleet action. They are also discontinuing SST as well. No big surprise there.

Sad news but Mongoose has had quality issues from the start. They should never had tried to be a minis company. I always thought they should stick to rules that had 3rd party miniature support already. Even SST I thought should have been written specifically to use GW minis. There is nothing that is a bigger waste of time and money than to start paying/building/collecting a new miniatures line only to have to system killed.

Considering it is their most popular game it does not bode well for the company.

I have to admit, Mongoose had dissapointed me a while ago with the erratic quality of the minis and the trend to make all the new stuff both huge and lacking in detail.
I kind of hope someone else ends up grabbing the license and doing something worthwhile with it. A fleet combat game would be cool, but ACTA, while not bad, ahd some definite issues:
Fighters never 'felt' right and were constantly being tweaked.
The designers tended to do a bad job when they tried to extrapolate at either end of the timeline. (This goes back to AoG as well: the early Earth ships look so different from the Hyperions and Olympus that should be from the early era. On the other hand, the Myrmidon, which looks completely different from all Earth vessels, is all Mongoose's fault. neat ship, just should've been a League ship or something.
As mentioned, quality of minis could be poor.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy. |

Theres always the counter sheets. Good game and its a shame with the loss of the minis. The rules will still be printed though.
