I'm thinking of buying Dark Crusade. I don't have either of the other games and I was wondering if you can play all 3 campaigns if you just buy Dark Crusade. I couldn't find the answer to my question on gamespot.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, you can play it without owning the original or Winter Assault.

From the gamespot review:
you don't even need to own Dawn of War or its first expansion pack to enjoy most of this (you only need the previous games to unlock the older factions specifically for use in multiplayer matches; you have access to every race when playing solo).

Yes, but it doesn't specifically say if all 3 campaigns are playable. I know you don't need the other 2 games to play DC.

Right, sorry about that. The wikipedia entry has -

Unlike Winter Assault, Dark Crusade is a standalone expansion that does not require prior installation of Dawn of War or Winter Assault to play, allowing the user to play as all seven factions in both single player Skirmish and Campaign modes.[6]

Tho campaign modes may mean only the DC campaign, kinda vague.

On the bright side, for $10 more you can get all 3 in one pack with the game of the year edition.

No, you need the original games to play their respective campaigns; they're actually seperate, stand-alone games.

What having all three does is allow you to play as the races for that expansion in skirmish (ie, Dawn of War = Space Marines, Chaos Marines, Orks and Eldar; Winter Assault = Imperial Guard; Dark Crusade = Tau and Necrons).

So if I only buy Dark Crusade I won't be able to play single player skirmishes as any race?

Right. Buy the three pack!

No, the only thing you need the other 2 for is MULTIPLAYER skirmishes. You can do Single player skimishes with ANY race in DC.

Woops! My mistake. I've got all three, so I never noticed.

Thanks for all the help.
I'll go into the city tomorrow and see which pack to get.

I'd still get the 3-pack. It'll give you both storyline campaigns as well as the DC map campaign. So it's still useful if you don't play multiplayer. I technically have all 3, but only DC is installed on my new computer as I lost my keys for the others. No big, as I don't do multiplayer on it.

That's probably what I'll get. I'm just sadly underfunded right now so I'll have to see what is more reasonable here. Also I'd rather not have too many games to finish. We have a new semester coming up and I don't want any distractions (read not too many).

I ended up just buying Dark Crusade, because they were all out of the Anthology and to buy all 3 games would've been almost twice as much as the anthology.

I really like the gameplay and the graphics are fine. The one thing that is really bugging me is that everything's in german. It just doesn't sound right.

Now to another question: I have loads of trouble dealing with necrons. How should I take over their main province in the campaign (I'm playing Word Bearers)? I've tried once and I totally got may @ss handed to me. Any suggestions?

Wait until you take some other territories over and then buy the special "retinue" units for your army. Also, get the Warboss upgrades that increase his survivability, and he becomes an absolute monster against he Necrons early in the battle.

Thanks, I'll try that. So far I have 3 Champions and 2 Raptor Champions in my Retinue and I have the mask of Lorgrar, the torso-upgrade and the boots.

I got em on the second try. They were easy to take out with predators. I also finished the campaign.

You didn't finish the campaign, you finished a campaign. Get back in there and play the others.
