So after a number of years out of both 40K and Warhammer, probably 5 or 6 years, I got excited about squats again. They were my first army back in the early 90's.
I'm doing a Guildmaster army using the new Orks list with a KOS theme.
After digging through my boxes I found 19 bikes, 5 heavy weapon trikes [Warbuggies], 30 odd basic lead infantry, 5 exoarmor [Meganobz], 5 mole mortars [Lobbas], and some odd pirates, hearthguard, and ancestor lords. A few weeks of ebaying--ouch my wallet hurts--and I have another 8 lead infantry, 4 more bikes, and parts to finish a 6th trike.
Anyway the first task of business was to finish converting some squat power boarders I had begun a long time ago, they will count as Stormboyz. There are 10 of them, though for some reason I only uploaded full images of all of them to flickr ... DOH. There is still some work to be done on these, including some mould lines. I'm waiting for some flying bases to arrive to finish.
After that I wanted to try my hand at sculpting some arms for the plastic armed bike riders. I have never been fond of the plastic arms for bikers, they look like they are flailing around rather than riding a bike.
Then came some paint. Here is my prototype infantry scheme.
Finally here's a shot of most of what I have finished painting, including the test power boarder. I still need to figure out how to make his board less plain - maybe painting racing numbers or a flying guildmaster hammer insignia on the top?
So what do ya'll think

Very well-painted models.
If I may make a suggestion, I think the autogun barrelis too long (the one you have a close-up of). Just cut of the front part and I think it will look much better. It's not a big deal though.

Thanks, I agree the gun is a little large...but I can't bring myself to cut much on these models other than drilling out barrels....though I doubt I'll ever sell them.

Those are brilliant! Well done.
I had a squat army back in the day but the only real squat models I had were bikers, the rest were converted out of Dwarves.
I love the power boarders, and your paint scheme is fantastic. Good choice on the new ork codex to represent them too.

Lovely painting and great models for the old nostalgia trip. The hover boards are a great touch - can't wait to see more

Maybe a white racing stripe or two on the board? Could vary it from board to board, different stripes to match different designs.
Great work though, nice execution indeed.

hahah surfing squats is win. but racing stripes would be cool, or paint them like surfboars with palms trees and sunsets and such. tropical squats.

SM- Lets roll to see who goes first
Nob- Urgh...ok, I got a 6
SM- Oops, looks like I got an 8, so I go first
Nob- You got a 8 on a 6 sided die?
SM- Um, yep.
Nob- Space marines.....

I think that using squats as "counts as" orks is a great idea. I'm excited to see what you'll come up with for more vehicles (a squat deffcopter has lots of sweet possibilities). The paint is great too.
Keep posting the progress of this!

I have done some work on some Trukks, a Battlewagon, a DeffDread, and a Deffcopta. They are all real WIP and I am not happy with the Deffcopta. I'll post additional pictures soon.
Thanks for the input ya'll. I think the palm trees is a cool idea...maybe something like the WWII DAK insignia with a hammer in place of the swastika.

@The Gorgull - Don't know if you know, but back in the RTT, there were pics of Squats on hoverboards - and this is a beautiful execution of just that! Although, I agree that I think the boards need some detail work like a stripe or some flames. These guys will make a sharp-looking army - you're doing a great job of updating a very retro-looking army.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack |

they look great. i love the squat models, and really want to use them to make a guard army some day in the future. hopefully games workshop will bring back the models (and not update them, because i like the classic look too much)

awesome surfers, the boards need the aporkalypse now t-shirt design of
"Golgotha surf team,
Ghazzghull don't surf"
or perhaps on a banner given painting that on would be difficult
