Looking for an alternative giant model for my ogres, and leaning towards some kind of giant troll if possible. Any suggestions for really enormous trolls or similar brutish-but-not-demonic-or-overly-armored monsters? Preferrably that would look good painted green? Feel free to travel to other companies, I don't think I'd run a slave giant against anybody who's so uptight they'd be against non- GW stuff. Right now the Hordes Dire Troll Blitzer (sans gunner / gun) is looking nice, though I'm curious what Rackham big stuff is to be had ... - Salvage

I really like the Reaper Warlord Giant. He's not a troll or ogre, but he's a BEAST. .JPG) Plus, he's got awesome Mr. Hyde sideburns. Who doesn't love that? EDIT: otherwise, the PP Troll stuff works. Try the extreme mauler. He's pretty rad too.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.
I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |

well the best "Giant" right now is Ultraforges.
If you want a giant troll, how about the forge world 54mm scale stone troll?

@ Syr -- I remember freaking out at that XTREME dire troll when it came out, but I really don't care for it now. But that hill giant, that's really something. Found one for $15 on eBay, and considering picking the big guy up.
@ Sleazy -- Yes, Sophia's giant is definitely the best of the human giants out there, but frankly out of my painting skill range (and also budget too, despite being a bargain). And the FW troll came to mind first, but I fear is either not available or entirely too expensive
@ Anung -- Ran across that guy myself, and was pretty impressed. With all the armor and weapons I think he might make a better troll-esque ogre tyrant than a giant though ...
The troll blitzer is growing on me, and I found one for less than $28 shipped on eBay. Might grab it today, and maybe run a little building / painting log here on Dakka about it, if the warhammer-hatin' fiancee can lend me her new camera
Thanks for the ideas lads!

Ignore the ridiculous Amazon price. I found 2 at a yard sale for $4. They are about 10" tall and fit nicely on a GW base.

I second the Ultraforge giant. It is a bit pricey, but it is a gorgeous mini.

In the end I went with the dire troll blitzer, and happy I did. He's a BIG boy and makes for a very cool "slave troll"
Though I can't say I've had to do that much work building a model since, well, the khador stuff I made a few years ago. The pics don't show how I had to resculpt his upper butt, due to a massive gap back there ...
Last pic with my bruiser, Rob. Note the custom 75x50 base for the beast

a lot smaller than the GW giant but all the chains and the harness really fit in with the fluff.

Aye, I'm thrilled at the chain especially, makes for an excellent counts as in regards to the slave giant's actual attaks. And I think I prefer the slave troll's dimensions for what the model actually has stat-wise - my tyrant is T6 W5 so T5 W6 for the big boy is solid. Now just wish he had a troll's regen save - Salvage

Hehe so you needed some Crack Spackle for the big guy?
That is a pretty sweet mini and ought to look really good painted up. You ought to come over to my place and paint him, so I can put some shading on him while you are using the tiny bathroom.

Speaking of taking a pic of the troll's sculpted @$$, props to the girl for use of her new digicam. My old now-broken one could only crap out blurry eyesores, while her bling machine with its steady-cam feature is mindblowing

I love the Dire Trolls from PP, but I have a big beef with the little stones sticking out of their skin: they look awesome, but they're a PAIN to paint!

I have to say it seems more suited to be a gorger than a giant, he just does not seem very... well... giant, especially next to ogres.

Well he is bigger than every other model in my army, and as I noted he's a shrimpy T5 W6. IF the giant's stats were more like T6 W8 than I think they'd necessitate the hugantic GeeDub model and pricetag, but as it is I'm happy to kill things with a big ol' troll. - Salvage
