"Fantasy Flight Games to Exclusively Publish Board Games, Card Games, and
Roleplaying Games based on Games Workshop properties.
Second deal to include Sabertooth Games' Universal Fighting System CCG
Roseville, Minnesota (February 22, 2008) – Fantasy Flight Games (“FFG”) and Games Workshop (“GW”)
jointly announced today that they have reached an agreement for Fantasy Flight Games to become the exclusive
publisher of board games, card games (including collectible card games), and roleplaying games based on Games
Workshop’s family of renowned intellectual properties including Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer
40,000. Additionally, the deal will grant FFG the exclusive rights to publish new versions of the classic board and
card games titles published by Games Workshop over the last 25 years.
Additionally, a second agreement between the parties will transfer the publication rights and system of the
Universal Fighting System CCG, formerly published by Sabertooth Games, to FFG.
“We are just so thrilled to partner with Games Workshop in such an encompassing deal,” said Christian T. Petersen,
CEO and founder of FFG. “Not only will we be able to continue the publication of some phenomenal roleplaying,
card, and board games currently on the market, but we look forward to creating new games for the popular GW
universes!”
"In Fantasy Flight Games, we’ve found a partner who shares our passion for gaming and our dedication to
producing the highest quality products,” said Andy Jones, Head of Legal and Licensing for Games Workshop. “!e
legacy of our board, card, and roleplaying games is in the best possible hands with them, and we are extremely
excited about the prospects of seeing some fabulous new games set in our universes as well. ”
"!is is the beginning of an exciting new era for the Universal Fighting System," said Stephen Horvath, CEO of
Sabertooth Games. “Fantasy Flight Games are the perfect choice to carry on the UFS line, and fans can expect
great new content and more fantastic events supporting their favorite CCG going forward.
FFG will take over the production of Talisman, and plan to produce a new printing and expansions for the 4th
edition of this ever-popular classic board game. Further, FFG will continue production and new-product support
for the Universal Fighting System CCG, the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay RPG, and the new smash-hit Dark
Heresy RPG. More details on FFG’s publication plans for these titles will be provided in the weeks to come.
!e agreement does not include certain GW titles in which miniatures feature as the predominant component of of
the game, such as Space Hulk and Blood Bowl.
!e Universal Fighting System CCG will continue to be sold as starter and booster packs in a traditional CCG
format. FFG has no current plans to adopt the game to its LCG™ (“Living Card Game”) sales model."

YES!!! FFG is Gawd! This is some of the most uplifting news I've heard in some time. Absolutely wonderful. I love FFG and their products. They create solid rules and beautiful looking games. The fact that they will continue to support Dark Heresy is just too cool. Very good news tanker, thank you for brightening my day.

However, it will be interesting as FFG also is the maker of all the Blizzard board games. Oh well, I'm just too happy. Possibly another 40k board game? Ooooo!

Makes all that hysterical complaining about DH not being published all seem a bit pointless now doesn't it. Basically they have outsourced to some-one with better resources and who are SME's in board games etc.

Smart move. Hopefully make money out of it.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Or, another way to look at it. It's a hail mary, hoping they'll make some money out of this since they're doing [sarcasm]SO WELL[/sarcasm] with all the other stuff for a bit now.

Yep, certainly explains the reasoning behind GW's decisions about DH. Interesting, though, that the deal doesn't include Space Hulk or Blood Bowl.

I was disappointed about the Space Hulk thing. I just picked up Tannhauser mostly based on my memories of Space Hulk.

FFG have a proven record of making good games with good rules. and they make FAQ's for their games and are willing to listen to player feedback and correct issues. good move for both companies. too bad they cant hire FFG to write rules for their core games.

Ahhh, that's a relief. When I heard about Black Industries, I thought I'd lost my chance to get some really good games. This seems like a sensible move (I just wish they'd do the same thing with Specialist Games).

All I can say about the DH(by DH I meant Dark Heresy not the crap in the definition. Haha) is... SWEET!

Actually this is sort of what I thought would happen as others had also stated around various boards. GW was using DH and others in a deal to some other company and so had to announce publicly they would not be making it anymore, ect. But good news all around.

Cool. Glad to see DH getting some support in the distant future.

Considering FFG is still 2 years overdue on the Anima RPG, and their release schedule can charitably be called 'glacial', I'm not holding my breath.

Good news in regard to dark heresy.

BAD NEWS: agreement does not include certain GW titles in which miniatures feature as the predominant component of of
the game, such as Space Hulk and Blood Bowl.

Not including is bad news.

The agreement does not include certain GW titles in which miniatures feature as the predominant component of the game, such as Space Hulk and Blood Bowl that Teufelskerl and the entire rest of fandom have been demanding GW reissue for years now. GW was quoted as saying, "Ha-ha! Suck it Fanboys! You ain't never gonna get a new Space Hulk!"

Sorry, had to correct that quote there....

This is great news. I just bought Dark Heresy and even though I consider RPG's lower on the geek scale than miniatures gaming, I really want to play. Great to know that there will be more than just the first two books.

I'm hoping they make a Dark Heresy Board Game.

I bought Decent and Doom just for the miniatures. If they make anything 40K related, with their usual quality figures, I'll be all over it.

Wow, I have to say this is good news.

I only have a handful of fantasy flight games, but I have been universally impressed by their production quality and game mechanics. Arkham Horror is probably one of my very favorite games and it packs a ton of detail into a very simple game mechanic.

Here's hoping that it's a fruitful colloabaration for both parties.

I honestly think that GW could learn tons from a company that produces multiple games, each with it's own rules system. It's easy to think one-dimensionally when you have such a monolithic game with one rules system. Hopefully their will be some trickle-down influence from the folks at FF.

Sweet, Dark Herecy will get more love... well I hope so anyways.

Looking at the FFG RPG linup I see alot of D20 games, I sure hope they have not decided to revamp it to D20...

Bad assumption.

The week of its release GW announced the game was dead and would get no support, prompting people to either give up on it or buy it in a panic thinking it would never be reprinted.

Then a month later they announce a new partner is supporting it.

Now maybe the deal with FFG was already in the cards, in which case why announce the game's dead? If the deal wasn't finalizsed GW could have stayed quiet, no announced the game was dead, and avoided ill will from fans and retailers.

The way this was handled inplies to me it that the whinning and moaning DID work, either convincing FFG to pick up the game or convincing GW to licence it.

Nothing else makes sense.

I agree, Carman. When I first saw this, I was hoping for some new space hulk stuff, but that seems to be shattered as soon as hope appeared.

I will say that giving FFG the boardgame and RPG license makes sense.

Fury of Dracula (an old GW game) is doing quite well under FFG's banner. Good price, nice box, improved graphics, nice game.
Hopefully we will see some of the older good GW board games come out soon, such as Doom of the Eldar for instance.

I also agree with this as well. Arkham horror is an absolutely great game, they made it actually work quite well when compared to how it used to be. Granted it took awhile to get the rules down, but it is my all time fav board game.

This is GW getting out of the sideshow business, and pulling much needed assets back to the main company. Sabertooth, BL, etc. are probibly getting cut like the fat kids from the dodgeball team to trim the upkeep costs, personnel, etc. so GW can continue to put much needed cashflow into something more importiant, such as more LOTR armies that not as many people are interested in.
With the upcoming new and improved version, they are gettting ready for the inevitable sell off for the forclosure sale. No reason to have all of the excess when a takeover bid, public auction, or Chapter 13 is initiated.
