How well could this general list work for 2k pts:
inquisitor Lord
GK Hero
4 teams of 5 GK with 2 Psycannons in each squad
4 Land Raiders
auspexes for any infiltrating nasties with anti-tank
just sit back with 36'' Psycannons and longer range lascannons
arrange GK around the Land Raiders

You're talking about a gunline with 8 Psycannons and 8 Lascannons at 2,000 points. Putting aside how ineffective that volume of fire is at that points level, it has 25 infantry and 4 vehicles. I just don't think the Daemonhunters list will do well as a gunline. Certainly it won't if half of its points are put into assault transports like the landraider.

Yea man, I am pretty certain my 2k Sisters can put out enough fire power to drop 20 suits of power armor in one turn, maybe two, and they really are not optimized or possessed of much long range shooting.
You might consider trading in a landraider for a pair of Predators.

I presume the idea is to largely capitalize on the shrouding and make them come to you. I like the idea in theory, but once a firer is within 24", the shrouding isn't going to help and the body count is just too low. I guess you could pile in the LRs at that point and go forward blowing smoke for a turn 4ish charge.
It doesn't seem horrible to me, and it'll throw a few armies for a loop. Though any list with good speed is not going to care much.

I'll mostly be playing it for the fun of having 4 av14 vehicles. If i can kill all or most of the stuff that could hurt the raiders, i could put everyone in them then run around with impunity and laugh at their strength-not-enough weapons.

Ditch the Inquisitor. Ditch the psycannons, but give one to your HQ Brother-Captain. Ditch one of the land raiders. Use the points saved to bulk-up your squads of Power Armoured Grey Knights to six men and give them an incinerator and meltabombs for each squad. Try to psy-cannon bolts. You now have a very flexible force, able to adapt to nearly any enemy or tactic thrown at you.
And you have a lot of AV14 vehicles.
It's a tricky army to play, but it can be made to work, if you practice enough and think hard during the game. I recommend this tactica.

Now here's a little subsidiary question. The crew of the Inquisitor's land raider are space marines. If you've got 'Allied Space Marines' in a Daemonhunters force, you cannot have Grey Knights. Is the Inquisitor's transport allied Space Marines? If so, is this an illegal list?
This restriction is found on page 30 of the codex, under Allied Units. The crew of the Land raider is detailed on the same page, under transport options.

Much more focused. I assume you'll be using the land raiders to tank shock and line people up for the flamers? Now the interpretation that might allow the Inq's landraider is that he isn't in the "Allies" section. And Grey Knights do work with Space Marines, just not the allied versions. That's really up to you, odds are very good that no one will know the codex well enough to wonder about it, or even call you on it. I personally have no idea whether the designers intended you to be able to take 4 landraiders or not.

Your inq lord's retinue is a mix of short-ranged move-or-fire and rapid fire assault weapons. This is 'bad'.
It's also alot of points without a lot of 'do'.

Inquisitors can take Land Raiders as transport options, so it works out. They are driven by Adeptus Mechanicus or something in that case, if I recall.

good old way of the water warrior article. that stuff on beatdown vs. control is very good advice for any army.
it really describes what makes me so fond of necrons as well. some find them boring because there isn't that much list variation, but once the game starts they have more options than almost anybody.
