Anybody else extremely excited about mechanicum? McNeil's last book was excellent (Fulgrim), so I cant wait to see how this one, with a much more interesting subject matter, turns out!

Skip Descent of Angels- you won't regret it. The rest of the series is alright, with the Dan Abnett book and Fulgrim being the two best books so far IMO.

On a tangential note, for those interested in Mechanicus fluff the novel Dark Apostle has some goo scenes of the Tech Guard in action, Mechanicus war machines, and Mechanicus psychology/motivation. No doubt the HH book will have much more of this, but Dark Apostle is already out (and a good read on it's own).

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Okay, I'm used to a lot of alternate spellings of Queen's English vs. U.S. English, but seriously, is "Instalment" spelled correctly in England? Dude, the BL editors are slackers.

Allow me to sum up the series so far, prior to the DoA of course. You are riding along on your bike in a race, against a sibling, and are suddenly winning! How great it feels to be doing such a feat; how awesome it is. Here comes the next ninth mile stretch of the race, and you bolt of into it. Only to be hit by a car, out of no where....

Half of me expected DoA to follow the story of the heresy. It went in a completely different direction. *No desire to spoil the ending for others* Also, might I add that I've heard fluff around the matter of the DA that doesn't really go along with this author's interpretation/writing.

One final rant, on this author. Anyone read 15 hours? Interesting story, couldn't put the book down, nor could the same author stay on subject; or really include side stories that somehow never advanced the main story. Might I include that he never really made a decent transition into them...

Ok, done ranting....

The book on the mechanicam looks awesome! I'm excited to read of the war between Mars and Terra.

I have to agree.. Decent of Angles was kind of a waste. It really didn’t flow with the heresy series. It was basically a slow documentation of the early Dark Angels. I hope they include a follow-up. There are some great opportunities to see how the early Dark Angels fit into everything. Including the story of Lion El’ Johnson knocking out Leman Russ. Plus the eventual destruction of Caliban and split of the Dark Angels, the watchers, and Cypher. (Note: All of this is in various sources such as Dark Angel codices etc. and doesn’t spoil the Decent of Angels).

I’m looking forward to the Mechanicum. The Omnisiah is possibly the Void Dragon, the Emperor, or some other entity. He might be artificial intelligence itself. But I hope that it’s at least hinted at.

It has been a welcome addition of depth to the Heresy era and as such the whole world of 40 - It's not all spectacular though, I do wish they'd put more effort on quality over quantity, but the good ones are really good and it feels awesome to finally "witness" these key moments in the 40k "history".

Actually, I just finished reading Fifteen Hours just a few minutes ago. I was pretty disappointed. After plowing through a bunch of Abnett's books recently, Fifteen Hours seemed pretty hack.

Continuing to go widely off topic, my problems with Descent of Angels are largely suspension-of-disbelief-straining convenient plot holes and deus ex machina conflict resolution. It's also the first serious insight into librarians and the use/knowledge of the Warp by the Imperium pre-heresy, and I think it's not handled well. I saw a whole thread in Discussions where HBMC complains about this much more eloquently (and lengthily) than I can at the moment.

Really "meh" compared to the Abnett stuff or Fulgrim, manily. I struggle through lots of bad BL fiction to get fluff, though. I just mucked through Warrior Brood, another installmet in the "Emo Marines Unable to Vary From Stereotype" thriller series. It was kind of torturous, but had Deathwatch stuff and Nids, so whatever. I'll read the next one because it has Eldar. Hell, I'll read anything with Eldar in it.

Speaking of which (and continuing to diverge into tangents), were there ever any sequels to Farseer that got published before William King left BL? I seem to recall at least a teaser for one, but can't find anything on it now. A shame really, as that one was decent if pulpy, and had a bit of good Eldar perspective. Anyone have info on that sequel?

decent of angels was plain meh - at first seemed like it had the wrong cover, it's so different from the rest of the series. Am reading legion now, it's good and mysterious so far (only a few chapters in) but hasn't seemed to grip me at the moment, could be due to a very busy week distracting me though.

As for 15 hours, i liked it. I'd agree it's a bit of a minute by minute type book without a whole lot happening but i like the insight into a day in the life of a guard who noone really cares about. Typical imperium. If anything was 'wrong' with it I'd say it went a bit too far up the chain of command, I would have like it to stick more to the 'average guardman' ather than one getting cuagth up in bigger things. e.g. he could not understand what a bombardment is the first time and be confused what's going on - if you look at books like the uplifting prima you get the idea the troops are taught propaganda rather than any serious battle information - if you're sucked out of a hull breach hold your breath and swim backm, that sort of idiocy.

The next too HH books look sweet, especially mechanicus!

Never want to upset Beef, But I have to say...

Amy Winehouse=SW. 'Nuff Said.

The series is good for as heap of reasons, the least of which is the rich background it gives to the Primarchs.

I would love to read a series on the Empie's first Crusade, looking for them and 'bending' them to his will.

Failing that, a story on the Empie's rise to power.

Can you say 'Mein Kampf"?

@ Skullspliter888, you go to far. Russ was not of that lineup. Magnus with his all seeing eye did not just look into the emperiam but also into mens shower rooms.

And how does Amy Winehouse=SW? Ok she looks a bit ruff now but there was a time when she looked quite well fed.
