Has anybody ever built a valk from scratch? If so, pics would be cool to see along with where you got your plans and the like, so... lets se the valks !( or other imperial flyers)

With the success of my Thunderbolts, I've been considering it, but as I'm not planning on playing Drop Troops in the immediate future, it's dropped lower on my priority build list.

This guy over on the WorkInProgree forums did.

Here's the link http://z11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php?showtopic=9996

Me, I'm working on a baneblade built from the old WD plans (WD55) and a Thunderhawk for my marines.

Wow, those are sweet. He even did the recessed rivets. His turbofans are sharp and look at the detail on the landing gear!

I'm a little confused though, as it looks like he's doing a detailed cockpit, but he's painted over the clear plastic panels of the canopy.

I'm going to wait for GW to make a nice plastic model kit!

Hmmm... what do you suppose those price ranges will be?

I am guessing that the clear plastic isnt on atm, but he masked the windows from the inside - that way there isnt going to be anything but painted surface showing trough the clear parts.
Atleast that is what I think he has done - Im an aspiring airbrusher and thats what I would have done.

Anyways, Im pretty sure that you could pull off a valkyrie DbM, since those T-bolts ya done look so much like the original model.
I couldnt do a replica of any model, let alone something that complex, since measuring isnt my bag of chips - looking at your T-bolts id say you are pretty good at mocking up a model and then replicating it. I could maybe build one model that doesnt really look like a replica of anything, but I sure as hell couldnt backtrack what ive done!

Anyhow, Im a big fan of the valkyrie since it resembles the coolest warmachine ever built - Mi-24 (Hind)
If you are to believe all rumours about 40k and what IG might receive, I might have to make a version of valkyrie to my Squats, but prolly would make it alot different - alot more like the Hind!

You're makin' me blush, Innom. While I could probably build a Valkyrie, the only reason I could do it is thanks to the friendly folks at BWC Archives who've gone before me and made their own templates for me to follow. I just follow the directions. I'd like to eventually get to the point where I could mock up a model and then make a template (I've got ideas for a 40K-esque P-38 Lightning that I'd like to eventually make to use the IA Lightning rules), but I think that's a ways off yet.

As far as the price range goes, I'd imagine it'd probably be on the order of $55-$65 just because of the size. I mean, the FW model is bigger than a Land Raider, so it'll be more than that.

I'm guessing the clear plastic is just masked over with tape. It's pretty obvious he's airbrushing the camo paint onto it. It's a standard painting trick if you're airbrushing.

I agree with the price, because of how GW prices things. A plastic Valkyrie would probably be a Fast option or an upgrade to Elite Storms. So you wouldn't typically see more than 3 in an army. So if the usage count is like a Defiler / Land Raider, then the price will be like a Defiler / Land Raider.
