Friend of mine is working on a Witch Hunters army and isn't sure what to take for an HQ or how to gear it up. He'd like to do an Inquisitor Lord, but doesn't know about gear and henchmen and such. Any suggestions for him?

When I do a WH Inquisitor Lord, I generally go heavy on pyschic powers, and minimize just about everything else. I usually take two sisters hospitaller (just in case I have a POTW attack), and a familiar for retinue, liber heresius for wargear, and bp/ccw for weapons. For psychic powers, I normally take word of the emperor (think that's the one that makes the target unit take a morale test with a negative modifier of the difference between the unit's Ld and the Inquisitor's) and purgatus.

Combined with a vindicare (to lower the Ld of target squads), it makes for an interesting synergy. I often take that combination allied to another imperial list.

A Canoness with a jump pack and a fancy sword of some sort makes an excellent complement to a squad of Seraphim. Attach the Canoness to the Seraphim and hop them up the board. Split the Canoness off from the squad before they charge different units. The Canoness is really hard to kill, but once she does die, you get extra Faith Points! Yay!

There are two kind of "default" WH HQs. You are free to put variances on them, of course.

Flying Nun: Canoness - Blessed Weapon/Bolt Pistol, Frag Grenades, Book of St Lucius, Jump Pack, Cloak of St Aspira - 122 pts
She is deadly vs troops, can get a 2+ Inv save, and can even hold up some of the most expensive/killy units in the game. Additionally, she gives everyone within 6" unmodifiable Ld 10.

"Shooty" Inq: Inq Lord - Carapace Armour, Bolter, Auspex w/ 1 Acolyte (Carapace Armour, Bolter), 2 Chirurgeons, 3 Gun Servitors (Heavy Bolters) - 168 pts
This a gun unit that can be placed after most of your opponent's army is down. The Lord is given Carapace so that he is in the majority save and can take (and then ignore) wounds. You can do the same thing with an Elite Inq too, for 30 fewer points. Can give a Chimera for additional fire support if you like. Allows you to take Assassins.

That's a nice setup. The Lord can take Psychic powers too.

And a Psychic Hood, and a Liber Heresius, and even more Acolytes (to extend the units life). I just listed the most basic variant.

If you take the Elite Inquisitor, you don't need to spend the points on Carapace, since he comes stock with 4+.
One fun thing I do is us a Plasma Cannon servitor with 2 Sages for the reroll. I haven't baked off the servitor yet, but I suspect that day is not far off, and I will enjoy that juicy reroll

I usually pack an inferno pistol on my cannoness as well. She makes for a really strong vehicle killer that way.

If you're doing that, throw in Melta-Bombs, too. That way if she fails with the Inferno Pistol, she can always charge and chuck a Melta-Bomb at 'em.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Best Inquisitor HQ for a WH army is just a Hereticus Lord w/3 Familiars, the Liber Heresius, and if you want to be a real bastard, a Psychic Hood.

You get to pick your table edge most of the time, you're worth virtually no VP's if killed, and you can hide in a corner and use that Ld10 Hood to annoy your opponents.

Meh.

Meltabombs are just a 5-point afterthought. An Eviscerator, with the Inferno Pistol, means you can't take any other weapons.

Why would you need to take other weapons? An Evis (with MC if you have points to burn) is all you will ever need.
