You know, unless you are looking for tourney worthiness, you could always use the Sorcha Kratikoff model from Privateer Press. There's even a couple of poses. Wait, is she even the same scale? I dunno... but you could check it out

Somehow, I am not entirely certain that the GW sculptors are familier with women. They make terribly few, and they don't often seem very feminine.
I rush to say that I certainly couldn't do better, and that a few are ok, but it always seems that their females are men with longer hair, and maybe fun bags. Maybe it is just due to how old most of their females are, and thus they have not benefitted from advances in mini production. I don't know, it just makes me sad sometimes that "Wow, your Sisters of Battle don't look like transvestites! Great job!" is a serious, and common, compliment I receive.

PP figs are a tad out of scale (taller by a few mm) and a very different aesthetic (differently distorted ). While I do use some Reaper and GW figs for my PP armies (mosty Kislevites for my Khador and Werner Klocke sculpts, because WK sculpts are universal), but I don't tend to go the other direction (i.e. PP models in my GW armies).

As to making good female models: I've found the fantasy line does a better job of depicting women (especially the Bretonnians, current Wood Elves and Lucricia Belladonna) than 40k, but there are some decent nuggets (the female last chancer, for example). Generally speaking, though, MANY minis companies/games/sculptors have a hard time with women. Werner Klocke, Kev White (Hasslefree), and Mark Copplestone seem to do a better job than most (though again, Werner's figs all seem to look the same). Mike Owen does a pretty good job as well (check out the Artizan line). But PP's girls are often just as disproportionately barbie-tarted as GWs (or Rackham, for that matter), and there are plenty of female figs with man faces out there. It IS a bummer that they never made a female cadian, though. Did the Perrys ever do girl figs (e.g. when they were at Foundry)? I don't think I've ever seen one...

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Man, do I hate that model. I mean, beyond the Priscilla Queen of the Desert facial features, the pose is terrible. I can't help but think this is the same less-talented sculptor who did the old DE sorceress. Same flat pose, same huge shoulderpads making the neck and head look wierd, same awkward chest, same mannish face. Eeeyick.

And yeah, those toes are goners.

On a good note, I really loved the female Tanith mini. The female Elves are often pretty good too. Except the Dark Eldar of course, but the male DEs all look similarly crap, so it's not a gender thing there. Lelith being the exception on both counts.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Then there is the Female catachan grenade launcher toting guards...shewoman.

As for a female commisar, I took off the pistol and put in a boltpistol.

Best thing that you can do is to use the other females of the range and scrap something together. Greenstuff, maybe some of Dr Pepper's female Cadians, and then go ahead and set something up.

That commisar is a bit meh except for it being the only female one. I don't think they fit very well into the fluff though, I thought that the commisar's were supposed to have been stormtroopers, or orphined hero kidz or something.

I'd rather be using the new ones, or the other commisar guys. There is quite an assortment, even with the female weaksauce sculpt.

For a female Commisar, you could always try to track down one of the Adepticon 2006 Ltd. Edition minis, "the Kommandant" scuplted by Jen Haley. See here.

Now that actually looks like a woman. Is Jennifer Haley the multi-golden demon winner or am I thinking of someone else?

It's a nice model, but I'd have trouble using that as a Commissar seeing as how she's smiling, and it's not even an evil smirk or anything. Maybe if you replace the head with a Marine Sgt head it would work.

Today I didn't even have to use my hot-shot las; I gotta say it was a good day.

i'm a little late comin' in on this discussion, since i usually only check the news and paintin' threads...

just want to say, that this is a very early chris fitzpatrick sculpt, so we can forgive him for it's craptackular result...he redeemed himself with the dark eldar wytches(sp?), and his his witch elves...this lady commissar is cool just for her collectable status...

the female catachan with grenade launcher has one of the ugliest faces i have ever painted...i'll snap some pics soon...

jen's kommandant is a lovely mini, but i've been tryin' to get my hands on her for a couple years with no success yet...

cheers

I don't even KNOW anymore.

Any of these do it for you?

Look under "Politburo Elite Guard"

No long coats though - SF used to have a decent looking Commissar with a trenchcoat, but I think she's OOP.
