Subject: Iyanden Tyranid Hunters?

So...... I recently blagged quite a bit of Eldar goodies via some lucky ebay bids and a generous friend.
I used to play Eldar back in RT, by the time 3rd ed rolled around I was almost exclusively a pointy ear.
Anyway... I havent painted or played Eldar since mid 3rd when I ditched my then army (Samm Hain) for the call of the Imperial Guard.
Since then I've used pretty much every race going and most variants and find myself again with an Eldar army to build. Thing is, a generic army (or any of the usual craftworld styles) doesnt thrill me much, I'm very much "meh" about them now so I tried to think of a flavour or theme to give my Eldar to inspire me again.
After considering Space Elf Pirates (a flashback to RT) I struck upon Iyanden. Now every time I've seen Iyanden its always the ghost warrior army but thats only extremely recent from the Eldar point of view.
So how about an army themed around the war with Hive-Fleet Kraken? It would feature more guardians than usual as the whole craftworld fights for survival and I could theme Tyranid Hunters and bases around a 'nid invasion.
Thoughts? Ideas?
Would "Tyranid Hunters" really be a style the (albiet desperate) Eldar would use? (I'm planning to make up guardian storm squads as these).
Any comments or tips would be greatly appreciated.... I can feel an old passion returning....

That would work fluffwise. The problem is that gameplay-wise, you'd be left with an army totally unsuited to fighting Tyranid armies as they are currently played, since SGs are pretty bad against pretty much anything you'd encounter. Maybe if you put all the Stormies in Serpents it could work, but I don't know if it would capture that desparate-last-stand flavour you're after.

meh, I dont care about the army being competative, I only play once in a while, if i want to win I have loadsa armies capable of doing that.
I'm not planning on serpents or falcons, I'm gonna have air support though as the fluff talks about Yriels corsairs saving the day.

Well, if it doesn't bother you that your Tyranid hunting army will be horrendous at hunting Tyranids, more power to you, I guess.

Well, nobody ever said they were any good at it - Iyanden did nearly get wiped out in the process afterall, so maybe it's fluffy that way. Bravely sending wave after wave of storm guardians against the hordes of advancing genestealers would certainly explain all the ghost warriors in the "modern" list.

You could really gear up your stormies and use them "counts as" Harlies. That's what I do, because I really, really, really hate the space clown concept.
And regular Guardians with scatterlasers alongside Wraithlords and the Avatar (with flavor units of Wraithguard thrown in, but they're dead weight vs. 'Nids mostly) with Scoripions as countercharge is actually a fairly viable anti-Nid army. Switching in Harlie substitutes isn't too bad either, but Scorpions are the best anti-horde choice, while the big boys fight the Tyrant, etc.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!
