So here is an attempt at a 1.5k list. I've been playing guard for a while at 1k and from the things I've observed is that HWT platoons are very useful but sometimes need help setting up in the best places, I need a unit that can threaten to hold and area, and that russes are very nice. I'm up for any suggestions other than the setup on my tanks because I've already got them built and don't feel like changing/remodeling them.

Light Infantry
Drop Troops
Iron Discipline
Close Order Drill
Stormtroopers

HQ
Junior Officer w/ Iron Discipline
Veteran w/ Banner

Anti-Tank Support Squad 1 w/ Lascannons
Anti-Tank Support Squad 2 Lascannons
Fire Support Squad 1 Autocannons
Fire Support Squad 2 Autocannons
Light Infantry for HWTs

Basic HQ platoon squad with a banner to re-roll and lots of HWTs for firepower. I like the idea of light infantry on the squads so that they can deploy last and can be put in the best firing lanes/cover that may be just outside the deployment zone or anything.

Elite
Storm Trooper Squad
Stormtroopers w/ 7 men and 2 plasmas
Veteran Sergeant w/ Power Weapon
Infiltrate

This squad is going to be used to be anti-inflitrator/harrasser/objective holder. Since I have no transport my army is going to be pretty slow. This guys can setup at or at least near objectives and threaten to hold them or setup on a flank and force movement one direction. They are a bit more survivable from both gunfire and CC than hardened vets but with a vet squad I could put an extra SW and a PF if I wanted.

Troops
Junior officer w/ Iron Disciple
Infantry Squad 1 w/ plas/HB
Infantry Squad 2 w/ plas/HB

Junior officer w/ Iron Disciple
Infantry Squad 1 w/ plas/HB
Infantry Squad 2 w/ plas/HB

Infantry platoons with HB to make sure they are shooting at infantry and plasma to deal with those pesky marines running around everywhere

Heavy Support
Leman Russ Battle Tank w/ hull lascannon, extra armor
Lemon Russ Demolisher w/ Hull bolter, sponson PCs, Extra armor
Basilisk w/ Indirect Fire

Standard tank setup w/ possibly abnormal side weapons but it has served well for me because it allows the tanks to still perform the function I need when their battle cannons get blasted.

Grand Total - 1500

There it is, I think it has an ample amount of firepower but may be lacking on warm bodies. I've found in most cases I just wish I had more guns than I wish I had more bodies so this list reflects that. Anyway, let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Your heavy weapon teams in the HQ MUST take three heavy weapons. That will change points quite a bit.

I'm not a fan of storm troopers...if you want to counter infiltrators, you've already got some infiltrating units, so you should be able to push them back. The only thing they'll get in melee with is a dedicated melee unit, and those will still kill them.

The biggest question I have is the purpose of infiltrate on you HW teams? If you try to get them scattered around the board, they won't have any leadership to help them fight because none of your officers have LI. They aren't a heavy support choice, so they should deploy fairly late in the deployment stage, so you don't need to worry about giving away their position.

with what grimaldi said, maybe you can get rid of the light infantry for all your heavy weap teams (x points), then also kill a autocannon squad (x) leaving you with x points. In total, these x amount of points can buy you two more squads of guardsmen, and by getting rid of the extra armour on your demolisher (its got pretty good stats) you could fit in another two heavy bolters as a sit back and shoot squad, with the option of having your HB/Plas squads running around capturing objectives and what not...

just a thought but chances are it wont work out for what models you have, but reflecting on your comment of 'lacking on warm bodies'

@ Grimaldi - Sorry for my formatting but those squads do have 3 things in them so my points are still correct. I was just labeling them as 'squad 1' of the lascannons and such. As for the storm troopers, do you have any suggestions as a way to pose a threat in objective based missions where I'd rather not have my guys moving all the time to reach it? I like having something that can deploy on a flank or up a little bit to hopefully persuade them to move in a fashion I want in non-objective games as well.

The purpose of the infiltrate on the HW teams is 3 fold... 1) setup last 2) allow me the best spots that might be just outside my deployment zone that i've very often found i need to spend the first turn moving them into 3) push back other infiltrators i suppose

@person - That sounds like a pretty good idea and I'm willing to spend more money on whatever models I need. Just not changing my already created models which doesn't include all of the HWTs. My only concern would be if dropping the autocannons leaves me too vulnerable to the mass amount of light vehicles running around or just short me on firepower in general?

You can always infiltrate a whole platoon of line troops if you're worried about objectives and such using light infantry. Odds are good they'll be in cover, so their save should be comparable to storm troops, and they're substantially cheaper, so you'll get more.

Or, you can use vets. Still cheaper, cover gives them the save, and they get the better BS and more weapons.

Hmm... I could drop the light infantry and get a tricked out vets squad with a PF for popping some marines if they feel like assaulting is a good idea. That could also fix the slight problem i have of having absolutely no assault/counter assaulting capability.

well you could always then with my idea drop a squad of guardsmen and add autocannons in your infantry command and command squad? like..

Light Infantry
Drop Troops
Iron Discipline
Close Order Drill
Stormtroopers

HQ
Junior Officer w/ Iron Discipline
Veteran w/ Banner
Autocannon
[81]

Anti-Tank Support Squad 1 w/ Lascannons
Anti-Tank Support Squad 2 Lascannons
Fire Support Squad 1 Autocannons
[315]

Elite
Storm Trooper Squad
Stormtroopers w/ 7 men and 2 plasmas
Veteran Sergeant w/ Power Weapon
Infiltrate
[131]

Troops
Junior officer w/ Iron Discipline
autocannon
Infantry Squad 1 w/ plas/HB
Infantry Squad 2 w/ plas/HB
Infantry Squad 3 w/ HB or plas
[290]

Junior officer w/ Iron Discipline
autocannon
Infantry Squad 1 w/ plas/HB
Infantry Squad 2 w/ plas/HB
[220]

Heavy Support
Leman Russ Battle Tank w/ hull lascannon, extra armor
[160]
Lemon Russ Demolisher w/ Hull bolter, sponson PCs,
[175]
Basilisk w/ Indirect Fire
[125]

total - 1497 - add frags or searchlight

here you have the security of 6 autocannons, 6 lascannons, 4/5 (6/7 with hull HBs) heavy bolters, a battle cannon, a demolisher cannon, earthshaker cannon and about 60 lasguns and two plasma cannons and about 6/7 plasma guns. Lots of guys, lots of guns, enough tanks and your three autocannons back

enjoi

That sounds like a pretty good idea to me. I'll try to scramble and get the models all together so I can play test it and see how it all works out. Thank for the help guys

Oh boy.

IG don't do assault with power weapons. Don't try.

Heavy Bolters are bad. Pay for the autocannons.

Demolisher with sponson PCs...is amusing. You know you can't fire the DC and the PC, right? And the PC isn't scary since you'll only hit with 1? For alot less points, 3 heavy bolters will do the same trick.

I don't know what the elite stormtrooper unit is gonna do, other than get laughed at and killed. :(

Not a very good list overall. Sounds good, won't do much for you.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

4 Heavy Weapon units at 1500? That's far too many.

A full-sized squad of Stormies infiltrating? Talk about free VP's...

Only 4 squads of men at 1500 points (maybe at 1000 points, yes)... and between them not a single weapon above S7.

A Russ with a Hull Weapon it'll never fire?

Plasma Cannons don't work in 4th Ed. Don't bother.

We can help you with this list, but you have to be willing to be helped.
