Yep, sigmound is my nether horse to save my digital legs, plus the speed beacon only goes out so far.

Oh.. Now that is possible, and pretty easy job to do and repair.
The wound of horses burning alive is hardly fun.

Thanks.

Portals now DO take into account altitude- it's not divided by 8 like the other coords, but the y is now seen.

Can anyone recommend the best way to install Minecraft on an 8Gb Windows 10 laptop?

My girlfriend is asking advice on how to get Minecraft for her daughter but its been a very long time since I first bought and installed the game myself (way back in Beta before Microsoft. My Desktop still runs Windows 7, and the Java version of Minecraft) so I imagine things have changed quite a lot.

I gather that there are different versions on PC, a Windows 10 port of the Pocket Version, and the old school Java version which I have? Which would you recommend for a Windows 10 8Gb laptop?

My girlfriend is not very good with computers by her own admission, and I'm not familiar with the Windows 10 OS and interface having never used it myself. Whats the easiest way?

Can it be played through the Windows Live / Xbox Live platform on PC?

AFaik, there's only two main versions- the Java version, and the, uh, 'Bedrock' version (I think?) There's some slight differences between them, but Microsoft and Mojang are working to get them either as similar as possible, or to be the same kind.

The non-PC version, I think, might not have full open worlds, but rather be a little closer to the old-school Creative chunk style game.

If I remember correctly, the Minecraft specific to Windows 10 can be cross played with the Xbone version.Otherwise regular minecraft will work just fine, I have Windows 10, and didn't do anything special to install or run it.

Non PC has tighter world borders far as I know. Not like the 30 million java borders which vast vast majority never get near.

I've tinkered with the portal somewhat and still horse a que...

I think I'm going to have to build a giant spiral Staircase up to maintain siting for portal.

Anyone seen parrots spawn yet, or are they not yet in?

Good faith is a prerequisite for civility. In its absence, "Go Feth Yourself" is not only an acceptable response, it is the only appropriate response and, really, the only possible response. Social media isn’t characterized by rampant incivility because people have bad manners. It looks like that because epidemic bad faith makes nicer manners impossible. So stop arguing in bad faith, or don't be surprised when people tell you to go feth yourself.

I've heard that Mods are not available on the Windows 10 Edition, only Java. Is that true? Will Mods eventually be coming to Windows 10?

not sure, does not help all mods, and mod packs seemt o all be coded to older Java versions.
would require the depvelopment of a whole new "infrastructure" to do so

Besides Cross-platform play with Xbox (which my girlfriend's daughter is apparently not interested in, she just wants to play Solo), is there any other advantage of the Windows 10 Edition over the Java Edition?

Does it have better performance? Is it less demanding on PC specs? She's using a Windows 10 Laptop with 8Gb RAM.

Well, three or four years clean and I've relapsed.

Got a new laptop, so I should be on relatively regularly now. What have I missed?

Are they already in the game??

I've heard that owners of MC Java (i.e. me) can upgrade to MC Windows 10 for free.

Is that just for players who already own MC Java, or if I tell my girlfriend to get MC Java now will she also be upgrade to Windows 10 for free later on?

I think I'm going to download Minecraft Java to my girlfriend's daughter's laptop using my own Minecraft account to test out the performance on her laptop. If the Java edition runs well on her laptop, then I'll advise my girlfriend to get Java, with it being cheaper and having more features, Mods, access to more Multiplayer servers (such as famous Youtubers) and more regular updates.

If it doesn't run well, then I'll tell her to get Windows 10.

yeah,it may change but right now Java has had all updates faster, been more advanced and gained new mobs earlier.
Its not always perfectly reliable as these updates end up teasted on Java but bonus being cheaper

Her daughter apparently is not interested in playing with friends, she just wants to play Solo. So cross-play with Xbox and other Windows platforms is not an issue.

well go Java then, i mean if that changes there may be options to upgrade to windows 10 in futture if corss play becomes a big thing.
Java is best for solo as you get the largest maps, the most up-to-date biomes and mods.

Oh, I hear that Minecraft now has its own self contained version of Java? Does that mean we won't have to download and install Java seperately?
