Has anybody seen this http://z11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php?showtopic=2185http://z11.invisionfree.com/Work_In_Progress/index.php?showtopic=2185 before?

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Yeah, saw that a couple of months ago. The paint job is lacking because of all the work put into lighting the army though.

Seen it before. Astonishing.

And if the painting was a little off, I'm sure most people wouldn't notice as they'd be blown away by the fact that all his models light up!

Yeah, but if I did that much to my models I'd do more than dip them in silver paint, like that guy did.

The overall effect is amazing, I especially like the destroyers with lit exhaust ports and multi-colored headgear. The Fire Warrior later in the thread looks great too.

I just dread the $60 worth of watch batteries he'd have to buy every time a new tournament rolls around. Although he admittedly doesn't actually play, dodged a bullet there!

Yeah, the lights are cool, but unless you're playing in the dark, I imagine the novelty wears off pretty quick and your stuck looking at that paint job the rest of the time.

He's going to sell the army anyway. The new owner can paint those Necrons however he likes.

How cool would it have been if instead of painting the crystal rods black, he ran more of the lights them em?

I'd seen the Necrons before, but not that Tau Fire Warrior- sweet.

I put a blinking red light inside the sensor-looking thing on the right glacis of my LR Prometheus, but even that minor project took longer than I'd expected. I can't imagine lighting an entire army.

He must be from Sparta because, THAT WAS MADNESS!!!

I think he was intentionally going for a chrome finish so the lights would reflect off the finish. It would have been nice though if he spant a bit more attention when painting thier guns.

He said the Flayed Ones weren't painted yet. Personally, I thought they look kind of cool with their faces blacked out around the lights like that.

On a separate note, assuming minimal basing, I wonder how these would score on appearance at a GT?

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

They are really cool though. Definitely has that "Terminator" feel. And the Fire Warrior is sweet, too.

I'm not really sure, what do they use to judge appearance at a GT, paint and basing? I'm not sure as to whether they would take electronic capability into appearance or not. I mean, I'm not knocking this guy in the least for lighting models, I'd love to do that to the burnas of my burna boyz, chrome is just a weird paint scheme to me.

They judge how nice/cool/impressive looking the army is. Generally speaking, this comes down to how well-painted it is, in terms of attractive appearance and technical skill displayed. Basing is definitely an important component of appearance.

Conversions and special customization of models is usually rewarded as well. IIRC, John Swann did very well (don’t know if he won best army) with a Thousand Sons army which was very well painted and had lighted glowing eyes. So this army would definitely rack up some points there.

I think you’re right that this particular painting technique probably wouldn’t get him top-notch scores. Combined with really nice bases and the lighting, I’m sure it would do well, but airbrushing a chrome scheme doesn’t quite cut the mustard in terms of great paint work.
