Can someone please either:

Beg Phil Kelly to write the upcoming SM Codex for 5th ed.

or

Invent a time machine and make him do it, just in case he hasn't already?

Thanks!

Among other things ...

Guy who wrote Codex: Tyranids, Codex: Eldar, Codex: Orks. Maybe other ones, but the xenos books that stomp across the tournament scene are all his babies.

Yeah have him write the SM Codex so that they can have that one, completely broken unit that everyone takes.

Good plan.

I'm guessing you'd rather have Jervis write it then, and have all units suck equally, and not have it really matter what you took, because it won't be much fun either way?

Phil is the man.

He has been our only hope for a long time.

I can only hope Jervis gets booted, or goes to 'specialist' games (that's squat land for GW devs) and PK takes over.

He's been such a fun humor man for so long I can only hope he can keep it up for another decade without cracking like Jervis and Gav (and 5 other idiots) did.

You mean an actually balanced codex with few ambiguities? Yes, I would. Tell me, can Stormboyz fleet? How about Nobz or Warbosses on bikes? How about Deff koptas? And for balance: What are the odds of killing a Holo-Falcon with a single Lascannon shot? How many Carnifex's can you fit into a 1500 point list? I find it immensely amusing that these travesties are written off and PK is adored in spite of them.

That being said, I think he can write a good codex, he just needs playtesting to keep him in check.

GW won't pay for playtesting, Ozy.

If you haven't figured out the company is in the tank yet, and hasn't had proper playtesting of any sort for several years now, can I come smoke what your smoking?

I just need the spatial coordinates for whatever planet you're on, so I can beam myself up too.

Phil's the only one who seems to be able to develop the right creative vision and keep lists competitive while adhering to the general streamlining that's GW's current fad.

He hasn't been perfect, although at least one of his mistakes (Shock Troops) may have been forced upon him. And the Ork codex just needed a good proofreader. If you've never written professionally, it's pretty hard to proof your own work. You overlook mistakes and ambiguities because you know your meaning regardless of whether the copy says it clearly. Problems in the Ork codex are more of a failure of GW's editorial processes than a failure of creative vision.

And really, it's not like the CSM codex -- the paragon of meh -- is ambiguity-free. But it is free of an interesting or fresh creative vision, IMO.

Yeah I wonder too. Phil Kelly is meh. If Jervis actually wrote everything it wouldn't be bad at all. It'd be like the third edition rulebook's army list which are pretty fun if played against each other.

Oh and that single lascannon shot kills a holo-falcon 1 out of 3 shots.

Yikes!

That's all I have to hear, er, read...

We do NOT want the return of 3rd Edition.

Well, I know I don't want that...

It actually made me drop 40K until, well, 4th edition.

What's wrong with the army lists in the 3rd ed. rulebook? Try a few games with them sometime and you'll see they were pretty well balanced with one another.

He didn't say 3rd edition, he said 3rd edition codexes. Big difference. EDIT: Apparently I need reading comp too. I missed that he said the lists in the Army Book... Been a long time since I played with those.

Still, I like Phil, I saw him at LA GD (last year?) and he impressed me as someone who loves the game and wants to do right by it. I just don't get the ooohing and aaahing over his books which I don't feel have been that great. Steadily better, I'll admit, but not great.

Stelek: Once again, reading comprehension is your friend. I said that PK's work needs to be playtested. Time to get you some glasses or make the font bigger on your screen or something.

Sounds like a good plan to me!

Probably too late for it to actually happen, but, well...
