*EDIT*

This is weird. I've had hundreds of thread views but very few comments, critiques or criticisms. Is the army really that samey? Nobody have any pointers or ideas they want to share? I'd really appreciate your feedback. And yes, I'll try to improve the lighting in and future photographs.

/*EDIT*

So I thought it'd be a good idea to create myself a thread for my burgeoning Greenskin horde, rather than chucking pictures in different places. I already have about 1200pts painted, but recently acquired a battleforce - and took the opportunity to make a new version of Mekboss Dragnatz on a bike with a power klaw (it's what all the cool kids are doing).

So, for starters, Mekboss Dragnatz on his new, predominantly plastic, wheels. Notice the Forcefield generator on the back of the bike, a continued theme from the model on foot. In game terms it counts as a cybork body.

I'll update the thread when I add something new, which should be soon as I have the rest of the battleforce to paint, but here are a few shots of the rest of the army:

looks real good, man. I like the custom bike and dragnatz' backpack. So what colors are you using for those? It seems you prime with green, which is something they told me not to do at my hobby shop but it seems to be working for you.

I'm getting my first batch of 700 points or so in the mail within the next few weeks, and I can't decide what style of skin color to go with. There's a very tempting "macaw green" at my campus art store, but it might end up too vivid (if that's possible)

My Ork skin happens in about five stages, and uses three basic citadel colours: Chaos Black, Goblin Green and Bleached bone. From a black undercoat I paint all of the skin, including recesses, in a 50/50 mix of Black and Green. For the next stage I paint most of it pure Goblin Green, leaving recesses dark: then I use a wash of 50/50 green/black to soften the edges between the colours, do a second coat of pure goblin green on slightly less of the flesh, then do a gentle highlight of 50/50 Goblin Green/Bleached Bone on the edged of the raised areas. Works pretty well for me, and is simple enough that I don't forget what I should be doing between squads!

How do you paint those great checker pattern? I can never seem to get the lines straight.

Somehow it looks better in the photos than it does in reality. I start with a grid of Shadow Grey squares, fill in the white ones, then paint them Space Wolves Grey, and finally Skull White. Not perfect, but looks ok on the table!

New shinies! Bikes from the battleforce!

It's all happening. Just wait till you see what I'm using instead of an attack squig, you'll love it.

So I definitely wanted to give my biker Boss an attack squig, but until recently couldn't decide how to model it. A basic squig model on foot would look wrong, as it'd get left behind. I was thinking of perhaps attaching one to a chain or something, but then I had a minor brainwave... and hit my bitz box.

Presto! My bodged "Attack Squig".

Wow, that's truly nice work. I like the rather subdued colour scheme you've got going. The grot bike is cute.

Very nice paint jobs, and as for the "attack grot", freeking A!

That's why I love orks, you can do crazy/stupid/awesome conversions for your army, and they fit in! I've got a Tankbusta with a Tau Seeker Missle sitting on hit shoulder, a trigger in his left hand, and a spare missle in his other hand, you wouldn't see a Marine or Eldar doing that. That does make for an interesting thought... a Black Templar Master or whatever the they're called with a Neophyte riding a tricycle?

Heh, thanks guys. For an amalgamation of spare parts I'm really pleased with how he's turned out.

I was toying with the idea of giving him a slugga, in the place where the Dakkaguns go on a regular bike, but quite like the whole 'battering ram' vibe he has right now.

I'm still struggling to find the time to paint the 22 Boyz I have on my painting table, but I'll update again when I finally do and the army starts to resemble a functioning force a bit more!

I love it all. Your painting is clean and simple, which goes a long way when tying together hoards of models. And the bikes! First off, major cred for a warboss bike with proper ape hangers. Don't see it too often, and in my opinion it just fits the image of a proper Ork Biker Boss (though I must admit I'm completely biased).

And the attack squig is entirely too cool for school. I totally dig the concept and the execution is great! Can we get some different angles on him? I'm dangerously close to looting the idea and doing something along the same lines, just too darn cool.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

The apehangers could probably have been sturdier... they're only guitar wire! I'm a bit limited in terms of building materials.

The Grot Bike idea just came to me, and is one of those things that could probably be done a lot better with more time and effort - I assembled him in about half an hour from the first things I found in my bitz box!

Read your batrep and was just about to ask for pics of your boys ...

Really dig your skintone and subdued scheme, very appealing. Nice neat style too, as noted. The attak grot is EXCELLENT and I'm a big fan of your warbosses, on bike or otherwise.

Great attention to detail and I love the way the skull looks on the warbosses bike. Wish I could get my skintones down that good. I know how ya feel as far as the hundreds of views and a minimal amount of comments makes ya feel abit insecure about your work doesn't it. But stay the course and keep up the awesome work! Look forward to seeing more!

Some new snippets. I got hold of two more Meganobz last week. I appreciate they may not be the best in-game unit ever, but I've always loved the models. I even did some minor conversion work on one of them, for a bit more dynamism. Also, a picture of the masses of greenskins I'm currently working on!

Well, after months of doing naff all miniatures-wise (apologies, I spent three months touring the US of A - it kept me a little busy!) I finished my Ork Boyz. Just the Trukk to go and my battleforce is done - hopefully just in time for the second wave of Orks. I apologise for the poor lighting, will take some better shots soon.

wow, its all looking good, i like the attack squig idea, but it is just a grot on a small bike, not that theres anything wrong with that obviously, but maybe it should actually have a squig on the back, like its being chauffered around the battlefield

That's one nicely painted army. Your Warbikerboss is a nice and simple conversion.
When I think about it, it would be nice, if I also had the same Boss on bike and on foot, the question is, where can I get another "Army of Darkness"-Ash action figure to steal the hand from

The One thing I don't like about your army are the goblin green bases. It looks dumb, even on a grass green field.

The Goblin Green edging is more tradition (or force of habit) than anything, to be honest. If I could be bothered I'd go back and re-edge all the bases...
