man... thats a lot of contemplation.
i look forward to your thoughts bigdaddio.

im enjoying everything ive seen so far especially the art.

i will admit though that i've only given the book a cursory glance.

my immediate thoughts were that an index would have been helpful and i found it odd to see the missions before learning how to play the game but that was it.

i want to print it for a full read.
doing it on the phone is a little rough on comprehension =P

THIS ISN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM...

Ahem...

But seriously, don't expect the final rule book to look like this/have this ordering. There'll be a more logical ordering, and there will be a lot of examples and demo images to help guide people through it (as well as a full card breakdown and weapon stat line stuff).

The super special edition will be even better, currently being billed at around 400 pages, with fluff, rules and painting for everything currently in the game (if all goes to plan).

The stripped down version in the starter set will still be comprehensive rules wise, but some things will have to drop if only to get it in the box

Love the art, card design is great, rules seem very streamlined. The action card deck was wjat i most disliked, however it makes sense and works well with the characters limits. Only a couple small things seem missing. However, I still like most of what I see and will reserve all judgement, positive comments, and critiques until I get a few games in.

Glad the outlaw faction cards were posted. Can't wait to see the rest of the missing characters. The combination of factions makes them my #1 go to faction, followed by lawmen.

I hope we see a full range card set for sale soon. Love that the minis can be used to play 1st or 2nd edition, as they are different enough to make the games unique.

Wise words, play some games, try things and and see.

Secret behind the scenes stuff, I wasn't convinced by the action cards at first, and went back and forth with Stu on it. However, once we got the Adventure deck working alongside it, it really clicked with me. Now we have a way of playing that is very fast and loose, with players trusting to the fates to see what the card flips bring (the gambling man method), but more cautious players who like control (like me!) can mitigate luck by spending their adventure cards wisely. Of course, this comes at a cost, as it means you won't be scoring as many minor scenario points.

This very much became the core of the game, the idea of everything being controllable to an extent, but always at a cost (be it fortune, adventure, action or in raw bodies).

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you have thrashed out a few games.

I'd have your sculptor have a look at the feet of that 'River' look a like, they look really bad (while the rest of the sculpting looks good)

Amazing sculpts... the origional renders got me to pledge on the first kickstarer, buy "all in" to the game, and play the game. The wayward eight are part of what makes the game great!

Definitely an auto buy

Look at her face, too. She doesn't look altogether human. I'd assume she's showing a partial beast-form type of thing.

Assuming that's the case, she looks rad. The whole crew does!

I'm definitely impressed.

Are you talking the crouching Avatar- esque looking girl? I don't think she's human (or completely human) in the first place...

All 8 weren't done in plastic, were they? I know I have at least 3 of them. I'm going to have to go check now...

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Marcus's pose is a huge improvement IMO and I love Jake's hat addition. Hick's facial expression is also great!

Really not a fan of Zarelda Kincade/Zoe's weird lady bodybuilder cheesecake look. She was the most no-nonsense character on the show and the look just doesnt fit. As noted, River's feet look kind of monkey-ish too.

I'd like to see a Shepherd Book too. He always gets the short end of the stick on homage figures.

Taking back my objection to River's feet, I just saw she has the Cerulean tag on her card, so she isnt fully human!

I prefer the older sculpts for the WW8 tbh, they look more menacing and have a in the heat of battle look about them with their action poses. I think something looks a little off with the leg proportions of some of the new ones in that render to...

Some here... mostly. I do like the new Mal, Simon and Jayne sculpts. The rest... not so much. Zoe looks weird, as does Wash. Inara and Kaylee look pretty generic. And what the <bleep> is River meant to represent? That is not "beastly", it's just fugly: the face... THE FEET!

I'll get them anyway, don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan of "Firefly", and have a big WWX collection. The prospect of a not-Book also has me all excited. The Mk.II crew is kind of a let-down though.

Flowing River is now an alien. There is a Book homage in the Deadly Seven, who (I think) will come with the new Wayward 8 in the second edition starter box due out this fall.

Excellent news, if true.

But fear for the puns with numbers: "The Wayward Eight fighting the Deadly Seven - watch your six! High fives to the winner. Four your next game, just make it a three-way with the newest sinister Union agents: two by two, their hats are blue! Now once more with feeling!"

Or somthing like that...

so i started a separate thread, https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/726342.page#9377095 on this but thought id ask here...

if i was looking to expand on some of the maxmini WWX houses are there any out there that match the scale and aesthetics of the maxmini ones?
i know wild west is kind of generic so when i say match i mean in the way that they're made and look.
sometimes two different manufacturers of the same thing can look apples and oranges if that makes sense.

I think you mean the stuff from Micro Art Studio, right? (http://shop.microartstudio.com/wwx-western-hotel-p-1007.html)

Lathan over at Burned In Designs has some stuff that looks good alongside the "official" ones, and TT Combat also has some nice western MDF terrain that sizes up well alongside the rest. The pieces from 4Ground are too small, I know, but they're pretty nice quality-wise.

That burn in design rock ridge stuff is great.
You said its good on size pug, is that first hand knowledge?

I picked up a train at Christmas and that station is awful tempting.

It is indeed first hand knowledge, sir. The doorways and windows skew a little large, actually, if you're trying to consider accurate scale, but it's actually for the benefit of gameplay so that models on bases can fit through doorways or draw line of sight through windows.

The stuff I have is actually the first run of the Rock Ridge line, so it looks like Lathan has actually improved them; I definitely recommend it.

So after a few games with different factions I will post my opinion and overview of 2nd edition vs 1st edition.

1st edition positives:
Alternative history fluff with historical characters we know and love!!
wild west timeline and theme
decent but lengthy gameplay
great minis
awesome dice and card system

1st edition negatives:
balance (and constant updating of cards)
loss of physical cards (but they are back!)
game length for a skirmish game
some unnecessary rules
6' x 4' game table requirement for most games

My biggest criticism is that 1st edition wasn't sure if it was a war-game, skirmish game, or something in between. Players had to make rules at times regarding uses of vehicles or legendary characters due to balance in small games vs large games.

2nd edition positives:
balance!
fast, simple, and tactical gameplay
majority of the same game we know and love
same great minis!
cards and dice system like we had before
ease of rules
3' x 3' area needed (makes transporting a mat and terrain much easier)
evolving from a wild west game into a global themed game in the wild west timeline

2nd edition negatives:
losing some of the 'alternative history' theme (name changes to major/important characters)

Overall, 2nd edition is awesome! It's almost as if WWX figured out what kind of game it should be. You can now build several lists and play several games during a single game night. The smaller gameplay area is great too, and helps lead to the shorter games, easier setups and quicker cleanup. I was not a fan of the action deck, but it really plays well and makes you think before activating just any character.

I think it's great that the game is becoming world-based instead of us-based. I just hope the 'alternate history' theme continues (really its just adding period names from historical characters... maybe with similar traits but that's about it). I can think of several famous historical European, Russian, Asian, and central American persons whose names would be great to add to our alternative history game in the 19th century. Cowboys (outlaws, lawmen, etc) vs ninjas? Sovereign Nations vs the royal army? European inventors vs the union? Golden Army vs aliens? The game has endless limits now that the fluff is evolving. Battles can be wages worldwide based on the RJ inventions (large rj powered boats for continental travel?)

My only criticism is the renaming of certain important historical characters in wwx (general Grant, George Custer, Sitting Bull... well the renaming of pretty much all of the historical Indian characters). All historical lawmen and outlaws appear to remain history based (well, alternate history anyway!). In my opinion the historical characters help make the game what it is, along with the western time period theme (name of the game after all). Remember, George Custer isn't the Custer of our past, he is the present time Custer in an alternate world filled with destructive RJ... it means he didn't do the same things he did in our world anyway.

Love the game (both 1st and 2nd edition), how involved warcradle is with the community, and how the storyline is evolving. The community has exploded again with involvement, positivity, and excitement, which has been great! I will definitely keep all my 1st edition cards though, so I can get a game in occasionally for old times sake, but look forward to the release of 2nd edition with final production cards so I can play the hell out of them!! I was a fan before and will still purchase everything warcradle makes for this great game! I recommend the game, and joining the wwx community (much friendlier than most other game communities).

That's my two cents anyway, take it for what it's worth
