i think that ther more points per battle the more dangerous imperial guardsmen become.

Guard- 2500pts
Dark Angels- 1750pts
Orks- 1750pts
Empire- 2000pts
a good soldier obeys without question, a good officer commands without doubt

some times you just have to straighten your cap and die like a guardsman-anon

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

if you like tanks, I think in 2000 they start to suffer because you can only fit three.

but maxing heavy weapon platoons w/ accompanying infantry platoons is a different story.

Define "more points".

Within a normal 40k context of up to 2000 or even 2500 pts, IG aren't particularly scary.

Within an Apocalypse context of 3000+ pts IG aren't scary either, because the FOC restrictions are removed.

The only time IG would be scary is 3000+ pts with the basic FOC in place. But then the basic FOC is designed for 1500 pts, which is why Apocalypse removes it.

i mostly meant in apocolypse but as a general rule too. just because guardsmen can feild more tanks than any other race, not tomention more variety.

I voted no, my reasoning being primarily the FOC. The only exception is when the points values drop low enough that to take enough troops you're having to sacrifice tanks.

At higher points values, the raw power of all infantry guard goes higher and higher, mostly because any take on all comers list of that size will include dedicated tank hunters, not all of which will have a use against infantry.

Again, this is true north of 2500 points, and less true between 2k and 2500. In apocolypse, IG are no better or worse off than anybody else.

maybe but probably the most power the ig posses is that they can feild so many soldiers sure they might have to roll against very high odds but if your rolling from about 70 or so dice your bound to kill something

Like others have said, I think the FOC limits them from scaling up significantly for regular sized games, and in Apocalypse, the removal of the FOC would probably make their theoretical advantages balance out more against other armies (who will also be operating without an FOC).

This is terrible reasoning. Play a Grot army if you think more dice = more win.

Anyway, I voted no, because the truth is that IG power levels stay about the same almost regardless of points level. The power of Guard lies in their basic squads; things like tanks and RRs are nice, but they're support, not the core. Cheap squads with HWs and specials are what Guard do best, and unlike other armies, they're always able to add more.

So in short, IG don't get better in larger games, but they don't get worse, either. They scale near perfectly.
