The Last Chancer Who Survived

So what's the current rumor for the next few 40K releases?
5th edition then marines? What next? I keep seeing rumors of new imperial guard stuff like vakleryies or new plastic troops but no one seems to know if/when.. And wasn't there stuff being done for dark eldar? I think I remember seeing pics of DE greens from one of GW's events... And what about that next expansion, planetstrike or whatever..?
Anyone have any details or are folks just guessing and pretending they know when they're really just listening to redshirts again?

Yep, not on any schedule that I've been given. Either Rumor, or no one Knows when.
And wasn't there stuff being done for dark eldar?
Probably next year, I haven't heard about their release this year, and don't see any place in the schedule that they could be slid in.
And what about that next expansion, planetstrike or whatever..?
Not on this years schedule, although something else might be coming in fast and hard, causing a lot of destruction as they hit the table. Maybe...pray...
5th edition then marines?
But of course! How could you think it wouldn't be that way? (Yes, rumors of new marines for xmas.)
As usual, the above is my best guess based on talk 'above the redshirt level', but is subject to change based on bad info and my early onset of Alzheimers.

What has been conjectured is this:
40K:
*Codex Daemons in May
*40K5 rulebook in July/August
*40K5 Box Set in September/October
*Space Marines in the Fall
That is all fairly known. After that, the following Codicies have seen some level of rumors for a 2009 release:
Dark Eldar (probable)
Space Wolves
IG
Planetstrike (probable)
I believe we've heard pretty strongly that Planetstrike will find a 2009 summer release. That leaves an earlier spot and a later spot for some activity. Dark Eldar have been strongly rumored for 2009, but not with any concrete release date. Wolves were rumored to be early 2009, and this might make sense from a sales perspective (40K5, Marines, Wolves), but that would mean two Marine books in a row.
We'll see what we'll see. The upcoming Games Day season should enlighten us.

Note that 2009 is mostly conjecture, aside from Planetstrike (which is supposed to bring more IG goodness).
Dark Eldar have been strongly desired by a vocal minority, but have nothing concrete from GW proper. That is, there are no rumors or sneak peeks or anything else to suggest that GW is going to ever revive this army.
Remember, wishful thinking doesn't make it so.

I was just thinking dark eldar cuz I could have sworn I saw some pics of greens around somewhere.. maybe warseer.
My wishful thinking is for a new guard codex. Though I also fear it might be butchered.. but between the Apoc stuff and the other rumors of new stuff (Valk, plastic stormtroopers and/or trenchcoat guys) I'm guessing/hoping it will be next on the list after marines.

Didn't they turn out to be some sculptors test models and not new codex sculpts.
I too have mixed feelings about the possible direction a new Imperial Guard codex could take, I could stand almost everything bar the loss of carapace armour. Dropping the 0-1 restrictions on Ratlings and Veterans would be nice though.

I'd like em to drop ratlings :p just make em regular snipers, not midgets with guns. Same with the mongolian horsemen. I really like the death korps rough riders though.
My main worry would be the loss of doctrines what with the way everything else is getting dumbed down.. but then if they took em out and maybe replaced with different types of platoons... like drop troop platoons or jungle fighter platoons or whatever. I've been kind if hesitant to add much more to my army at the moment, I worry it's gonna all get changed in a few months.. luckly I have a lot of chaos stuff to finish, left over from like November Horray for backlogs!
I think it'd be cool if GW could just have some kind of coming soon page.. where they just talk about the projects they're working on now.. like a blog from the design studio.. don't gotta tell all but just give folks ideas of what's coming next.

As stated those models were determined to be test/practise sculps and not intended for release - though I suppose that could change to not for release at this time.
Having seen a concept plastic Cadian sprue over on warseer I imagine that good few models never make it to full production.
I just cant see DE bringing enough money in for them to bother, not with a major release anyway.
Space Wolves have had less love than the DE in terms of Dexes etc so they are long overdue, so it makes sense that they would be next year. The same could be said for IG as with the recent Ork and not too old Eldar Dex that means that Marines/ IG are next in line.
There are of course a lot of Planet Strike rumours flying around such as plastic Valkiries, Vultures, Thunderhawks and even Thunderbolts?? There are also rumoured plastic IG longcoat type Guard (on the go for a long time mind you) and Storm Troopers.

I love the system they created for Guard and if they lost it that would be a real shame.

Umm, there's been a crap ton of rumors, with many credible rumor mongers weighing in on a likely 2009 release (Brimstone, Dosadi, others). Jervis has been rumored to be saying Dark Eldar were a high priority at some function awhile back. And he has been quoted as saying any army with a full codex now will be supported from now on--they still have a full codex last time I checked.
There's been several credible rumors of a Jes green of a DE warrior (and no not the Juan Diaz scuplts, this was before that).
DE going to direct means nothing. Same happened to Wood Elves and look what happened to them.

Oh that's assured. Doctrines will be gone and everything will be dumbed down. They'll probably even increase the price of things like Plasma Guns and Lascannons, even though we already pay more/the same as Marines when our BS is only 3.
We'll keep certain things like an option for a Mechanised army, and maybe some combination of Drop Troops and Carapace, but restricted troop types, things like CoD and Die Hards, Iron Discipline, yeah, they'll dissapear pretty quickly once the Guard get ' Jervised'.

Well I guess a lot depends on what is meant by "supported". Does it mean they will get a new codex every edition? Or does it mean they will get their very own Apocalypse datasheet?
H.B.M.C. wrote:We'll keep certain things like an option for a Mechanised army, and maybe some combination of Drop Troops and Carapace
I wouldn't bet on it. I fully expect Drop Troops and Carapace to become Stormtrooper-only (to make things simpler of course). I expect all restrictions on Armoured Fist squads to be dropped, thus making it possible to do Mechanised by simply using them for all your Troops choices. Other than that I expect it to be nearly identical to the first 3rd ed IG codex (3.0) with the addition of enginseers and advisors, and *maybe* conscripts and special/heavy weapons platoons (but don't count on it).

I've heard some Space Marine model rumours. Nothing I'd consider to be very reliable, so take them with a grain of salt:
Skimmer transport of some sort.
A new Land Raider of some kind (possibly one of the Forge World Land Raiders, or possibly that Dark Angel one from the Apocalypse datasheet with the heavy flamers and assault cannons).
Plastic early-Mark armour sprue.

No, thanks - SM don't need Raiders, Devilfish, Valks or Falcons - leave that for the T3 crowd!
The Crusader should be a plastic sprue.
Yes, please - I'd buy early marks!

The skimmer transport rumor I've seen is that it will be only for scouts.
Here's hoping that scouts stay troops and that IGget different types of platoons (drop, mechanised, grenadier) when their codex gets, as HBMC so well put it, Jervisized.

Valkaries would be awsome. IG need some mobility. THey could use fast skimmers. The winner at adepticon recieved like3 or 4 valkries. Perhaps that is suggestive of somthing. I don't know why people are asking about marines when maries or sub type marines get thier own codex at least once a year. Marines are not out of date nor do they need a codex. There are other armies like DE and IG that really need it. Necrons, perhaps as well but not so much. NOt to mention the inquisition needs to be done to.

Space Wolves are slated to come out December of 2008. Pihl Kelly anounced Yesterday at Adepticon that Dark Eldar are definitly on the horizon around the end of 2009 or possibly 2010
