Okay, I'll start dehydrating the ocean so we have enough salt to take with this rumor, but I thought I'd share the third party rumor: Space Wolves will be the Christmas 08 release.

"GW Staffer Rumor"

Apparently IG should be after that, but we'll see what comes. I'm still skeptical about two SM codexes back to back

He said it was confirmed, not just a rumor, It might just be because I play space wolves that i believe him but ah well. Having it released at christmas is awesome, they've been using the third ed codex for way too long now

"So when do we get our tank?"
We've already got it, it has been with us the whole time"
"No we don't, its just 10 of us, and a Washing Machine"
"That is the tank...."

I'll believe it when I see it.

It'll be bittersweet, though. I'm already lamenting the inevitable loss of our Extra-Venerable Dreadnoughts.

I don't consider that confirmed just yet. Someone made a sound business case for this decision a few days back at warseer. We'll see. I'd like it to be true, because I'd like new SW models.

It makes since to a point. By that time, the Space Wolves Codex would have seen two CSM codexes before an update. And for an add-on codex, that doesn't work.

I hope they stick to the fluff and remove their drop pods but give them something to compensate. Space Wolves present an opportunity to really show how a Heresy Period army worked.

Space Wolves are my favorite of the loyalist chapters, but two Space Marine releases in a row make baby the Space Emperor cry.

Well i would be very happy if this rumor turned out to be true.

I do have a question though. Jervis made a comment a while ago that the Space Wolves were the good guys because unlike other chapters they care about what happens to the people. Have i missed the fluff that backs this up?

A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

No space wolves in December. Not as a regular codex or release. And I've heard nothing official about a WD list either. Not on the schedule at all up through January. I have no information after that.

There was a bit somewhere about the Space Wolves almost coming to blows with other forces of the Imperium over the treatment of Imperial Soldiers/Citizens after one of the Armageddon wars? Something like after a long, hard fought battle they were going to get mind-wiped/exterminated and the Space Wolves didn't take kindly to that?

Am I remembering it right?

Also, I think that the ULTRAMARINES might also treat "regular" Imperials OK too, especially over in Ultramar... Maybe?

It's in a fluff piece from a long time ago.

The SW were fighting against Chaos.

They won, with help from guard.

I believe the guard were all killed by the inquisition to stop the taint of chaos from spreading.

Hope that helps.

Ah, new Space Wolves would rock! They're easily the coolest of the many Space Marines.

I predict Space Wolves will use exactly the same list as codex space marines except instead of fixed 5 or 10 man squads they will have variable 5-10 man squads (just like the spiky space marines). This is because they are Space Wolves and don't follow the rules! However they'll only be able to take a heavy weapon if they take the full 10. This is because they are space marines (hurr!).

Sadly, you're probably right.

Looks like good ol' Roboute Guilliman was right, and every marine (good, spiky or indifferent) will soon be following his Codex!

I think that Space Woofs will end up to be a lot more Codex than they are today. Varible size squads are a Heretical mark of Chaos! Grey Hunters and Blood Claws are likely to get some kind of Combat Squads treatment, while Long Fangs stay at a fixed 5 models.

Here are my predictions, mark my words:

Venerable Dread to become like everybody elses and become an Elite Choice.

Loose the "One HQ per 750" rule.

Wolfen will be added as an Elite choice and get fleet and furious charge (but no Veteran Upgrade).

Blood Claws will have a high minimum unit size, loose the +2 attacks, but get furious charge.

Grey Hunters have stay pretty much the same.

True Grit is lost but all Marines get BP, CCW, Bolter like chaos gets.

Counter Attack is lost (pointless in 5th)

No Drop Pod option. (But that is iffy)

Leman Russ Exterminators get a plastic model (and are returned to the Guard Codex) (Dream)

Rhinos are cheap.

Most of the character of the list will be in the HQ choices.

Wolf Guard are changed to become unit upgrade leaders, an elite choice (similar to CCSM chosen) and Terminators.

Terminators will be cheaper and variable squad size comparable to the Chaos Version.

Unlike Blood Angels who fight the curse, Space Wolves become wiser with age, so you will see a lot of furious charge on "younger" units but none on the more elite ones.

Long Fangs can upgrade squad size.

Space Wolves Scouts remain pretty much the same except they will have Scouts, so in fifth they can still come in on the opposing table edge or like other scouts. Will have wolf guard upgrade leader in power armor.

Write this down, it less then 50% of this happens, I will post a picture of a pie hitting my face.

makes perfect sense for SW to be the next chapter-specific marine codex, released some time after the new generic marine codex, but - December? Nah, GW will be trying to sell a zillion of the new 40k boxed set and generic new marine models, not a good time to release SW as well

It is a glaring omission that GW didn't address the SW as the only remaining "bolt-on" Codex. The fact that they didn't do so, leads one to imagine that they probably do have some nefarious plan here.

Granted that Guard makes more sense, but with GW, who knows?!?

Counter attack in the new edition isnt worthless; when you pile in at the start of combat and you have counterattack then you get the charge bonus.

And December is wrong as thats hobby month (a chance for GW to release hobby tools or Apocalypse like packs for stocking fillers)

I reckon since the space wolves have already broken off from the normal vanilla marines in alot of the cases, they might get a non supplementary codex with all unit choices in their codex (not see the space marines codex for this entry stuff). It would be cool if the wolf guard leaders were upgrades like they are in 13th Company

It's not just iffy; it's crazy-talk. If ANYONE should have drop pods, its the Space Wolves.

Okay, since no-one else has given the right answer, I'll do it:

The Space Wolves fought alongside the Grey Knights and the people of Armageddon in the First Armageddon War against Angron's daemonic legion. After the big punch-up, the Inquisition rounded up the entire population of Armageddon, put them into work-camps, and worked them to death, because they couldn't allow people to know about daemons. The planet was subsequently repopulated. The Great Wolf at the time was REALLY pissed about this. Because he was really pissed, the Space Wolves now have a reputation as Good Guys. That's all it takes in the Imperium, throwing a temper tantrum.

While this should go into the fluff section, I will post it here. Sorry if it upsets anyone...

I can still remember when a box of 30 Space Marines was $30.00. Now THAT'S old school! In fact, I started playing in the Rogue Trader days...yes, I am that old. Played Warhammer Fantasy for years before Rogue Trader even came out...

6,800 Pts. Ultramarines, 1,500 Pts. Deathwatch, 1,000 Pts. Black Templars, 1,000 Pts. Blood Ravens, 1,000 Pts. Emperors Children, 2,000 Pts. Word Bearers, 3,500 Pts. Oops...hit the wrong button...

Anyway, the Space Wolves are not the only "good guys" for SM. The Ultramarines also care about the average person. It is in the Index fluff, as well as in the Ultramarines books.

I would think that more SM should be noble, but that may not be the case.
